Q. I am still healing after having an ectopic pregnancy in the one of my fallopian tubes. Unfortunately the tube couldn't be saved but I do still have both ovaries so my hormones are not very messed up from this experience. I am wondering if anybody has successfully got pregnant within a year after an ectopic. I am nervous that this is going to prevent us from having another baby!! Please share your experience!!

Answer
I haven't personally had this experience, and I am so sorry that you have! I did find these answers from other women online and I hope they help you. Good luck TTC!

Last edited 04/14/2010 Yes, it is possible for you to get pregnant right away. I had one 8 years ago(EP surgery) and about 2 months later I was pregnant. i was told that it doesn't matter how many tubes you have you still could conceive regularly with only 1 tube. I did.

Last edited 04/14/2010 I had surgery 2/22 and also lost my right tube. I got a + HPT for 3 weeks after that. My first - was on 3/17 and I got AF on 3/22, they didn't monitor my HCG since they took everything out there was no point. But hopefully yours is a true BFP, good luck...

Last edited 04/15/2010 I know how terrifying it is to get pregnant again after an ep. I had my ep in Nov 2007 and lost my left tube, I got pregnant again in Aug 2008 and was a nervous wreck until I saw the baby in the right spot with a heartbeat. I went on to deliver a healthy baby boy 9 months later. Good luck to you. Jayna..

posted 03/31/2013 I am SO sorry you had to go through this... you are not alone. My husband and I were devastated when we had an ovarian ectopic too. My friend suggested this book....'And Then You Were Gone', by Becky Avella. I would highly recommend this to anyone who went through this, my husband is now reading it too. It touched on exactly how I was feeling, I hope this can help you too!! xoxo "For I know what I have planned for you says the Lord. I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope. " - Jeremiah 29:11

hi, I am 4 weeks 3 days preganant, LMP was 12/2/2013(without any doubt).Since day before yesterday i start?

Q. hi, I am 4 weeks 3 days preganant, LMP was 12/2/2013(without any doubt).Since day before yesterday i started having crampy lower abdomen pain for which i consulted my OBGYN, She urgent made me undergo the TVS which revealed pregancy of 5weeks 5days (no idea, how ?ultrasongraphist told me its all based on measurement , though I am pretty sure about my LMP dates) with the left side corpous leuteal cyst and just the gestational sac without fetal pole & no Yolk sac was visualised , which apparently should have been noticed till now according to the doctor,he told me tht he will repeat again the usg after 5-6days for the confirmation, ans it could me blighted ovum..on review with the my Gyanac, she told me tht we will go with the LMP dates as they r more realiable n will repeat the scan after 10 days. she is put me on complete bed rest with TAB SUSTEN 200MG & suggested that the crampy lower abdominal pain resembling PMS is all because of the corpus leuteal cyst and i might have to bare with it till my 1st trimester, she told me that with dates we don't expect anything more then the gestational sac at this moment.I have started with susten thrice daily, but i am too puzzled whom to believe and stressed out, as i am aware of the fact that that USG finding in early pregnancy are more accurate then the LMP.What should i do?please guide me properly,I can withstand the reality and be prepared for the worst, please guide me in proper way?is it blighted ovum? As far as i know that usg is always less than that LMP date, then why in my case it is coming more? I am to stressed, plz help me out asap..
its not December but 12th feb(LMP was 12th feb. 2013). No they didnt get any hcg levels checked.
thanx for those sweet words.but do u think its pretty okaay, my gestational sac measures 10mm acc to usg report?which makes its 5 weeks 5 days on the day when usg was done..though with lmp its just about 5 weeks now...here while surfing net i came across the fact that yolk sac develops when the gestational sac is over 8 mm.i m freaking out to the core.just keep on thinking about this all the day....

Answer
I really think your physician is worrying you too soon. We didn't see my baby until just about nine weeks! I had to turn down the D&C at seven and eight weeks. Yes, this may end in miscarriage but they really cannot know that for sure before nine weeks or so. Don't be afraid to get a second opinion. Also, keep in mind once the gestational sac is visualized, many doctors stop taking hCG levels because they can rise, plateau or drop and still be normal. Unfortunately, time is the only true test of a blighted ovum. Stay monitored and, as with any pregnancy, please be seen right away if there are complications. I do hope you get better news soon!

Oh, an just read your additional details. At my eight week ultrasound, my gestatational sac measured 21.5mm and looked completely empty. One week later at 28.5mm, they found my little one. Hang in there. Saying a prayer for you!

I am looking for a reliable video baby monitor that I can view on my computer at work, but that is independent in that it will continue to work as a monitor even if my internet connection goes down.
Brian ~ Which monitor did you choose?

Answer
This was a catch 22 for me. Obviously to see my baby, and check they are OK was a good one. But I decided wireless technology is still in its infant days. Who knows in the future, whether exposing a baby to radiation is good for them. That's why I went with a wired monitor. So any wired monitor is the one I would choose, but that's the problem, most are wireless. Babies are especially vulnerable because their bodies and nervous systems are still developing and because they will have more time to accumulate exposure to the radiation and for any delayed effects to develop. The jury is out, but I don't personally want to be a guineepig.

