i dont kno

Can someone please tell me how to make a video baby monitor? The only problem is i dont have any fancy gadgets, like an iphone or ipad or ianything! lol.
i have an extra laptop and i have an old webcam. could this work to make a video baby monitor??
i want to be able to connect to it somehow from my laptop that iam currently using, like skyp or something??
Iam very bad with computers lol
I understand what your saying and thats why i dont want to spend any money on this. But if i can figure out a way to do it with stuff i have laying around i would like to see him, and not have to sneak into his room to see him. ( because yes i will be going in to look at him, i have from day one and i dont think that will stop for quiet awhile)

Answer
I can't help you with any of the technical stuff, but I wanted to say that video baby monitors are quite useless. Its one of those baby items that is totally unnecessary.

What's important is that you *hear* your baby wake up and cry for you. Its not important to *see* your baby - after all, you will be very, VERY tired yourself. Its not like you'll be up all night watching your baby sleep.

do i need a router or a modem?

Msp

wireless or wired? i'm confused! ok-right now, i have wireless internet,
from comcast. the modem or router thing, i rent from them at $7 bucks,
is in my living room, and my pc is in my room, hooked up to my hdtv.
how, ever-i'm tired of paying comcast the extra $7 dollars a month!
so, i'm thinking about buying the "Motorola SB6141 DOCSIS modem".

i want to have a WIRED internet connection, and be able to share
that "wired connection" to my old '2006' pc, apple tv, wireless printer,
and an iphone 5. BTW..the pc will be DEAD soon, until, i can afford
another one! so, i'll only have the apple tv, printer and iphone, to connect.

do i need a wireless or wired modem, or wireless/wired router?
i appreciate your help. thanks.

Answer
Here is how it works,

A router connects two separate networks and manage the traffic between them.

A wireless router enables you to provide wireless (WiFi) Internet access to all of your WiFi enabled devices such as laptops, game consoles, cell phones and tablets, Streaming devices such as Roku boxes and Internet enabled TV and sound devices, etc.

In most home network applications the router connects your local group of computers and devices known as the LAN with the Internet, commonly called the WAN or Wide Area Network.

Two types of Internet devices are commonly sold.

1. Combination modem / routers, often called gateways.

2. Stand alone routers which can be connected to a stand alone modem.

DSL and Cable modems use different technology, for this reason you can't use a cable gateway (DOCSIS) with DSL or use a DSL gateway (ADSL2+) with a cable Internet connection.

A highly rated DOCSIS 3.0 cable gateway is the Motorola SBG6580. It is currently about $120 at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040IUI46/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=excharge-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0040IUI46

You could also buy a standalone cable modem and connect it to a separate wireless router.

If you buy an older DOCSIS 2.0 model and you are paying for a speed tier over 20 Mbps. then you will probably not see the throughput that you should.

Be sure to get a newer compatible DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem such as the Motorola SB6120. It supports bonded channels and will increase your cable Internet performance.

As far as routers go,

A fast wireless router does not make your Internet faster.

Your WAN speed is determined by your ISP and is measured in Mbps (Millions of bits per second).

For example if you pay for a 10 Mbps Internet connection, you will get 10 Mbps.

No router or modem will change your 10 Mbps Internet speed.

This Internet connection bandwidth is shared by your entire LAN via your router.

If you have a 10 Mbps plan and one user is utilizing 5 Mbps of the bandwidth to stream a HD Netflix movie that only leaves 5 Mbps for all of the rest of the users on the LAN.

Fast routers and network devices are designed to stream large files on your LAN quickly. The high speed routers permit fast transfer of files between devices connected to your LAN, however WAN speed is still limited by your ISP.

WIRELESS RANGE:

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc. All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range.

Many wireless connections also experience interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones which interfere with the 2.4 GHz band.

Dual band routers have multiple wireless radios enabling broadcast on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously.

Using the 5 GHz band cuts down on interference from cordless phones and microwave ovens..

Not all devices can use the 5 GHz frequency. Many laptops and other devices only operate at 2.4 GHz. Thus the need for dual band routers.

Just because a particular wireless router works good at one location does not guarantee that it will have similar performance in a different location due to variance in the factors listed above.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

Wireless routers are fairly inexpensive. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=wireless%20router&url=search-alias%3Daps&sprefix=wireless%20ro%2Caps%2C490&tag=excharge-20

You don't have to buy your modem, router or gateway from your ISP, you can get one from a local retailer such as BestBuy or Fry's or online from places like Amazon.

