Mummy to b

I'm in Australia and I'm looking for some second hand items in good condition of course. I would be more than happy to pay reasonable prices for the items or take them off your hands if you no longer need them. Naturally I will pay postage costs. Here are the items I am looking for: (Anything I am requesting must be neutral in colour as I am unsure of the gender of my baby)

Grobags/Sleeping Bags
Cot Sheets/Bassinet Sheets
Grobag Egg
Monitor
Angel Care Movement & Sound monitor

If you have any other items you think I may be interested in please post details and I will email you if I am interested. Obviously my main goal is to save money but I don't want crap items. I'm sure you understand.

Thanks
Thanks for your well wishes!!

We have chosen Hollie Kate for a girl and River Stanley for a boy =]

What lights should I have for a baby savannah monitor?

I have a 30-40 gallon tank until my custom one is done and I have 5 lights I just don't know how to set up the cage and what lights go where. Pictures would help alot

Answer
Why FIVE lights ???

You only need ONE - a 160 watt mercury vapour UV & Heat Lamp such as the Zoo Med PowerSun lamp. This should also have a guard over it and switched on from 12 to 14 hours a day.
http://styr-paa-dyr.dk/upload/Krybdyr/Exo_Terra_Solar_Glo.jpg

Download and read these two booklets I have written:

and

A reference book is also available to download and save to disc:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/95075161/The%20Savanah%20Monitor%20Lizard%20X.pdf
======================================================================
For a juvenile monitor lizard you need use a 48" x 24" x 24" (or larger) wooden vivarium with glass sliding doors for 1 or 2 Beardies, something like this:
http://www.reptilia.org.uk/ekmps/shops/thepetshop/images/vivexotic-vx48-wooden-reptile-vivarium-5397-p.jpg
Glass is not a suitable material to use for keeping high-temperature / desert living reptiles from Africa in !
Wood has better heat-retaining properties and will also stop your lizard having too much humidity in the enclosure. Glass tends to cause chest infections & skin conditions due to condensation and lack of ventilation.

Heating should be provided by a roof-mounted 100 watt or 150 watt ceramic heat emitter:
http://www.petsolutions.com/images/Products/15522044.jpg
or a reptile radiator
http://reptilekeeping.co.uk/images/eurorep/Radiator72.jpg

connect either device to a thermostat set at 75ºF. The probe should be sited 3" off the floor at the opposite end of the vivarium to the heater [the cool end].

It is ESSENTIAL that the heater is protected by a mesh guard to prevent your lizard burning itself:

or
http://www.customguards.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/wpsc/product_images/reptile-radiator-guard-white.jpg

Day-time Ultra-Violet light, "normal" white light and basking spot heat should be provided by a 160 watt mercury vapour UV & Heat Lamp such as the Zoo Med PowerSun lamp. This should also have a guard over it and switched on from 12 to 14 hours a day.

How do you get better reception on a baby video monitor?

KMCelio

I just bought a Summer Video Monitor and it doesn't work without static between two rooms in our small condo. I am hoping there is a way to improve reception, because right now I can't even keep it on at night because the static noise is so great, and when I turn the monitor on the picture is pretty fuzzy and jumps in and out. Any advice?

Answer
Try unplugging any electronic devices between the transmitter and receiver, see if something is causing interference.

How to connect a PC to RCA broadband modem to a wireless router for PS3?

baby monitor hack on baby-monitor-hack
baby monitor hack image

Arson

will I need a splitter?
also,I have 2 wireless routers if a necessary detail or if the second rourer is necessary at all.

Answer
The broadband modem connects to the router port labeled WAN or Internet via a standard Ethernet patch cable that usually is included with the router.

There are usually 4 LAN ports on the router to connect PCs and other devices via Ethernet cables if need be.

Wireless connections require security configuration to prevent anyone with a WiFi in range of your router from connecting to your network. They could do malicious deeds, such as hack into your network, or just leech off of your Internet bandwidth.

Wireless setup is not too difficult, Just follow the instructions in the router manual or wizard set up program. If you're having problems either pay someone to set it up for you or find a knowledgeable friend to configure it. Once the wireless network settings are configured it's a fairly trouble-free system.

For gaming you would be much better off with a Ethernet connection.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc. All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range.

Just because a particular wireless router works good at one location does not guarantee that it will have similar performance in a different location due to variance in the factors listed above.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

By nature, interference in wireless systems causes problems with smooth, consistent speeds.

Excessive latency (ping) can cause your online games to lag. Your ping may be 30 ms and wireless interference could cause it to spike to 200 ms or more.