I looked at http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/cv600.html,
But in the end went with just a simple wired sound monitor. You can put them closer, due to a much smaller magnetic field and hear the baby breathing . It maybe that magnetic fields dont harm the baby, but there have been some concerns in some of the trustworthy papers here in UK such as the independant.

I already found one , the Sassy Web Watch Video Monitor, so I know they exist. I am looking for more options...

Answer
I think you are a bit in the future. Internet connections have to come from somewhere. Do you know how expensive a camera with its own internet connection would be? My home comcast goes down. My cell phone's 3G goes down. Even if you get a dedicated T1 line to your house it can and will still have down time.

Usually holes in the internet services are less then a minute long. While I realize a lot can happen in 1 minute, I doubt your nanny will be wonderful the whole day then magically know the net is down and start beating your kid.

how common is to keep on having the period even if you're pregnant

I've heard of women that are pregnant, but still get their periods.
how common is that?
and in those cases, the period is totaly normal as usual?
ok, there may be bledings and they are not the period, but if the exactly day I'm expecting my period, there is a bleeding, and I have the same pains I have during my periods, and it lasts the same than my usual periods, and it's as heavy as it always is.
is it possible that is not my period and that it is just some bleeding?

Answer
in reality you cannot have an actual period during pregnancy. there are other terms/reasons for your bleeding throughout pregnancy.

The answer is No:

It seems like at some point every woman has heard that their sister's friend's cousin had a period while they were pregnant. Or "oh I bled throughout my pregnancy and didn't know I was pregnant because it was my period!" This is a myth. Women often confuse any vaginal bleeding as their period because that is what they are used to happening. You did not experience a period; you experienced vaginal bleeding! This is a common a common occurrance and a wide misconception.

You cannot have a period while you are pregnant because both of these functions cannot happen at the same time. If you were pregnant and began menstruating, inevitably you would lose the pregnancy or have a miscarriage. Although you can't be pregnant and have a period at the same time, you can, in fact, experience vaginal bleeding and continue to be pregnant. These are two very different terms: vaginal bleeding and menstruation (period), but it is usually vaginal bleeding that women confuse as their periods.

Bleeding early in pregnancy, as in the first trimester, is scary, but luckily it usually doesn't signal a problem. It is also rather common among women. There are a few common causes of first-trimester bleeding, none of which is an indication of trouble.

1. Normal implantation of the pregnancy into the uterine wall. This bleeding, which sometimes also occurs when a fertilized egg (embryo) attaches itself to the wall of the uterus (generally two to five days after conception), is brief and light and only lasting a couple of days. Implantation normally occurs around five to ten days after conception.

2. Hormonal changes when the period would have otherwise occurred. This type of bleeding is also usually very light, but it can sometimes seem like an actual period. Many women report that they do actually bleed regularly during the early portion of their pregnancy, none of which is a true menstrual period, and this is usually the culprit for that. It is often referred as early pregnancy bleeding and is caused by hormonal changes in the body due to the pregnancy. This is also rather common among women and, again, can appear to be a menstrual period. It's not though.

3. It could be a subchorionic bleed. This is when a small blood clot forms at the edge of the placenta. It usually stops on its own and isn't normally an emergency. But your doctor will want to monitor this with ultrasound to be sure that the clot has resolved itself.

4. Decidual bleeding. This is period-like bleeding (but not your period) when your hormones may get out of whack. It will cause you to loose parts of the lining along the uterine wall. This is especially common in the very early stages of pregnancy because the lining hasn't had a chance to completely attach to the placenta. Although a scary thought, it is not generally considered to be a health risk to neither mother or baby.

5. Getting pregnant while on the pill. This is often associated with bleeding during a pregnancy and can be confused with a menstrual period. Many women will have several bleeding episodes before they realize something isn't right. This will cause the woman to be unable to accurately tell her doctor when her last real menstrual cycle because of the confusion, and an ultrasound will be required to determine an estimated due date.

Often the real case can't be pinpointed, but the bleeding stops spontaneously and in the situations above, the pregnancy continues just fine. As a precaution though, any bleeding should be reported to your practitioner so that he or she can evaluate it. Record whether it is intermittent or persistent, when it started, the color, the heaviness or lightness of the flow, any odor, or any tissue fragments (bits of solid material) that may have passed with the blood. If there were, try to save them in a jar. Also report other symptoms like excessive vomiting, any pain, fever, weakness, and whatever else you might feel.

Any other kind of bleeding than those above, you should make a quick call to the doctor, or if he isn't in, a visit to the ER. It could indicate a less common, and much worse, cause of early bleeding, which includes:

1. Miscarriage. The light bleeding will turn into heavy bleeding and will be accompanied by strong lower abdominal pain that comes and goes. When a miscarriage is taking place, you should find a passage of embryonic material in the blood. A brownish discharge may mean a missed miscarriage. Sometimes, if the fertilized egg doesn't develop, the sac is empty and no embryonic material could have passed.

2. Ectopic pregnancy. Signs include brown vaginal spotting or light bleeding, continuous or not, and have abdominal and/or shoulder pain that is often severe. This type of pregnancy will have to be surgically aborted as it poses potential harm to the mother. The fetus would not be able to survive in this type of pregnancy anyway.