As far as the brand goes, the brand is not as important as the model. Some manufacturers release a good model but the next is crap. I would look at the Amazon reviews of models that interest you. Even if you don't buy from Amazon the reviews will tell you a lot about which models to avoid. Look for at least 20 or more reviews with at least a 4 star rating. Read a few and see if they sound like the particular model will work for your application.

Most cable Internet providers use the cable modem's MAC address to activate the modem.

Every device that has a network interface has a unique MAC (Media Access Control) address. This is usually expressed in hexadecimal such as 10:25:A4:59:EF:1C

You'll have to call your cable provider with the MAC of the new modem so they can activate it on your account. The MAC address is usually printed on a sticker attached to the modem.

Good Luck...

How much does a baby Red Eared Slider Turtle eat?

best baby monitor guide on best sellers the new york times best sellers children s books ...
best baby monitor guide image

Desiree

My son was given a baby turtle 2 weeks ago by a friend, i have never had to take care of a turtle before. I have only seen Donatello eat 3 times since we got him. He runs around and swims all day so he is not acting like he is depressed or sick. Just wondering how often he is suppose to eat.

Answer
Red eared sliders are very common turtles and do make great pets!

Your turtle will always be begging for food. Red-Eared sliders have a voracious appetite. This will depend a bit on your individual turtle. A good rule of thumb is to feed as much as your turtle will consume in 15 minutes. If you feed in a separate container, it is easier to monitor how much and how fast your turtle eats. It is important to offer a variety of foods at the same time -- don't just give your turtle its favorite items.

As an alternative guideline, another common "rule of thumb" is to give meals that are roughly the same size (in total volume) as the turtle's head and neck. Still, you'll need to monitor your turtle's body condition and adjust if necessary.

Keep in mind, that if you are feeding strictly by these rules, feeding every day might be too much, and every two or three days might be too little. You will likely need to adjust the amount you give your turtle. The best guide is to monitor your turtle's weight and condition, and with a little experience you will get to know better how much your turtle can eat and stay in good condition. You also do not want to let juvenile turtles grow too quickly. If a growing turtle gets too fat or grows too quickly it can cause bone and joint problems

To ensure proper nutrition, strong growth and a healthy long-lived turtle, feed a varied diet to both adults and juveniles. Just remember that adults eat less animal protein and more vegetable matter. Juveniles must be fed every day; adults can be fed once every two to three days. Do not feed more than they can eat; the excess food will go to waste and foul the water. Feed a combination of the following foods:

Commercial diets (No more than 25% of total diet)
Trout Chow, commercial floating fish, reptile or turtle food (pellets, sticks or tablets). The pellets and sticks have the advantage of being formulated specifically for reptiles and don't decompose in the water as fast as other foods.

Animal Protein (No more than 25% of total diet)
Live feeder fish--do not feed defrosted frozen fish; they are deficient in thiamin and excess consumption will cause a thiamin deficiency in your turtle. Earthworms--buy them from a reptile or aquarium store; do not feed the ones from your yard as they may contain bacteria, parasites and pesticides against which your turtle has no immunity. Finely chopped raw lean beef, beef heart and cooked chicken are okay for treats, but are not appropriate as a major part of a balanced diet for whole prey eaters. High quality dog kibble can be offered occasionally as treats, too; like muscle meat, dog and cat foods are not appropriate when used as a significant portion of a turtle's diet.

Plant Matter (50% or more of total diet)
Offer leaves of dark leafy greens such as collard, mustard and dandelion greens. Offer shredded carrots (and carrot tops), squash and green beans. Fruit can be offered raw; shred hard fruits like apples and melons, chopping soft fruits such as berries. To help keep their beak in trim, let them gnaw on pieces of cantaloupe with the (well washed) rind still attached.

Vitamin Supplements should be added twice a week. Use a good reptile or turtle multivitamin. Turtles must also be supplied with additional calcium; they often enjoy taking bites out of calcium blocks and gnawing on cuttlebone, so always have some available to them.

How does the doc turn the baby if in breech position ?

Jenns

I was just wondering - some one mentioned if the baby is breech the doctors can 'try' physically moving or reposition the baby into the correct birthing position. I was also told this is painful. How is this done.

Answer
If the baby is breech, your doctor may suggest version. This is an attempt to turn the baby head down. It can improve your chance of having a vaginal birth.

