what router would you recommend if I use my computer and ipad?

looking for a new router...........i use a computer(desktop) and ipad

i also use netflix a lot

Answer
Pretty much any wireless router can serve your needs.

It all depends on the features you need or want on the router.

There are currently two WiFi frequencies, with 2.4 GHz being the most prevalent. Some newer devices also support the 5 GHz band.

There are various backward compatible wireless standards.
802.11b = 11 Mbps
802.11g = 54 Mbps
802.11n = 150 (300) Mbps
802.11ac = varies 500 Mbps+ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11ac

If you are just using the WiFi connection for Internet access then the speed is pretty much irrelevant. Internet speed is determined by the ISP and no type of wireless or wired connection can make it faster.

Here is how it works,

A router connects two separate networks and manages the traffic between them.

In most home network applications the router connects your local group of computers and devices known as the LAN with the Internet, commonly called the WAN or Wide Area Network.

Your WAN speed is determined by your ISP and is measured in Mbps (Millions of bits per second).

For example if you pay for a 3 Mbps Internet connection, you will get 3 Mbps.

No router or connection settings will change your 3 Mbps Internet speed. This connection bandwidth is shared by your entire LAN via your router. In a shared setting with several users this can be a big problem.

For example if you have a 3 Mbps Internet connection and one user is utilizing 2.5 Mbps of the bandwidth to stream a Netflix movie that only leaves 0.5 Mbps for all of the rest of the users on the LAN.

The only real way to speed up your Internet connection is to get a faster ISP or speed tier.

As far as range goes,

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc. 2.4 GHz WiFi connections also experience interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones which interfere with the 2.4 GHz band.

Dual band routers have multiple wireless radios enabling broadcast on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously. Using the 5 GHz band cuts down on interference from cordless phones and microwave ovens.. Not all devices can use the 5 GHz frequency. Many laptops and other devices only operate at 2.4 GHz. Thus the need for dual band routers.

Depending on the size of your house and the factors listed above, you may need one or more wireless access points or wireless range extenders to cover all areas adequately.

Just because a particular wireless router works good at one location does not guarantee that it will have similar performance in a different location due to variance in the factors listed above.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

All of that being said,

Wireless routers are fairly inexpensive. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=wireless%20router&url=search-alias%3Daps&sprefix=wireless%20ro%2Caps%2C490&tag=excharge-20

As far as the brand goes, the brand is not as important as the model. Some manufacturers release a good model but the next is crap. I would look at the Amazon reviews of models that interest you. Even if you don't buy from Amazon the reviews will tell you a lot about which models to avoid. Look for at least 15 or more reviews with a 4 star or better rating. Read a few and see if they sound like the particular model will work for your application.

If you are interested I use a dual band Netgear router. http://isp1.us/reviews/netgear-rangemax-wndr3700/

Good Luck...

what is the difference in N wireless to G wireless?

oe542

what is the difference in N wireless than G wireless?

Answer
802.11n is faster and has a longer range than the older wireless standards. This standard can also operate on the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz spectrum (depending on the router). Running on the 5Ghz spectrum can eliminate a lot of interference caused by baby monitors, microwaves, etc... It has a theoretical speed (throughput) of 600Mbps, but in reality will be much slower, but faster than the G standard.

If your looking to purchase a new wireless router I would go for the "N" standard unless it's a lot more money. With the MIMO feature "N" has, it will give you a longer range and help speed up large file transfers.

In short, it is all around better :)

The pro and cons of getting a child support order?

baby 02 monitor on Tenvis-Wireless-WiFi-IP-Camera-Baby-Monitor-IR-Night-Vision-2-Way ...
baby 02 monitor image

Chica

I am in my 7th month now and I battling what to do once the baby is born regarding child support. The father handed me $1000 the other day to buy things for the baby. The thing is that he doesn't work steadily so he has money sometimes but most of the time not. He has made all kinds of threats about how he won't pay should I take him to court. Also, we both want try to work out the relationship and I feel like taking him to Court is only going to make that less possible. I trust that he means well, as in, he wants to provide for his child, but I also think he will try to minipulate me with the money. As in, hold it back when we're not getting along, or give it to try to smooth things over. So, I feel stuck, like I am his whim without the order, or with the order he's going to raise hell and not pay. He has no problem not working, he'll find some women to take care of him, so I believe his threats about not paying. What kinda of security will the support oder offer me in my situation?

Answer
trust? i trust the child support calculator (listed below)...

the honor system doesnt work, thats been proven. he'll drop off a pack of diapers once in while, and go around tell'n everyone he 'supports' his child...you'll see.

the child support order protects your childs rights; there is no "fathers rights" in child support, nor "mothers rights" in child support...ONLY the child has rights. it protects what is supposed to be given and when. it keeps track and monitors said amounts (as long as you are calling the caseworker when its not being paid, for they are overloaded with cases).