3. Molar pregnancy. Signs include a continuous brownish discharge. This one is a very rare, yet very serious, problem. See the related links below for more information on this condition.

Why You Cannot Have A Regular Period During Pregnancy
The pregnancy hormone completely prevents ovulation in the first place. Ovulation is required to have a period.

You cannot have a period while you are pregnant by the very biological definition and function of the two. Think about it!

Your cycle is what causes a period! Your body releases hormones during this cycle. Those hormones send signals to your reproductive organs to perform certain tasks. An increase in hormones causes an egg to be released from your ovaries. While it travels, a layer of blood and tissue thickens to protect the uterine wall. If the egg is not fertilized, hormone levels drop and you start your period as that extra thick layer of blood and tissue detaches itself and comes out.

While you are pregnant, your body focuses on providing a healthy environment for the fetus. Your brain sends signals to your ovaries to stop the cycle so that the baby can grow. As a result, hormones continue to build and rise for the next nine months because it can't drop.

If you continued to have a period while you were pregnant, it would be shedding the lining of the uterine wall. This lining is what helps to nourish your baby each month. So in biological terms, it makes no sense to have a period while you were pregnant and simply not possible. Therefore, the spotting or bleeding that you are experiencing is caused by something other than your period.

Always Tell Your Doctor
Make sure you record all information and even descriptions of, especially, the first and also subsequent vaginal bleeding episodes. You need to tell your OB/GYN every possible detail that you can about the odor, appearance, any tissue, color, flow, and any other concurrent symptoms elsewhere in the body. Your OB/GYN will need to evaluate you and determine whether your particular cause of vaginal bleeding is cause for an emergency, or more commonly, a non-emergency issue. If you experiencing symptoms of a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, or molar pregnancy, you need to call your doctor for instructions, or if he isn't in visit your nearest ER pronto.

Don't be embarrassed about it, and don't worry about "grossing out" your doctor. If your doctor was "grossed out" by this, he or she would have chosen a different career path. They answer these types of questions and put mothers-to-be at ease every single day.

Since women confuse and accept bleeding during a pregnancy as their period, they fail to inform their doctor. Thus, there are very harsh consequences for not obtaining the proper medical attention in time when they have abnormal vaginal bleeding.

For more information regarding vaginal bleeding during pregnancy, visit the links below. They are reputable sources of information from the medical community and can further explain this and other related pregnancy concerns.

Also, if you still insist that it is your period, then have your doctor complete another pregnancy test (unless it's obvious) and have him/her explain to you why you are having a period while you are pregnant. He will tell you it is vaginal bleeding and not a menstrual period.

What happens if you don't drink any water for 1 day?

Jess

What about 2 days?

Answer
Definition
By Mayo Clinic staff

Dehydration occurs when you lose more fluid than you take in, and your body doesn't have enough water and other fluids to carry out its normal functions. If you don't replace lost fluids, you may get dehydrated.

Common causes of dehydration include intense diarrhea, vomiting, fever or excessive sweating. Not drinking enough water during hot weather or exercise also may cause dehydration. Anyone may become dehydrated, but young children, older adults and people with chronic illnesses are most at risk.

You can usually reverse mild to moderate dehydration by drinking more fluids, but severe dehydration needs immediate medical treatment. The safest approach is prevention of dehydration. Monitor your fluid loss during hot weather, illness or exercise, and drink enough liquids to replace what you lose.

Symptoms
By Mayo Clinic staff

Mild to moderate dehydration is likely to cause:

Dry, sticky mouth Sleepiness or tiredness â children are likely to be less active than usual Thirst Decreased urine output â no wet diapers for three hours for infants and eight hours or more without urination for older children and teens Few or no tears when crying Dry skin Headache Constipation Dizziness or lightheadedness Severe dehydration, a medical emergency, can cause:

Extreme thirst Extreme fussiness or sleepiness in infants and children; irritability and confusion in adults Very dry mouth, skin and mucous membranes Lack of sweating Little or no urination â any urine that is produced will be dark yellow or amber Sunken eyes Shriveled and dry skin that lacks elasticity and doesn't "bounce back" when pinched into a fold In infants, sunken fontanels â the soft spots on the top of a baby's head Low blood pressure Rapid heartbeat Rapid breathing No tears when crying Fever In the most serious cases, delirium or unconsciousness Unfortunately, thirst isn't always a reliable gauge of the body's need for water, especially in children and older adults. A better indicator is the color of your urine: Clear or light-colored urine means you're well hydrated, whereas a dark yellow or amber color usually signals dehydration.

When to see a doctor
If you're a healthy adult, you can usually treat mild to moderate dehydration by drinking more fluids, such as water or a sports drink (Gatorade, Powerade, others).

Get immediate medical care if you develop severe signs and symptoms such as extreme thirst, a lack of urination, shriveled skin, dizziness and confusion.