To turn the baby, the doctor places his or her hands at certain points on your abdomen, then pushes or lifts. This helps the baby move. It is as if the baby rolls forward in slow motion. If this does not work, the doctor may try to get the baby to roll backward. In some cases, the doctor may have a second person help turn the baby.

Most often, version is not tried until you are at least 36 weeks pregnant. If it is done before then, the baby may still change position.

Your doctor will assess your health and the state of your pregnancy to see if version is an option for you. Certain conditions may increase the risk of version or decrease the chance of its success. If you or your baby has any of these conditions, your doctor may not recommend version.

Before your doctor tries to turn the baby, an ultrasound exam will be done. This exam shows:

How the baby is positioned
Where the placenta is positioned
How much amniotic fluid is present
Ultrasound also may be used to help guide the turning.
The baby's heart rate is checked with fetal monitoring before and after version. If any problems arise with you or the baby, version will be stopped right away.

Sometimes, a drug is given to you first to relax the uterus. This may make it easier to turn the baby.

How can I get faster internet?

Eric

Please, no smartaleck answers please! I'm willing to spend money.

Okay, so to start off with, I have horrible internet. It might be average compared to standards, but my friends literally have internet that is 100x faster than mine. No joke, I'll show the specs later.

Now, I know a bit about internet. There's 802.11a/b/g/n/ac. I'm pretty sure 802.11ac just came out and most people have 802.11n. However, after some simple investigation, I discovered that I was still on 802.11a, and of course then had WEP encryption. WEP is easily hackable, and 802.11a, as I understand it, has a very bad range. It gets interference from nearly EVERYTHING (microwaves, baby monitors, etc.)

As everyone knows, 802.11a has a LIMIT of 54mbps. However, I usually get around 0.7 mbps, at best. I sure would love to see that 1080p icon at least once in my life. However, at my friend's house, I downloaded a 50MB app for my iPod, and I saw that it installed within seconds. After the initial shock, I ran a quick speed test and it said that I was getting 33mbps down and 19mbps up! At my school, speeds are even higher with 92mbps down and 47mbps up (but of course they use ethernet so that doesn't mean anything)! At my house, I get around 0.65mbps down and 0.28mbps up, usually. As you can see, this is literally over 20X slower than other areas I have ran a speedtest.

Therefore, how can I get either 1) faster 802.11a or 2) what type of router should I get (either 802.11n or 802.11ac) as a replacement?
I have the $29.95/mo plan from AT&T.

Answer
Stick with 802.11n for now. To get faster internet talk to your ISP, or several ISPs if you have a choice, to see what speeds they have on offer. Start by finding out what ISP your friend uses. Also, ISPs often will provide a good router for free or nearly free, so check out that aspect before shelling out your own $$ for one.

How can I strengthen my wifi signal?

baby monitor ping on Iceprison Wraith
baby monitor ping image

Matthew

I have my modem on one end of my house, and my game system on the other. I still get a signal, though it is rather weak. I cannot move my modem due to the placement of the computer. I know that there are devices that I could purchase that could strengthen my signal, I'm just not entirely too sure which one would be best. If I could get some recommendations on what I should do, that would be great.

Answer
For gaming you would be much better off with a Ethernet connection.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc. All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range.

By nature, interference in wireless systems causes problems with smooth, consistent speeds.

Excessive latency (ping) can cause your online games to lag. Your ping may be 30 ms and wireless interference could cause it to spike to 200 ms or more.

The best solution would be to use a wired (Ethernet) connection between your gaming device and the router. You can run Ethernet cables up to 100 meters.

Pre-manufactured Ethernet cables are sold in common lengths such as 10, 25, 50, 100 feet.

A quality 50' Ethernet patch cable is less than $10 at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001W26TIW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=excharge-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001W26TIW

If it is not feasible to run cables you have other options such as powerline network adapters You plug one in by the router and one in the room where you need access and connect them to the devices with standard Ethernet patch cables. http://isp1.us/reviews/netgear-xavb2101-powerline-adapter/

The network signals are transmitted over your existing home electrical wiring which will not be affected by wireless interference.

However, if you absolutely need the wireless mobility there are various other ways to extend a Internet connection to areas with a weak wireless signal.

Devices such as wireless extenders that can expand your wireless range if need be. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YAYM06/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=excharge-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004YAYM06

The wireless range extender receives weak wireless signals and repeats them to extend the signal range to greater distances. Some models include 4 Ethernet ports in addition to the wireless radio.

Good Luck...

What wireless router should I get ?

Zachary

I Want great range so i can be outside and down the steeet and speeds for gaming and streaming . What router should I get. ?