GONE ARE THE DAYS OF HIDING TIL THE CHILD REACHES 18; today, laws are stronger then ever.
-------------------------------
when its not paid, you can do the following:
well the honor system doesnt work, thats been proven. its also why the state and federal government passed stronger laws for child support; they are TIRED of people not paying for their children.

the arrears still keep adding up.

1) call your caseworker and ask:
--request an enforcement hearing.
--where you apply for interest on the arrears?
--was the case submitted for tax refund intercept?
--was the arrears reported to the credit reporting agencies yet?
--ask why they have not taken his drivers license away yet?
--ask why they have not put liens on his bank accounts yet?
--ask why there has not been a warrant issued yet?

2) sit down and write a letter. in it, give your contact info, case number, his info, arrears amount, the problem and ask them what they are doing about it.

keep the letter short, its more effective that way.

then take that ONE letter and FAX it to the following:
a) your states Attorney General (link is below)
b) your states Governor (link is below)
c) your states Regional FEDERAL Child Support Office (link is below)

phone calls are useless; they are ignored, denied and forgotten. mail ends up on someones "to do" pile, but FAXES are effective. its proof you sent it and proof they recieved it, therefor, they HAVE to address it. if you cant find a fax number (most are listed online) then just call them and ask for it.

if you hear nothing in a week, fax them again. fax them weekly if need be. its the squeaky wheel that gets the oil, if ya know what i mean.

3) Report his azz to the IRS (in writing), for heâs supporting himself, somehow. Tell them you strongly suspect him working under the table to avoid a child support order.

4) Report his azz to the Social Security Office if heâs been using others SS#.

4) post his DEADBEAT FACE ON A DEADBEAT SITE ONLINE.

Should we require testing for having kids in the USA?

Q. I'm on the fence with this one. I believe that no one has the right to say who can and cannot have kids, but at the same time I believe that there's too many people having kids that do not want them, are not good parents, are not responsible enough and so on. Would the test be before or after the child is born? Who would administer the test? Who would ensure people are taking it? What kinds of questions would be on it? What are your thoughts - is it unethical to require such testing?

Answer
No... BUT... We should start a MANDATORY class on Sexual Education, Child Development, & Child Psychology starting at the same age we give start the "Health Classes", which I believe is Grade 5.

There should be a MANDATORY AlaTeen Meeting at EVERY HIGH SCHOOL to help deal with the pandemic of abuse, addiction, molestation, mental illness, etc. (& no, just because it is based on the 12-Step Program doesn't make it a bible-thumping christian recruitment center. That's a myth spread by people that don't want to seek help for their addictions/mental illness to justify their refusal to seek treatment.)

Children that are being abused, be it physical abuse, sexual abuse, verbal/emotional abuse, raised by addicts, abandoned by a parent, raised by mentally ill parent/s, etc. should be provided with MANDATORY mental health treatment so they don't grow up to repeat the cycle of chaos & abuse that jacked up their parents...

Children of sexual abuse should have a note put in some sort of permanent record that they need extra therapy & to be monitored because 60% of abused children commit either Peer on Peer sexual abuse or Adult on Child sexual abuse. Sexual molestation is the only crime that exponentially increases the numbers of victimizers. (Not to mention that we now KNOW how abuse in Childhood alters UR epigenome & dramatically increases UR risk for obesity, diabetes, heart diseases, stroke, mental illness, & severe addiction.)

- - -- - -- - -- - -- - --

Children born to Teenage Mothers should be given extra therapy & attention to make goddamned sure they don't make their half-tard baby-mamma's 35 year old grandmas... The pattern of behavior & family of origin is CLEAR CUT. The generational transmission of trauma causes children to grow up & repeat the same unhealthy behaviors of their parents.

The Government should subsidize Long Term Contraception starting at Puberty. The use of the Depo 3-Month Birth Control Shot has been documented to have drastically reduced the number of abortions & unwanted pregnancies in this country as well as in other areas of the world where women are 2nd class citizens & can be beaten for just asking her man to use a condom. Rwanda, Africa has a more advanced Female Reproductive Health Care System than the US does.

The patch, the shot, the ring, the implant... Just the fact that these girls won't be sh*tting out unwanted kids will pay the government back in full in a single generation because not only would welfare numbers go down, but CRIME would reduce because there won't be half as many abused kids acting out by going out & joining gangs, vandalizing property, stealing, mugging, etc. because when a Boy gets abused, they turn to crime & when a girl gets abused, she ends up pregnant at 14 & on the poll by 18. Just the long term reductions in prison population will repay ALL MONEY spent on therapy, education, & contraception.