Treat children and older adults with greater caution. Call your family doctor right away if your loved one:

Develops severe diarrhea, with or without vomiting or fever Has bloody stool Has had moderate diarrhea for three days or more Can't keep down fluids Is irritable or disoriented and much sleepier or less active than usual Has any of the signs or symptoms of mild or moderate dehydration Go to the nearest hospital emergency room or call 911 or your emergency medical number if you think a child or older adult is severely dehydrated. You can help prevent dehydration from becoming severe by carefully monitoring someone who is sick and giving fluids, such as an oral rehydration solution (Pedialyte, others) at the first sign of diarrhea, vomiting or fever and by encouraging children to drink plenty of water before, during and after exercise.

hey is it unhealthy to eat fish everyday?ive heard different stories, ive heard its bad to eat fish every day and to just eat like 4 times a week, then I hear somewhere else its very healthy for you,not sure what to believe lol,can anyone give me their opinions?thank you

Answer
Fish has mercury in it which is really bad for your body, and can cause birth defects in children. While fish is good for you, you need to research which fish have the lowest mercury levels, and which fish are not endangered.

By the way, the guy talking about eating a can of tuna a day, don't listen to him. Tuna has one of the highest levels of mercury, and is dangerous to consume large amounts.

For fetuses, infants, and children, the primary health effect of methylmercury is impaired neurological development. Methylmercury exposure in the womb, which can result from a mother's consumption of fish and shellfish that contain methylmercury, can adversely affect a baby's growing brain and nervous system. Impacts on cognitive thinking, memory, attention, language, and fine motor and visual spatial skills have been seen in children exposed to methylmercury in the womb. Recent human biological monitoring by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 1999 and 2000 (PDF) (3 pp., 42 KB, About PDF) shows that most people have blood mercury levels below a level associated with possible health effects. More recent data from the CDC support this general finding.

Outbreaks of methylmercury poisonings have made it clear that adults, children, and developing fetuses are at risk from ingestion exposure to methylmercury. During these poisoning outbreaks some mothers with no symptoms of nervous system damage gave birth to infants with severe disabilities, it became clear that the developing nervous system of the fetus may be more vulnerable to methylmercury than is the adult nervous system.

For more information on fish consumption advisories across the country, visit EPA's fish consumption web pages.

In addition to the subtle impairments noted above, symptoms of methylmercury poisoning may include; impairment of the peripheral vision; disturbances in sensations ("pins and needles" feelings, usually in the hands, feet, and around the mouth); lack of coordination of movements; impairment of speech, hearing, walking; and muscle weakness. People concerned about their exposure to methylmercury should consult their physician.

Hope this helps! I've included links to this information, and a link to a mercury calculator. The calculator will help you determine how much fish you should eat in a week by what kind and the amount.

Take care :)

unborn baby's heartbeat slower because I was lying on my back?

sdubbs

I am a week late to have my baby and yesterday at my midwife appt the baby's heartbeat was slower than usual. My midwife said this was because I was lying on my back which babies app don't like! Has anyone else heard this before?
Once I moved onto my side it got faster but every other time I have been I've laid on my back and it has been normal and when I've been monitored at the hopsital. Just beginning to panic that I should have looked into this further at the time. I'm seeing my midwife again tomorrow but am worrying that in the meantime something might be wrong and I wouldn't know about it until it is too late.

Answer
Info below from babycenter.com
Hope this helps!

During the second half of pregnancy, avoid sleeping on your back, a position that puts the full weight of your uterus on your spine, back muscles, intestines, and the inferior vena cava (the vein that transports blood from your lower body to the heart). Back-sleeping can also put you at risk for backaches and hemorrhoids, inefficient digestion, and impaired breathing and circulation. Lying on your back in the second and third trimester can also cause changes in blood pressure. For some women, it can cause a drop in blood pressure that can make them feel dizzy; for others, it can cause an unwanted increase in blood pressure.

savannah monitor lizard where to buy in NY?

baby monitor lizards for sale image

David B

I am deeply interested in finding a savannah monitor lizard, i live in ny, at the beginnings of Long Island, but only 25 miles from nyc. i would love nothing more than to find a breeder, but i cant find any, even when i go to places such as kingsnake.com, its almost impossible to find specifically what im looking for, and i dont want to buy from large chains like petco and petsmart that have no idea about anything they sell, and their animals are in unfortunate horrid conditions. if anyone knows some breeder or place nearby where i can purchase a savannah monitor lizard (preferabbly a baby from a breeder nearby) then please tell me as much info as u can...i want to make the lizard a new part of my family, and am committed to giving it unconditional love!

Answer
You're probably going to have to wait till spring time and order one.. With most of the monitors now being illegal in NY, I'm sure any local breeders are probably a bit leery of posting their stock online. Savannah's are still legal, but, your average animal control officer probably can't tell the difference between them and a couple of the banned monitors..
Here's a nice looking girl for sale on Kingsnake, though, you'd have to have her shipped...
http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=53&de=565558

I would almost recommend going with a different monitor, like an Argus or Roughneck..
http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/animals/monitors-and-tegus/-/young-adult-argus-monitor/
There's a young argus..
They seem to be a lot more available then the savannah..

Here's a good care sheet on the Savannah..
http://www.anapsid.org/savannah.html

I have never owned a monitor though, and can't really help you more then that.. I had done research on them as I was considering taking a friend's Nile monitor on, but, decided against it..

How much do these reptiles usually cost by just the animal itself?: Monitors, Iguanas, and Boa Constrictors?