Answer
A couple of points,

For serious gaming or video streaming you really shouldn't be using a wireless connection. Your best bet is a direct Ethernet connection. Ethernet is unaffected by wireless interference and will give you a rock solid, stable network connection.

Let me explain,

Wireless connections are not good for systems used for online gaming. Wireless signals are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range. As wireless connection quality varies the connection speeds are renegotiated. The WLAN connection may start at 150 Mbps and end up at less than 10 Mbps or drop entirely.

By nature, interference in wireless systems causes problems with smooth, consistent speeds. Your latency (ping) may be 30 ms and wireless interference could cause it to spike to 200 ms or more.

Latency is the delay (ping time) in milliseconds that it takes the signal to travel to the server and back. The lower the number the better, but you'll definitely want a ping time of under 120 ms or you'll have major problems with online gaming. Ideally you want less than 80 ms ping to the gaming server.

Remember, A fast wireless router or Ethernet connection does not make your Internet faster.

A router connects two separate networks and manages the traffic between them.

The router connects your local group of computers and devices known as the LAN with the Internet, commonly called the WAN or Wide Area Network.

WAN (Internet) speed is determined by your ISP and is measured in Mbps.

For example, If you pay for a 3 Mbps Internet connection, you will get 3 Mbps.

No router or Ethernet connection will change your 3 Mbps Internet speed. This connection bandwidth is shared by your entire LAN via your router.

If you have a 3 Mbps Internet plan and one user is utilizing 2.5 Mbps of the bandwidth to stream a Netflix movie that only leaves 0.5 Mbps for all of the rest of the users on the LAN.

Fast wireless routers and connections are designed to stream large files on your LAN quickly. The high speed routers permit fast transfer of files between devices connected to your LAN, however WAN speed is still limited by your ISP. The only way to Improve your Internet speed is to upgrade your plan or switch to a faster ISP.

That being said,

Wireless connections are convenient especially for mobile devices such as cell phones, iPods, tablets, laptops, etc., so most people include a wireless router in their home network.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors as I described above. 2.4 GHz WiFi connections also experience interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones which interfere with the 2.4 GHz band.

Wireless routers are fairly inexpensive. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=wireless%20router&url=search-alias%3Daps&sprefix=wireless%20ro%2Caps%2C490&tag=excharge-20

I run a ISP review site and blog, a couple of popular high power routers that my visitors have recommended are,

ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006QB1RPY/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B006QB1RPY&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

The Amped Line which includes Wireless routers, wireless extenders, and wireless access points. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-brandtextbin=Amped%20Wireless&linkCode=ur2&node=172282&tag=excharge-20

One last warning, Just because a particular wireless router model works good at one location does not guarantee that it will have similar performance in a different location due to variances in the factors listed above.

When should I start having my daughter sleeping in her room?

best baby monitor with room temperature on ... temperature sensor and alerts you automatically if the temperature

Lorelei's

My daughter is 15 weeks old. She sleeps in a Co-Sleeper in our room. The entire upstairs is our room and her room is downstairs. She is sleeping through the night and has been for awhile. When do you think I should have her start sleeping in her room vs. the co-sleeper in ours?

Answer
If your daughter is already sleeping through the night, then you can have her sleep in her room. If her room is far away from yours and you've got good sound proof walls, then put a monitor in her room. If her room is close to yours or your living area and the walls are not quite as sound proof, I recommend you do without a monitor. One thing I found out with the monitor was, babies make noises when they sleep... some more than others... but they're sleeping. I was a nervous wreck while I had the monitor on because I could hear every little noise my son made (these machines are incredible!). When I turned off the monitor though, I found out that many of the harmless noises were blocked out and I would only hear him when he really was crying, which actually helped him sleep without my interrupting him all the time and which also gave me peace of mind.

When my son was 5 months old, we moved to a different appartment. By that time he already could recognize the environment well enough to know that he was in a different room. It took him a while to adjust to it. I heard that babies start to recognize the ceilings at 4 months. I don't know if it's a proven fact or someone's experience, but it appeared to be the case with my son. So, if your daughter is already sleeping throughout the night, then I'd say move her sooner than later, so that she can get used to how her room looks, smells, and feels like.

One last thing I would like to add is, for a room to feel comfortable enough for sleeping, it has to be dark, quiet, and adequately warm. Of course, you know to make the bed/crib safe by removing all furry stuff animals and choking hazzards and making sure the sheet is tightly stretched and there are no loose pieces of cloth or clothing anywhere. If you can give her this type of environment, then she'll sleep soundly and safely.