Today, everyone believes that they are a special little snowflake... Utterly different than EVERYONE ELSE ON EARTH. They believe that with a short background history, no 1 could EVER predict their behavior because "I'm Special".

Yet what do we do with animals? How many polar bears must be studied before we can predict the behavior of almost all polar bears? 200? With humans, we might have to study 400 but the results are the same... We can predict a person's behavior based upon their past, specifically their family of origin.

Addict mom or dad? U have a 50% chance of having inherited the genetics for addiction. An intoxicated parent is an abusive parent which sets U up to be attracted to victimizers, chaos, & addicts as partners in adult life & U'll have a hard time maintaining healthy intimate relationships because of how UR brain was hardwired as a child.

I have looked into digital monitors, but they're a little out of my price range. Does anyone know of any good classic style baby monitors? I am pregnant with my first child.

Answer
I love the Sony sound sensor baby call. It's voice activated so you don't hear the static. You do have the choice of listening to everything though. I bought a second one for my 3 yr olds room since I can't hear her if she calls out. They are only $35.00 at Target, great buy.

Whats a good baby monitor for a 2 story house?

Nathan

I am about to have my first baby and i would like to buy a baby monitor. Has anyone got any tips, should i go digital or is there really no need. Please help.

Answer
I have BT monitors which i have found brilliant!!

The main handset is in my childs room, on my hand set i can play a number of different lullabys, it tell me the room temp, it beeps to tell me if the room is to hot or cold. The sensitivity is excellent and can be set at different levels, you can hear your baby breathing at high sensitivity. It also has an intercom where i can speak to my baby when i press a botton. It also has a night light that i can turn on and off from your monitor. it also reaches up to 300 metres.

Sorry to go on abit but i would recommend these to anyone. I got my on Ebay for £32! I think at the time they were 70-80 in the shops.

Here is a link if u want to have a look at them

How do I get rid of these spirits?

best baby monitor guide on The Best Baby Monitors - Techlicious
best baby monitor guide image

lexi Henso

Over the past 5-7 months, MANY spirits have been haunting my little sister. Bit marks appear on her in the morning, she doesn't like to go in her room, and often talks to a 'wall' as if someone is there. Recently, we inserted a baby monitor to see what happened. I can look in the monitor and see faces and body's in the crib. How can I get rid of these spirits? HELP! (There is also an adult.)
Also, there are orbs flying everywhere, faces and body's appear on the carpet [They CHANGE facial expressions.], walls, and even look at you.

Answer
This is no joke an evil spirit is harming your sister. You need a Priest who is strong in faith for this. To deliver her, protect her and cleanse her. DO NOT try and get rid of it (them) by yourself, they are intelligent beings and do not have any kind of morals. You also need a house cleansing and a house blessing but get a Priest first to get rid of the demon and its friends, he will also guide you with the cleansing and blessing. All you said above is classic demon activity. Call this Warrior Priest who is also a demonologist RIGHT NOW.

How much does a baby Red Eared Slider Turtle eat?

Desiree

My son was given a baby turtle 2 weeks ago by a friend, i have never had to take care of a turtle before. I have only seen Donatello eat 3 times since we got him. He runs around and swims all day so he is not acting like he is depressed or sick. Just wondering how often he is suppose to eat.

Answer
Red eared sliders are very common turtles and do make great pets!

Your turtle will always be begging for food. Red-Eared sliders have a voracious appetite. This will depend a bit on your individual turtle. A good rule of thumb is to feed as much as your turtle will consume in 15 minutes. If you feed in a separate container, it is easier to monitor how much and how fast your turtle eats. It is important to offer a variety of foods at the same time -- don't just give your turtle its favorite items.

As an alternative guideline, another common "rule of thumb" is to give meals that are roughly the same size (in total volume) as the turtle's head and neck. Still, you'll need to monitor your turtle's body condition and adjust if necessary.

Keep in mind, that if you are feeding strictly by these rules, feeding every day might be too much, and every two or three days might be too little. You will likely need to adjust the amount you give your turtle. The best guide is to monitor your turtle's weight and condition, and with a little experience you will get to know better how much your turtle can eat and stay in good condition. You also do not want to let juvenile turtles grow too quickly. If a growing turtle gets too fat or grows too quickly it can cause bone and joint problems

To ensure proper nutrition, strong growth and a healthy long-lived turtle, feed a varied diet to both adults and juveniles. Just remember that adults eat less animal protein and more vegetable matter. Juveniles must be fed every day; adults can be fed once every two to three days. Do not feed more than they can eat; the excess food will go to waste and foul the water. Feed a combination of the following foods:

Commercial diets (No more than 25% of total diet)
Trout Chow, commercial floating fish, reptile or turtle food (pellets, sticks or tablets). The pellets and sticks have the advantage of being formulated specifically for reptiles and don't decompose in the water as fast as other foods.