Khalis

I understand that monitors can be a sort of demanding species and even aggressive as iguanas but I constantly do my research and read a lot about them but how much do they usually cost just the animal itself because some of you already know I want to start a reptile collection filled with snakes, monitors, and iguanas and who knows maybe even some crocodilians but that's only if they are legal in the state of california in which I doubt but i've seen and heard of some pet stores carrying those around here and i've even seen a picture of a albino rattlesnake being for sale at my local reptile store so yeah how much are monitor lizards more like the cheap species: Ackie, Savannah, Nile, and Water Monitors and how much are the Green/Red Iguanas? and Boa Constrictors as well? I need to know ASAP!

Answer
On the boas, it really depends on what kind of boa you go for. If you are just looking for a Red Tail boa, then your looking at between 50-150 depending on size and pattern. Savannah monitors tend to be around 50 for hatchlings, and it increases as the size of the monitor goes up. Niles start at around 150 to 200. Water monitors start at 200. Green iguanas can usually be found for about 20 as hatchlings. Red iguanas are usually around 50.

If you are going to start a reptile collection, please, please, PLEASE do you research on the animal you are looking at getting. Monitors take a lot of work, can be highly aggressive, and require alot of room. Niles usually grow to around 7 foot, and some reach larger than that. They weigh 100+ lbs, have very sharp claws, and a very powerful, bone crushing bite. Their appetites are also ridiculously large. Depending on the species, they will require a high protein diet and will need to eat every 2-3 days.

I would honestly start with just a normal Colombian Red Tail boa. Males tend to max out around 5-6 foot, females closer to 6-8 foot. They are commonly very hearty snakes. In my experience, they have been easy to tame, and are very good eaters and will almost never refuse a meal. As babies, they will eat a rat as big as the thickest part of their body every 7 days. As they start to get bigger, you can reduce the feedings to every 10-14 days with an appropriate sized rat or even small rabbit. I have a 5 and a half foot female that is the sweetest thing. She often comes with me as I go around and run my errands. She is a great eater and is in a 200 gallon enclosure.

Also, you should keep in mind that not every reptile is the same. They have personalities just like humans. One monitor may like being with you and being handled, while another one of the same species may not want to have anything to do with you, I repeat my earlier statement by saying PLEASE do your research. You need to make sure that you have everything you need to properly house and take care of the reptile you decide to get. Each different species have different requirements for living a healthy life.

I hope this helps you and I hope you find something that you can love and take care of and make a part of your family and not just some fancy show item.

I have two iPhones, the old iPhone 3g and the new iPhone 4s. now i wanted to use my old iphone 3g (iOs version updated) as a Home Spy Camera and wanted to watch my kids at home live stream to my new iPhone 4s while im at work. i also got my Home Wifi network. is there any best iphone application out there for this matter? or is it possible to use my Home IP address to use and access it for this concept?

Answer
There are many training videos telling us how to make iphone as home spy camera on line.
Um...I've found two:
1. http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-use-iphone-as-spy-camera-423938/
2. http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-make-iphone-secret-spy-camera-423940/
The second video looks like very easy to access, but I don't know if it is useful for you.

If these two ways are not fit, I suggest you to buy a Baby Monitor or Home Spy Camera. You can visit this online store:
http://www.accessbuy.com/wholesale-Baby-Monitor_120.html
http://www.accessbuy.com/wholesale-IP-Camera_113.html
It's a wholesaler, so its price is very low.

all of the sudden my iphone 4s acts like there is no wifi connection at my house. when i first get home it works for a while, then shuts off, and turns on for a minute, and then stays off. i've tried resetting the network settings and it's not the internet because i'm on my laptop right now. i tried shutting my phone off and on. this is really frustrating because i get zero cell phone service, so i can't just use 3G. I really need help. please & thank you!

Answer
Wants to tell you that the Wireless signals are effected by by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc. Your latency (ping) may be 30 ms and wireless interference could cause it to spike to 200 ms or more. Must be you use to sit far away from you wireless router.

For this the solution is that you should try to centrally locate your wireless router gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

YES..I got this one COVER$ED.../
You get a VOX-operated Tape Recorder..
You get a DOOR-activated BELL(buzzer)not really loud..just enough to set off the TAPE Recorder..RADIOShack has some Magnetic Switch Buzzers..there's a huge Siren..and more subtle "ding-dong"..
You use the DING-DONG..that activates your VOX-operated tape recorder..so that any entrance is recorded on sound tape..I use Re-Chargable Batteries so I can place the Recorder in a closet that is right next to my front APT-door..((you need))to install a LOCK--on that Closet Door..and just lock everything else..
..
I also use a LOREX Baby Monitor..to guard my Entrance..
its attached to one of my VCRs(VHS)Recorders..
..
I basically just use my SOUND Recorder when I return..because the Video Recorder takes alot more time to review..
I rely on the Audio surveilance..the VIDEO is back-up..
..
VOX..cassette recorder..about $$40.00
LOREX Baby Monitor..about $$100.00
..
been useing mine for over 5-years...[end]

need help with moniter or intercom system?

DarkAngel

is there some kind of moniter or intercom system where u can one person kind press the a button to talk but the person on the other end doesn't have to do anything

Answer
There are a few.