Edit: After I had plenty of proof that my son could sleep through the night, unless he was sick, I normally do not check up on him in the night. I got up often to do that when he was little so that I could understand his sleeping patterns and make sure I had his environment just right... especially the temperature. But, after I knew exactly how to adjust his thermometer and knew how many hours he would sleep, etc., then I just put him down at night, and check on him again the next morning. This way I was able to get really good nights' sleep. If he is sick though, I respond to every cry (little or big) for the duration of the illness, but he still stays in his room.

Definitely try placing her in her room downstairs and check on her for as long as you need to give yourself that peace of mind. But, once you get to know her habits better, you won't need to check up as often. Also keep in mind that the bigger they get, the louder they cry. So I think you won't have trouble knowing when she needs you. Good luck with the transition!

How can I get my infant to fall asleep on her own? What age is ideal for starting?

kweenB

I have a five week old baby, and I have been holding her until she falls asleep then putting her down in her crib afterwards. When and how do I get her to fall asleep on her own?

Answer
What are the signs of sleep readiness?
Your baby may show signs of being ready for sleep when you see the following signs:

rubbing eyes
yawning
looking away
fussing
How can you help your baby fall asleep?
Although it is surprising, not all babies know how to put themselves to sleep. When it is time for bed, many parents want to rock or breastfeed a baby to help him/her fall asleep. Establishing a routine like this at bedtime is a good idea. However, be sure that the baby does not fall asleep in your arms. This may become a pattern and the baby may begin to expect to be in your arms in order to fall asleep. When the baby briefly awakens during a sleep cycle, he/she may not be able to go back to sleep on his own.

Most experts recommend allowing a baby to become sleepy in your arms, then placing him/her in the bed while still awake. This way the baby learns how to go to sleep on his own. Playing soft music while your baby is getting sleepy is also a good way to help establish a bedtime routine.

What sleeping positions are best for a newborn?
For many years in the United States, babies have been put to bed on their stomachs. In most other countries, babies sleep on their backs. Research has found a link between sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and babies who sleep on their stomachs (in the prone position).

Experts now agree that putting a baby to sleep on his/her back is the safest position. Side-sleeping may also be used, but this also has a higher risk than back sleeping. Other reports have found soft surfaces, loose bedding, and overheating with too many blankets also increase the risk for SIDS.

Place your baby on his/her back on a firm, tight-fitting mattress in a crib that meets current safety standards.

Remove pillows, quilts, comforters, sheepskins, stuffed toys, and other soft products from the crib.

Consider using a sleeper as an alternative to blankets with no other covering.

If using a blanket, put your baby with his/her feet at the foot of the crib. Tuck a thin blanket around the crib mattress, only as far as the baby's chest.

Make sure your baby's head remains uncovered during sleep.

Do not place your baby on a waterbed, sofa, soft mattress, pillow, or other soft surface to sleep.

According to the task force report, bed sharing or co-sleeping may be hazardous for babies in certain conditions. The report advises the following:

Parents should consider placing the infant's crib near their bed for more convenient breastfeeding and parent contact.

If a mother chooses to have her infant sleep in her bed to breastfeed, care should be taken that the baby sleeps in a non-prone position, soft surfaces or loose covers are avoided, and the bed is moved away from the wall and other furniture to avoid the baby becoming entrapped between them.

Adults other than the parents, children, or other siblings should not share a bed with an infant.

Parents who choose to bed share with their infant should not smoke or use substances such as drugs or alcohol that may impair their ability to awaken.

To prevent overheating, the report recommends that the infant should be lightly clothed for sleep and the room temperature kept comfortable for a lightly clothed adult. Avoid over bundling and check the baby's skin to make sure it is not hot to the touch.

Additional research has found that infants should not be put to sleep on a sofa, alone or with another person, as this practice increases the risk for SIDS.

While babies should sleep on their backs, other positions can be used during the time babies are awake. Babies can be placed on their stomachs while awake to help develop muscles and eyes and to help prevent flattened areas on the back of the head.

How do you break the endless cycle of recruitment and regeneration of Al Qaeda or others like it?

.

Most of them join Al Qaeda voluntarily, not by force. Mainly motivated by their religion and politics.