The best solution would be to use a wired (Ethernet) connection between your gaming device and the router. You can run Ethernet cables up to 100 meters.

MULTIPLE ROUTERS:
Unless you have experience in network configuration, it's not a good idea to use multiple routers unless you turn off the routing functions and use them as wireless access points. Your wireless signals will interfere with each other if they're operating on the same wireless channel. A router also acts as a DHCP server to assign IP addresses, you only want one DHCP service running.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is an auto configuration protocol used on IP networks. Computers that are connected to IP networks must be configured before they can communicate with other computers on the network. DHCP allows a computer to be configured automatically, eliminating the need for intervention by a network administrator. It also provides a central database for keeping track of computers that have been connected to the network. This prevents two computers from accidentally being configured with the same IP address. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_Host_Configuration_Protocol

You'll need to manually configure the second router before placing it into service. The IP address needs changed so it doesn't conflict with the first router, the DHCP functions should also be disabled on the second router.

You'll have to connect a PC or laptop directly to the second router via Ethernet and log into it's interface to change it's IP. You'll want to change this to something that doesn't conflict with the first router but is in the same subnet.

Plug a Ethernet cable from LAN port on the first router into one of the LAN ports on the second router, Don't use the second router's WAN port for anything.

Use non overlapping wireless channels such as 1, 6, 11. You can use the same SSID for everything. If you turn of the wireless radio on the first router this step is unnecessary.

For example if you main router has an IP of 192.168.1.1 and it broadcasts on channel 1.

Set your second router as an access point with an IP of 192.168.1.2 and have it broadcast on channel 6.

Although it is not absolutely necessary, I would also reserve the second router's IP in the first router's configuration or set DHCP to assign a range that doesn't include the second router. For example if your devices had the IPs listed above and you wanted to allocate up to 20 DHCP IP addresses you could set the range from 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.30. This way in case the second router were powered off for some reason DHCP would not assign 192.168.1.2 to another device which would cause an IP conflict when the second router was powered back up.

Good Luck...

How to create a WIFI network on my cable connected Desktop?

PieRated

Hey!

I am a desktop user. I am connected to the internet via an optical fiber broadband connection (Ethernet Cable). Which uses my on board NIC to hook me up on the internet. It does not come with a wireless router or anything similar to that. It is connected to the nearest Hub for my ISP and from there a direct cable connection to the back of my desktop into my LAN card. Now I have been in desperate need to create a WIFI network/hotspot to share my broadband internet with my mobile device and iPod. I have been scratching my head phone for looking for the most applicable solution for my case scenario and actually been looking thorough tons of solutions from search engines but none fits my case or isn't clear enough! So I was wondering if anyone could help me by letting me know what is it I exactly need to do to set up a private WIFI network from my Desktop to share with my other devices and also if possible what are the exact hardware I would be needing to get it done.

Thanks a lot in advance for your time and suggestion.

Regards.

Answer
Simple as 1,2,3.

1.) Buy a wireless router.

2.) Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the desktop and connect it to the router's WAN port. Also reconnect your desktop to any one of the router's multiple LAN ports via a standard Ethernet patch cable (one usually comes with the router).

3.) Configure the wireless router.

That's it.

Wireless connections require security configuration to prevent anyone with a WiFi in range of your router from connecting to your network. They could do malicious deeds, such as hack into your network, or just leech off of your Internet bandwidth which can slow your Internet connection to a crawl.

Wireless setup is not too difficult, Just follow the instructions in the router manual or wizard set up program. If you're having problems either pay someone to set it up for you or find a knowledgeable friend to configure it. Once the wireless network settings are configured it's a fairly trouble-free system.

As far as the router goes,

It pretty much comes down to what features you want and how much you want to spend.

The router brand is not as important as the model. Some manufacturers release a good model but the next is crap. I would look at the Amazon reviews of models that interest you. Even if you don't buy from Amazon the reviews will tell you a lot about which models to avoid. Look for at least 15 or more reviews with a 4 star or better rating.

For under $50, this Medialink is the most popular and highly reviewed model. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A3YN0Z0/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00A3YN0Z0&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

If you want to spend a little more, many quality dual band wireless routers are available. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&keywords=dual%20band%20router&linkCode=ur2&qid=1374595143&rh=n%3A172282%2Cn%3A541966%2Cn%3A300189%2Ck%3Adual%20band%20router%2Cp_72%3A1248879011&rnid=1248877011&tag=excharge-20

Dual band routers have multiple wireless radios enabling broadcast on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously. Using the 5 GHz band cuts down on interference from cordless phones and microwave ovens.. Not all devices can use the 5 GHz frequency. Many laptops and other devices only operate at 2.4 GHz. Thus the need for dual band routers.