The Portable Intercom System on the Gadgetshack.com website

http://www.gadgetshack.com/wireless-home-intercom-system.html

Has a VOX feature that allows you to make a call, but the person answering does not have to hit the button. Keep in mind the calling end would have let go of their button so the other person can respond. It also has to be preset to VOX (voice activation).

These intercoms also have a Monitor mode which acts like a baby monitor when it hears noise, you can also interrupt that mode by calling with another intercom.

I have a friend who is deaf who has an infant (we had our babies about a month apart) and she was complaining on facebook about her baby not sleeping through the night (yeah...join the club!) and I was just wondering what kind of system they would have for waking them up when their baby cries. Her husband is profoundly deaf too so he can't hear the baby either. I felt weird asking her "so how you hear your baby?". Are there baby monitors that vibrate that would wake you up?

Answer
They make monitors specially for these reasons.

Kudos to your friend for being deaf with an infant. Being a mom is hard enough, can't imagine what obstacles she has to deal with being deaf also.

How do deaf people know when their baby crying throughout the night?

...

I know that they have special doorbells that make their lights flash and bed vibrate.... but you can't have a special baby they makes your lights flash!!!

So, how do they wake up for the every-two-hour-feedings?

Answer
Baby Monitors light up when the baby cries or makes a sound.

Besides that, (even without a baby monitor) It's all nature; nature takes its course.
A deaf Mother is more in tuned with her other senses, that's when their Motherly Instinct is at its best.

A deaf Mother won't just depend on 'electronics' or 'devices' to stay in tuned to her baby, a Mother can sense when her baby is crying and needs her, that's what 'Motherly Instinct' is all about.

I know for a fact when my son was little, my breasts would leak when he would cry. It was my body telling me that my baby was hungry or needed me for comfort.

This lady told me a story once:
She told me about a deaf Mother and Father who had a baby who had all of his senses, she said that baby learned (quick!) that the Parents were deaf, and instead of crying, the baby would move and use body language to communicate with his parents.

It's amazing how God takes care of EVERY detail, he makes a Mother aware of her young, and a baby aware of its Mother to where no 'modern technology' is needed.
A Mother can sense (in an instant!) when her baby needs her ..

What Is a good Baby Monitor?

Pam

I've been looking on amazon for a baby monitor but it seems like all the reviews i read contradict each other. i was hoping someone could compare the experiences they had with baby monitors and talk about which brands they loved or hated

Answer
Hi Pam,

It depends on your budget and what you want from a baby monitor. Basically there are three ways of monitoring; audio, video, or movement sensing. Generally the cheaper baby monitors are just audio ones, and the more expensive options use video. For under $100, I can recommend the Angelcare Baby Movement and Sound Monitor or for a video monitor, the Levana Jena. For higher end baby monitors, the Samsung SEW-3037W and the Levana Astra are both good choices.

I get decent signal on the main floor and when i go in the basement my signal sucks. I have Verizon

Answer
Well here is some information that tells you what interferes with wireless signal:

Sources of interference for wireless devices and networks

The farther away the interference source, the less likely it is to cause an issue. The following items can cause interference with wireless communication:

* Microwave ovens: Placing your computer, Bluetooth wireless device, or AirPort base station near a microwave oven that is in use may cause interference.
* Direct Satellite Service (DSS) RF leakage: The coax cable that comes with certain types of satellite dishes may cause interference. Obtain newer cables if you suspect RF leakage.
* Certain electrical devices such as power lines, electrical railroad tracks, and power stations.
* 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz phones: A cordless telephone that operates in this range may cause interference with wireless devices or networks when used.
* Metal objects: If possible, move metal objects or change the placement of the computer, wireless device or wireless access point so the path between your computer and the wireless device or wireless access point is free from metal objects that may cause interference.
* Video senders (transmitters/receivers) that operate in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bandwidth.
* Wireless speakers that operate in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bandwidth.
* Certain external monitors and LCD displays: Certain displays may emit harmonic interference, especially in the 2.4GHz bandwidth between channels 11 and 14. This interference may be at its worst if you have a portable computer with the lid closed and an external monitor connected to it. Try changing your access point to use 5 Ghz or a lower 2.4 GHz channel.
* Any other "wireless" devices that operate in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bandwidth (microwaves, cameras, baby monitors, and so on).

Note: Some devices may not overtly state that they operate in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bandwidth. The operations manual should indicate the frequencies the device uses to operate. These may be referred to as "Dual Band" or "Wireless" devices.

Effect of home and office elements on wireless communication
Where you are located and what materials you are surrounded by can affect your wireless networking performance or Bluetooth wireless device. The table below shows common elements and their potential for interference.
Type of Barrier Interference Potential
Wood Low Interference
Plaster Low Interference
Synthetic material Low Interference
Glass Low Interference
Water Medium Interference
Bricks Medium Interference
Marble Medium Interference
Paper rolls High Interference
Concrete High Interference
Bulletproof glass High Interference
Metal Very high Interference

I would say your problem is Concrete because of the bricks, which are almost the hardest next to metal and bulletproof glass... But if you can get a wireless access point and get it at the entrance of the basement, it will take the signal from your router and extend it into your basement. You can take these WAPoints and move them around to see where you get the best signal in your basement with where the access point extends the signal too. I hope this helps. Also some of the other items listed above can cause inteference but I would suspect the concrete and start there. There not too expensive and you can have more than one.