Answer
I think a major first step would be if the President quit surrendering to them. "We will leave by the end of the year!" ("Yea!!!" Say his toadies.) And "Yea!!" say our enemies. Then they turn to the farmer and say, "See? America is leaving in a few months. They'll be gone. They won't be there to protect you. We won. And you will pay."

If all he had done...and it is SO simple, but Democrats NEVER get it!...is don't SAY you're going to give up. During the Vietnam war, the NVA were constantly monitoring our radio and were constantly hearted by America's flagging resolve under Johnson. They knew that all they had to do was hold on and America would quit. And we did. Like Vietnam, Obama has lost this war. He lost it when he gave up.

UPDATE: Their motivation. Personally, I think religion has very little to do with it. I believe the key motivator is power. These guys aren't fighting to spread their religion, they're fighting to gain control. They USE religion as a facade to justify their tyranny. Think of the prince bishops in medival Europe. Power hungry with almost no regard for 'religion'. Religion was a means to an end. I was in Wurzburg, Germany in January. Toured the Prince Bishop's palace. Now this was THE guy, the big Kahuna in the Catholic church in the region and there was not a single...not one...representation of Christ in the entire palace. Lots of Greek gods, swords, spears and nekkid nymphs, but not a single representation of Christ and only one depiction of any Christian theme, Moses as a baby. The objective here was power and to project power, not religion. Al Qaeda is much the same way.

What do you see the world being like in 2030?

love_66

I am worried that we are going to be too controlled & monitored. Having little freedom or rights left. Like computer chips being placed directly in babies as they are born. Is there a way for us to all join together to stop something like this from happening? Maybe a place to hide? I am thinking New Zealand or a tiny island off the southern coast of Spain.. What do you think things will be like in the future?

Answer
2010s - The Rise of the Second Russian empire. A new cold war will be fought between America and an autocratic Russia attempting to build another empire. Poland will become a major ally of the United States in this cold war. The Islamic jihadists will slowly be pushed underground as slowly a more conservative Turkey will impose it's dominance over the Islamic world. China will reach the peak of its financial strength towards the end of this decade or the start of the next one. India will rise at a slower rate than China, but the stability of its government will continue the economic expansion longer. In the United States and Europe privacy rights will be expanded as people become more and more concerned.

2020s -- America and its ally Poland will emerge as the winners in the second cold war against Russia. Turkey will be the de fato leader of the Islamic world and will start to crash with American interests more. China will collapse as the world's new super economic power. Declining birth rates caused by the one child policy will cause China to have way too many old people to support. The mass amounts of corruption and bad loans to internal parties will prove the Chinese system is not superior to the Western World. There will be massive internal China political fights between the wealthy coasts and the poor internal Chinese. China will act in one of two ways to solve this problem: Seal China off from the world or fragment along geopolitical areas. Most likely China of the 2020s will look at a political level a lot like China of the 1920s. India will emerge as the expected economy to over take America. Japan, as the second largest economy in the world, will try to again assume de fato political power over areas of China, but this time by money, not guns. The first solar energy collectors will be placed in orbit and will start to beam their power back to Earth by microwaves. This will start to spell the doom for nations those primary export is oil.

2030 -- Computers will be monitoring us 24/7, but with the primary purpose of watching our health. A computer will notify emergency units of someone having a heart attack before it actually happens. Privacy laws will be very tough; however, it will be easy to monitor anyone. America will be starting another long economic expansion as the World's most powerful economy. Americans will start to worry about the number of Indian imports.

Can your neighbors listen in on your phone conversations with a baby monitor ?

baby monitor out of range image

Lady

If you're on your cordless phone in your home? I've heard that its possible for neighbors with baby monitors to do this to their neighbors, and I wouldn't think this would work, unless my cordless phone acts as a monitor.

Answer
It's possible if the phone and the monitors work in the same broadcast frequency.

Most do not, however. Modern cordless phones operate in the 2.4ghz wavelength, and older ones operate in the 900mhz wavelength (the newest ones operate in the 5.2ghz wavelength, but don't worry about those).

Most baby monitors work in the 300-900mhz wavelength, so a few of them *can* pick up on older cordless phones, but those that do are few and far between... especially becase every phone and monitor is coded to only pick up a very specific frequency around their specified range... so crosstalk is less likely.

What is the best 2 room video baby monitor?

Kristin

I would like to get a baby video monitor but I want it in both kids rooms with only one monitor screen. What is the best one on the market for the cheapest price. Or...is there a video system out that has only one camera that I can order a 2nd camera separate for?