In any case,

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

Wireless signals, including 2.4 and 5 GHz, are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range. As wireless connection quality varies the connection speeds are renegotiated. The WLAN connection may start at 150 Mbps and end up at less than 10 Mbps or drop entirely.

Your best bet is always a direct Ethernet connection, especially for fixed devices that don't need mobility. Ethernet is unaffected by wireless interference and will give you a rock solid, stable network connection. The wireless router has multiple LAN ports to facilitate Ethernet connections in addition to the wireless (WiFi) capabilities.

Good Luck...

Webcam / nanny cam? I would like to install a web cam that i can use as a nanny cam when i am not in the room

baby monitor nanny cam on Wireless Video Infant Monitor Nanny Cam Spy Baby Camera | eBay
baby monitor nanny cam image
Q. Is there one that can be used even though the PC may be turned off? Preferably, i'd like to monitor the activity via my laptop? Any surveillance gurus out there that can guide in the right direction?

Answer
Do you have a wireless network? I use the Linksys WVC54GC wireless video camera on one of my networks and I'm very happy with it. My only complaint is that it doesn't have night vision like a baby monitor. If you have a wireless network running, by all means use this camera, it's easy to use and you won't need to leave your PC powered up like you said because the camera has its own built-in web server. Plus, you can set up motion detection and only have it record the times when there is motion. You can even have it email you an .AVI video clip of the motion it detected, pretty cool. Should cost you about $110-120 at a BestBuy or CompUSA. If you don't have a wireless network and want to set one up (it's easy) then go with the Linksys WRT54G. If you don't want a WLAN, you have other answers above to review...

Do you (or would you) ever use a "nanny cam"?

iAnswer

It's a catch 22 for me.. See I would definitely use a nanny cam to check in on my baby during work, however I would feel super uncomfortable if I was being under servailence while babysitting. (although Id have nothing to hide)

So would it be fair to use one if I myself would feel uncomfortable? What's your thoughts on nanny cams?

Answer
We have CCTV camera's in our house anyway (I'm paranoid probably) but we also have a small camera in our Nursery that acts as a baby monitor and a "Nanny cam" as we have a little screen on the monitor that shows us the image of the room. I wouldn't like to use a visible Camera; It would make our babysitter feel uneasy, if I had any doubts about the person looking after my children, they wouldn't be looking after them. Simple. Most of the time, my sister, Niece, nephew or mother-in-law babysits for us so we don't have to worry.

Use whatever makes you feel happy. If you want to use one for the safety of your children; use one! It doesn't matter if the babysitter feels uncomfortable as long as you (and your children) are happy.

i dont kno

Can someone please tell me how to make a video baby monitor? The only problem is i dont have any fancy gadgets, like an iphone or ipad or ianything! lol.
i have an extra laptop and i have an old webcam. could this work to make a video baby monitor??
i want to be able to connect to it somehow from my laptop that iam currently using, like skyp or something??
Iam very bad with computers lol
I understand what your saying and thats why i dont want to spend any money on this. But if i can figure out a way to do it with stuff i have laying around i would like to see him, and not have to sneak into his room to see him. ( because yes i will be going in to look at him, i have from day one and i dont think that will stop for quiet awhile)

Answer
I can't help you with any of the technical stuff, but I wanted to say that video baby monitors are quite useless. Its one of those baby items that is totally unnecessary.

What's important is that you *hear* your baby wake up and cry for you. Its not important to *see* your baby - after all, you will be very, VERY tired yourself. Its not like you'll be up all night watching your baby sleep.

Video baby monitor with ip capabilities?

Jack

Twin baby girls on the way and my wife and I are looking for a video baby monitor. I would happily throw down some more dough if they made a video baby monitor with ip capabilities so I can watch them at work. I would buy just a good ip camera but I cant find anything that can link a wireless handset to it. If there are any solutions without having both a monitor and then a separate camera please let me know. Thanks.
The ip setup isnt the big deal. The problem is that we'd like to set up a portable monitor (as seen with regular vid baby monitors) to use around the house. The home portable monitor would be the primary use, while the ip settings will be my selfish way to still be with all three of my girls =)~... Let me know if theres means to accomplish =) thanks.