Upgrading router, what is a great one to buy?

~~ Pola

I will spend up to $150 and no more for a router. The router we have currently gives out great signal but with all the new technologies that have come out, it fusses if we add multiple devices to it so it is time to upgrade! Currently I have a Netgear router (bought it 5 years ago). Thanks for the help!
Dr.Dave - One example) Whenever we tried Facetime via iPhones, the connection would be there for 30 seconds then completely cut off.

Answer
Most any router can handle 20+ devices.

My Netgear WNDR4000 currently has 25 connections, 8 via Ethernet and 17 via WiFi with no problems whatsoever. The WNDR4000 is not sold anymore, but here is a slightly newer model. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008HO9DK4/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B008HO9DK4&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

You would likely be better off to upgrade your Internet connection.

Here is how it works,

A wireless router connects two separate networks. In your case it would connect the Internet connection from your ISP with your local home network (LAN).

Internet speed is measured in Mbps and determined by the ISP plan that you purchase. You can measure your Internet speed here: http://speedtest.net

No router or connection type will change your Internet speed. This connection bandwidth is shared by your entire LAN via your router. So any bandwidth others are using will be deducted from the total Internet speed that is available to you. In simple terms, the more users you have the more speed will be required. Things such as streaming video (Netflix) suck up a lot of bandwidth. Here are Netflix minimum speed recommendations. https://support.netflix.com/en/node/306

For example if you have a 3 Mbps Internet connection and one user is utilizing 2.5 Mbps of the bandwidth to stream a Netflix movie that only leaves 0.5 Mbps for all of the rest of the users on the LAN.

The only real way to speed up your Internet connection is to get a faster ISP or speed tier.

As long as the connected devices are not actively using the Internet connection they do not consume bandwidth or slow the connection down.

Many people would be likely be surprised at how many active connections their wireless router has. I have dozens. Cell phones, tablets, iPods, game consoles, laptops, desktops, ROKU boxes, Internet enabled devices such as TVs and audio receivers, and the list goes on.

That being said,

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc. 2.4 GHz WiFi connections also experience interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones which interfere with the 2.4 GHz band.

Dual band routers have multiple wireless radios enabling broadcast on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously. Using the 5 GHz band cuts down on interference from cordless phones and microwave ovens.. Not

do wireless landlines pick up yours or your neighbors phone conversation?

i dont have unlimted minutes on my cell phone.my parents believe that if you have a wireless your neighbors could listen to the conversation know i cant talk on the phone while on the computer or go to my room im going to show my parents the anwsers please help convince them that a wireless land line is better

Answer
the first cordless phones operated around 48Mhz as well as baby monitors and the like...and were easy for people to listen in on your conversations.. it was not uncommon for a baby monitor to pick up your conversation, or for 2 cordless phones to hear each other....

the 900 Mhz phones solved some of those problems... but people with radio scanners (police scanners) could still listen in on your calls...

DSS technology stopped that... and many newer 900 Mhz phones come with DSS...

also most 2.4Ghz phones have DSS or FHSS, aside from that, most radio scanner equiptment only goes up to 1.3Ghz - however these phones may interfere with WiFi

5.8Ghz phones also normally come with DSS or FHSS... and again are outside the range of most radio scanners.... however, because they are a higher frequency the range is less...

DECT phones operate within the 1.9Ghz range, are immune to interference from other devices, and provide the best range, clarity, and security...

so the only way that a neighbor can listen in to your conversation with a cordless phone that you purchace today would be if you bought a 900Mhz phone that did not have DSS....

which of the following is not an example of radio technology? answer choices below!?

Andrea M

a.baby monitors b. cellular phones c. internet d. both b and c e.all of the above.

Answer
Dear Andrea M.,
Answer is a. baby monitors. Baby could be monitored by CCTV (Close Circuit TV). While cellular phones and internet are examples of radio tech utilization. Cellular phones works use radio wave in frequency around 800, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz, while several internet connections use radio wave as well, eg. through satellite, or through cellphones (EDGE, GPRS, 3G, 3.5G).
Thank you very much Andrea M.

What is your all time favorite baby or toddler item that you have seen or purchased recently? - Any category...
What brand is it? How has it made your life easier?

Answer
I have two favourites
my favourite toy is "sophie the giraffe" i was blown away by the price, $20 for a rubber giraffe, but my daughter absolutely loves the thing, it's hand made in france from all natural rubber and if painted with food grade dye so it's safe, it's so soft and it has taken a real beating from my little one and still looks great.

my favourite piece of equipment is the angel care baby monitor, my daughter started having sleep apnoea episodes around 2 months, when she stops breathing the monitor sounds an alarm so we can get to her right away.

How can I get my 2.5 mon. old puppy to stop chewing on all my electric cords?