Answer
Hi

Like any other products, baby monitors need to suit your lifestyle and satisfy your requirements, even to the slightest of details. So before you purchase one, try to dwell on a number of factors first. These things will not only serve as your guide, they will also help you pick out the best type or brand for your little one.

Some of the things you need to consider are:

Range
Portability
Levels of Interference
Video Monitoring Options

There are more details at the link in the source box about the Best Baby Monitors and I hope they help

Take care

How old was your child when you stopped using a baby monitor?

My oldest is 25 months (just turned 2) and I still have one in her room. She's my alarm clock. When she wakes up, I get up lol. I wouldn't hear her without the monitor.

Answer
We still have monitors in my kids' rooms with the receivers down in our family room. My son is 3, and my girls (who share a room) are 6 and 7. I know that we don't really need them anymore, but it's hard to hear the kids when we're downstairs. (Our bedroom is just down the hall from their bedrooms, so I don't use a monitor from my room.)

Honestly, I use the monitors mostly during the day so that I can hear if they start to argue and need me to run interference. ;-) It's also nice at night when the kids go to bed and we're still up so that we can hear if they need anything without them having to scream for us. We've talked about getting rid of them before, but the kids kinda use them as (one-way) intercoms now, so we've just left them.

I'm struggling to find a baby monitor that works in our apartment. We've tried 3 kinds and they don't work.?

Bountifulb

We always have terrible feedback and pick up other baby monitors, but never our own. I've heard there is a difference in short and long range monitors. Does anyone know anything about this, and if so, are there any monitors you recommend under $40?

Answer
There are two problems you may be experiencing. The first is your monitor is too low tech and is getting electrical interference or noise from electronics, power lines etc... The second is your monitor may be too "good" and has a large range, which encompasses other parents with monitors on the same frequencies.

Before you buy any monitor, make sure the store will let you return it if there is interference.

First I would try a good "low tech" monitor like the Fisher Price Surround Sound Lights and Sounds Monitor, $27.99 for 1 Receiver. It uses the 49 MHz band, which not many other things use now and could be the least expensive answer to your troubles.

If that doesn't work for you, skip the 900 MHz monitors and try the 2.45 - 2.54 GHz models, there is almost no difference in cost and a much better chance at clear reception. Models to look for are: The First Years True Choice ($40), Graco I-Vibe, Summer Infant Simply Clear Digital Audio Monitor
($49.99)

If these don't work the next level would be monitors with DECT technology. These are "guaranteed to be interference-free, and most clients who have them have had great luck with them. These usually run $80 and up. But I doubt you will need to go this route.

Hope this helps,

Alan

Which one did you use?

whats a good wallet friendly baby monitor camera and sound that can be viewed from phone threw wifi?

ryan

I want to be able to view threw phone and still have a monitor at home with little or no monthly fees to view online is there such a system?

Answer
You can check Foscam ip/network cameras. It works over wifi (wireless) or with cable to your internet connection router. It costs around 80 dollars I think... Some models have 2 way voice, too... With night vision and everything... You can even change the camera direction remotely from your phone or computer... It's not easy to setup initially (the user manual was horrible when I bought it 6 months ago), but once it's done - no problems... I have 2 of them at home.

Is there a video baby monitor that works without needing an internet connection? My internet is limited to 5gbs per month. I did a search but couldn't find any information. Thanks in advance!

Answer
I have a video baby monitor and it does not require internet, it's Medela brand :)

What is the range of a video baby monitor?

Charlie

We are thinking of getting a video baby monitor. We are wondering what is the distance the signal can be picked up. People are telling us burglars and pedophiles will drive around and pick up the signals. But what distance does it take, because we can see around our house where someone might park to view our monitor and that is in plain sight. Thanks for the help.

Answer
Video monitors don't have a long range but according to the article below, the picture is scrambled. The sound monitors can be heard as far as 900 feet, which is pretty much a small corner of your neighborhood.

Could you please share your baby list that includes items to buy before delivery?

11456!!

Hi - I am due this August and in the process of making my baby list, doing research and shopping. I will be grateful if you could please share your lists (including brands/models - if at all available), so I can judge what's actually required and also find out if I am missing out on anything important. It's so easy to overdo baby shopping. I wanted to limit the shopping to really useful items that are worth it.

Thanks so much!