Animal Protein (No more than 25% of total diet)
Live feeder fish--do not feed defrosted frozen fish; they are deficient in thiamin and excess consumption will cause a thiamin deficiency in your turtle. Earthworms--buy them from a reptile or aquarium store; do not feed the ones from your yard as they may contain bacteria, parasites and pesticides against which your turtle has no immunity. Finely chopped raw lean beef, beef heart and cooked chicken are okay for treats, but are not appropriate as a major part of a balanced diet for whole prey eaters. High quality dog kibble can be offered occasionally as treats, too; like muscle meat, dog and cat foods are not appropriate when used as a significant portion of a turtle's diet.

Plant Matter (50% or more of total diet)
Offer leaves of dark leafy greens such as collard, mustard and dandelion greens. Offer shredded carrots (and carrot tops), squash and green beans. Fruit can be offered raw; shred hard fruits like apples and melons, chopping soft fruits such as berries. To help keep their beak in trim, let them gnaw on pieces of cantaloupe with the (well washed) rind still attached.

Vitamin Supplements should be added twice a week. Use a good reptile or turtle multivitamin. Turtles must also be supplied with additional calcium; they often enjoy taking bites out of calcium blocks and gnawing on cuttlebone, so always have some available to them.

The Samsung SEW-3037W is a great video monitor with pan/tilt and zoom features. It also comes with night vision, good quality audio and good battery life. You might also want to consider the Levana Astra. This model has really good battery life.

The Motorola MBP36 is also a popular choice, but I think the above mentioned models are better

What is the best baby video monitor?

We have a 13 week old baby and are going to buy a video monitor to keep an eye on him when in his cot. There are so many available with different reviews, can anyone recommend a good one preferably with zoom function from the parent unit?

Answer
I have been looking into them as well and we are leaning towards the summer flat screen one.

I need a camera to mount on a remote control car. It needs to be light weight, with a light source, battery powered and wireless. Baby monitoring cameras appears to be ideal except I haven't been able to locate one that has a light source for picture or video in a darken room.

If you have any idea where I can find such a camera it would greatly appreciated,

Answer
most cameras are pretty light weight these days but as far as something that has it's own permanent light? I don't know of any. Maybe you could try this light as it's only 4oz. and a camera to go with it. Hope this helps in some way.

Baby monitor with web connection where the in home monitor will work even if my internet goes down?

Jennifer

I am looking for a reliable video baby monitor that I can view on my computer at work, but that is independent in that it will continue to work as a monitor even if my internet connection goes down.
I already found one , the Sassy Web Watch Video Monitor, so I know they exist. I am looking for more options...

Answer
I think you are a bit in the future. Internet connections have to come from somewhere. Do you know how expensive a camera with its own internet connection would be? My home comcast goes down. My cell phone's 3G goes down. Even if you get a dedicated T1 line to your house it can and will still have down time.

Usually holes in the internet services are less then a minute long. While I realize a lot can happen in 1 minute, I doubt your nanny will be wonderful the whole day then magically know the net is down and start beating your kid.

This Of Items Needed For A Newborn?

I Need A List Of The Items Needed For A Newborn & Their Price If You Can. Thanks!

Answer
For a breast fed baby:
Clothes, car seat/stroller/travel system, burp clothes, lots of blankets, gripe water, diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, infant bath tub with sling, baby soap, washcloths, towels, diaper bag, rubbing alcohol and q-tips for cord, thermometer (I have an Exergen forehead thermometer), nose aspirator (I use the one the hospital gave us)

Things that aren't necessary but are helpful:
My 2-month old sleeps in her Fisher Price Sleep Rocker during the day and was in her reclined swing for the first month and a half but is now in her crib at night. I also have a sheet saver on her crib in case she has a spit up so I won't have to change her sheets.
We used pre-made swaddlers when it she kept waking herself up with her arms/startle reflex. I have since switched to sleep sacks without sleeves because she can't have a blanket and kicks them off all the time anyway.
I use my video monitor whenever she's in her room and love love love it. It's a Motorola MBP36.
Contoured changing pad/cover. I also put waterproof pads over her cover because of accidents during diaper changes and extra poopy diapers.
I have a Medela Swing single electric pump, bottles and nipples for whenever I am too full or need to feed her while we are out. I expressed for 2 days when she was less than a week old because I couldn't wake her to feed her easily and wanted to monitor how much she was eating.
My baby doesn't take pacis, the cat just eats them.
Newborns don't need toys. My 2 month old still can't hold a rattle but I shake it for her and she seems to calm down some.
I use a travel wipe warmer when we are at home. She doesn't like cold wipes.
I use my diaper genie all the time.
Baby lotion
I also have a mobile on her crib but haven't turned it on since she still doesn't really focus on things.