Angela V

my puppy keeps chewing on all my cords. She has eaten my cell phone charger, the baby monitor cord, and the lamp cord as well. I dont know what to do to get her to stop destorying my stuff

Answer
OH man, you have to start from scratch here. First of all, a puppy HAS to be confined when you can't watch her. A crate is the best for overnight and when you go out but you can also do baby gates and confine to the kithcen and make sure you pick up all shoes, or anything on the floor that you don't want the dog to have. You have to look at this baby as though she was a 1 yr old child. Would you leave a toddler child around to wander the house unsupervised? If she chews one more cord, she may get electrocuted so get crating now!!! Crate training also helps with potty training. http://www.perfectpaws.com/crt.html

How can I stop my cordless phone from interfering with my wireless router?

baby monitor 2 way radio image

I dont kno

I have 2.4 ghz spread spectrum cordless phone that autoselects the clearest channel everytime you use the phone and there is no way to change the channel manually. I also have a linksys 2.4 ghz wireless router. Using the cordless phone renders my wifi useless 9 times out of 10. I have tried to change the routers wireless channel (possible values are 1-11 I think) but that did not solve the problem. Does anyone know what I can do to prevent this interference?

Answer
Each device uses the same frequency band (as do garage door openers, baby monitors, Web cams, ....).

You can change frequency bands for one or the other. Use a 5Mhz phone, or a 5MHz band WiFi gear (802.11a).

Reduce the relative signal strength seen by the 802.11b/g stuff you've got. Move the phone to the other end of the house. Move the laptop (or whatever) closer, leaving the phone in the same place, ... Add an antenna (probably a corner reflector (chicken wire may be a perfectly sensible material) for the rubber ducky type of antenna design most commonly seen) to both ends of the WiFi link (you may not have to physically crack open the radios at either end, but note that this dodge increases signal strenght in one direction (and does the same to receiver sensitivity). Since both the phone handset(s) and the mobile WiFi device (a laptop, probably) is also mobile, this isn't any kind of universally adequate dodge. Find a way to reduce the phone's signal strength (probably not possible to non-techie types) unless it's possible to say, put soeme absorbing or reflecting material between the phone and the WIFi radios. An experimental bronze foil covered wall, perhaps. Ought to work well if you can keep the two radio types out of each other's effective range. May not be possible in some kinds of interior decorating environments. consult with those in charge before trying anything like this.

Another dodge ito try to arrange that the WiFi antennas are a 90 degree polarizatino difference than the phone antennas (as usually used; if you have sprawling teenagers, this may not be predictable).
Since both devices operate (or probably do) in a spread spectrum mode, each will appear to the other to be a general increase in the noise level against which they must work. Changing channels (if possible) isn't likely to be very effective. Too much noise, no radio receiver will be able to make sense of what it hears.

I want a room to room intercom for my house. What kind?

Dianaprinc

I want an intercom for my house between just two rooms - but I want it to be 2-way (so it doesn't cut out one of the talkers). I'd be happy to use a baby monitor, intercom, or phone with intercom - but I can't tell what would have 2-way speaking. My phone now is only 1-way and it doesn't work well. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Answer
Go to Radio Shack, they have different kinds and price ranges.

What baby monitor do you have? Are you happy with it?

Beth

This has been a toughie for me and hubby. The reviews on all baby monitors are very mixed, and neither brand nor price really seem to have anything to do with whether or not people like a monitor. Just wondering what you have and use, and maybe what you've used in the past. What have your experiences been like with those brands?

Answer
We picked up a used 'first years' one at a garage sale...it works fine...but our rooms are so close together at one end of the house, that we wind up just turning it off.

My sister used an 'Angelcare' one...it works fine too...

They're generally all pretty good...it just depends on whether you want 'bells and whistles' with it or not.

What is the best video baby monitor out there?

Q. I'm looking for a video monitor that can have several different cameras (need it to monitor at least two rooms). I have read reviews on many, many brands and products but they are all so contradictory. Any advice from someone who has one and either loves it or doesn't like it would be very helpful.
Can you be more specific....there are a lot of different Summer Infant video monitors. Why do you like it?

Answer
Summer is the one we have and we love it..

How far along do you need to be before seeing the baby's heartbeat on the sonogram?

baby heart monitor 6 weeks image

Elizabeth

I have heard the heartbeat now many times, but I remember when I was about 5 weeks all I could see was a black bean. When is it typical to see the heartbeat show up on the monitor? I ask because my best friend didn't see it at 6 weeks and I never thought to ask!

Answer
At 5wks6days with my son there were gestational and yolk sacs. At 6wks6days there was a little bean with a beating heart.

Does anyone know if taking progesterone supplements will continue an unviable pregnancy?

metallica_

Ive already seen the heartbeat but that was 6 weeks ago, and Im just not feeling as pregnant as before.

Answer
It can continue a pregnancy that isn't viable, but what you're experiencing is normal. At about 11-13 weeks pregnant (which you would be at least that if you saw a heart beat six weeks ago) your hormone levels start to plateau and then drop off slightly. Many women don't even feel pregnant after 12 weeks until they start feeling the baby move and their belly starts getting noticeably bigger.

I'd say you're probably fine, but if you're worried I'd ask my doctor to let me come in to hear the baby's heart beat or do an ultrasound just so you feel more reassured. Personally, I'm renting a fetal heart monitor to use when my symptoms start to drop off. I've had 3 miscarriages before this one, so I need the extra reassurance.