Answer
Absolutely necessary in my opinion:
-Diapers (sizes one and two to start, newborn are pretty useless)
-Wipes (I like Huggies wipes better)
-Car Seat (I love Graco seats, both infant and convertible)
-Blankets (For an August baby go with thin thermal and recieving, for swaddling and laying on surfaces)
-Baby Bath Tub (I liked Fisher Price Ocean Wonders with the sling for an newborn)
-Sleeping place (I had an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper, along with a crib for later)
-Diaper Cream (Desitin), Shampoo and Baby wash (Johnsons is good, Burts Bees smells awesome), Medications (Target brand Tylonel, Motrin, Gas Drops, Teething drops), Thermometer (Safety First)
-Bottles if you plan to formula feed (You might want to try one brand at a time til you hit what the child likes)

Really nice to have:
-Stroller (Again, I recommend Graco)
-Bath Towels (I like Target Brand with the hoods, they are soft)
-Bouncer Seat or Swing (Fisher Price is a go-to for good stuff)
-Fan (They say it reduces SIDS and helps babies breath better, not to mention blocks out some noise which makes Mommies feel better)
-Sling or baby carrier (I loved my Mai Tai wrap, it made it so easy to go out with him as a newborn and also to get things done in the house)

Not necessary at all:
-Changing table or pad (We never owned one, never used one)
-Pack-n-play (Unless you travel a lot, we don't use ours)
-Rocking chair (never sat in it once)
-Baby monitor (if you have a small house, you are going to hear the baby...but it is a good purchase once the baby is older...We have a "Baby Call" by Sony and like it)

I think that is all. Remember the usual stuff like clothes, somewhere to keep the clothes, free and clear laundry soap, goodies for you (breast pads, sanitary napkins, pjs for nursing if you are).

We need a baby monitor for 2 different bed rooms, is there such a thing?

MegM0930

My husband and I are expecting our second baby in 4 weeks. We also have a 2 year old. We have been looking every where for monitors to have in each of their rooms. I would need to receivers because we have a 2 story home. It seems to be impossible to find. I know Im not the only mom out there with 2 children who need monitors in their room...Please help!

Answer
You need two monitors and two recievers or just one reciever? If it is 2 reciever just buy two monitors with different frequencies like the summer infant hand held.

Would you sleep in the basement with your children sleeping on the main level?

best baby monitor large house on best sellers the new york times best sellers children s books ...
best baby monitor large house image

Brandi

We have a three bedrooms on the main floor, but they are all small. The master on that level is so small that we have only about a foot of space to walk around the bed. We have an unfinished basement that we are working on right now and are planning on putting a master down there as well. This room will be twice the size as the one on the main level. We figured that when we sell the house it will give the buyers a choice of sleeping in the small master on the main floor or the larger in the basement. We had planned on moving to the basement, however we are now second guessing ourselves. We have a baby and a toddler who will be about 1 year and 3 years when we finish the basement and their rooms will be on the main level. So again my question is would you sleep in the basement with your kids sleeping on the main floor? ***We live in a small town in rural Wisconsin where there has maybe been 1 murder in the past 50 years or so and are very few other crimes...if this would sway your answer.*** THANKS.

Answer
I personally would not want too. My oldest is 6 and I still like to have her close to me at night. If the kids were older, maybe teens, I would but not with them so young. The choice is yours and you can always use a baby monitor. But even with a monitor I would not feel comfortable with that sleeping arrangement.

How old would you consider old enough to be on a seperate floor?

Jessica

We just bought a new house, and my son is 4. All me and my husband have for our room is a bed and dresser. My son has all kinds of stuff for his room. The house we got is a bungalow, and has 2 bedrooms on the main floor and the "master" upstairs. The 2 rooms on the main floor are kind of small compared to what were coming from, but the master is quite large. Do you think he would be old enough to be on a different floor than us? The only other thing we need a room for is a computer room, and it seems to make sense to not use the master for that...what do you think?

Oh also, stairs arent really an issue, hes as good with stairs as you could expect a 4 yr old to be.
ok i must not have been clear about the setup. The 2 bedroom are on the MAIN floor, like downstairs. The master is upstairs. He would be in the master, upstairs, me and hubby in bedroom downstairs and computer room downstairs. It seems rather wasteful to use an entire upstairs (the master is the entire upper floor) for just a computer desk and chair...i wont put him downstairs and us up, would have to be him up and us down. Hope that made it more clear!

Answer
I think four is old enough to be one a seperate floor. Until you get used to it, you may want to use a baby monitor, just to make you feel better about being able to hear him. You should also make sure the stairs are lighted somehow (you can get those ones that stick to the wall and you just push on and off) so that if he needs you in the night he'll be able to see them.