Answer
I have heard of a friend-of-friend who uses the following setup as a dog monitor (to watch the dog from home via webcam) which might work for you:

1. wireless IP camera setup to view whatever you're after,
2. create a skype account to run at home,
3. set the skype account to use the IP camera for video calls and
4. set the skype account to auto-answer incoming video calls.

he can then video-call from his own skype account at work to the dog's account and see what's going on throughout the day. and the camera can be moved to a new location without moving the computer.

the catch is, you can't operate the panning of the IP camera via skype. if you need this, perhaps something like Team Viewer might be better - it's a remote desktop app free for non-commercial use, that will let you remote in to your home computer and access the IP camera controls that way (Team Viewer is REAL easy to use).

for your case, I suppose you'd want sound as well, so seek out an IP camera with mic (if you want to hear them) or with both mic and speakers (if you want them to hear you too).

**Edit** Oh, I see what you mean - you want a portable receiver unit with a screen to relay the video to. I had a poke around and came up with not alot.

I can find wireless cameras with receivers (usually 4 cams + 1 receiver) - ie. glorified baby monitors,
and I can find a couple of iPhone apps to receive a signal from an IP Camera (see links below), but no IP Camera portable receiver.

Question about infant movement/breathing sensors?

Mommy to S

I just moved my 6-month old into her crib at night (she'd been in bed with us before that) and I'm a nervous wreck all night because I can't monitor her breathing.

I'm wondering about the infant movement sensors now and I want to know if it's worth it to purchase at this stage since my baby moves all over the place in her sleep. I place her at one end and by morning she's clear across the other end, curled up in the corner. Won't this set off the alarm all the time if she's not right on top of the sensor mat?

Please share your experiences and let me know if it works for your 6+ month old baby. Thanks!

Answer
The risk of SIDS at 6 months old has decreased so much. If your baby moves around a lot then no its not worth it. It might go off in the middle of night and freak you out. We have used ours since my son was about 2 months and I am thinking about putting it away since he can now roll in both directions.Yes it will set off the alarm.

Ours beeped last night like it was about to go off. It freaked me out I ran into the room and my son was clear across the crib. I just shut it off.

How common is SIDS and what can you do for prevention?

best baby monitor for 2 kids on best sellers the new york times best sellers children s books ...
best baby monitor for 2 kids image

XYZ

My baby sleeps in his crib usually on his stomach and I have a baby breathing monitor. The midwife recommended that he sleep on his stomach and he can really get a good sleep that way. What can I do to prevent SIDS? If he sleeps on my top when we are on my bed, is it safe?
I am not asleep when he is on my top so I can't roll over him. He sleeps in his crib for the night.

I told the midwife that SIDS occurs more often in cases kids are put on their stomachs but she said that's just statistics and has nothing to do with SIDS. I don't know...

Answer
SIDS occurs in roughly 1 in 500 babies(http://www.faqs.org/faqs/misc-kids/sids/), but the rate actually depends on many factors, such as where you live, your lifestyle, your feeding methods, etc.

SIDS can occur up to one year of age, but the most common age for it to occur is between 2 and 4 months. After 4 months, the risk declines. After the 6-7th month, the likelihood of SIDS occurring is very low. It is more common in male babies than female babies.

There is a lot you can do to lower the risk of it occurring.

~don't smoke. AT ALL. Not even outside.

~put your baby to sleep on his back. If he won't sleep that way, you can compromise and put him on his side, using those wedges that keep the baby from rolling over. My first daughter could not sleep on her back due to severe reflux, so we put her on her side.

~don't use pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, or any soft bedding in his crib (or wherever he sleeps)

~don't dress him too warmly

~BREASTFEED. For every 87 babies that die of SIDS, only 3 breastfed babies die of SIDS. Reference: http://www.co.utah.ut.us/dept/healthwic/BreastFeed.asp

Personally, I would not put my baby to sleep on his/her stomach, especially if if they were not past the 4 month mark. If it was needed, I would put them on their side.

As for cosleeping, there is conflicting evidence out there as to whether it lowers or raises the risk of SIDS.

Many parent's beds have blankets and pillows and soft mattress pads, etc, that can raise the risk of SIDS, so cosleeping in that sense would definitely be riskier. However, if you make your bed "baby safe", then I would think that cosleeping would not put your baby at a higher risk and may actually reduce his risk of SIDS, as long as:
~you don't smoke
~your spouse doesn't smoke
~you don't sleep too heavily (as to notice if you roll into your baby's face
~your spouse doesn't sleep too heavily
~neither you nor your spouse are overweight/obese (studies have shown that cosleeping babies with overweight/obese parents are more likely to die of SIDS or be accidentally suffocated by their parents).

As for your son sleeping on top of you, I personally think it's fine, as long as he's on his back and there's no way he can roll off and be injured. If he's on his stomach, but you're awake and watching him the entire time, then that's okay too.

I coslept with both of my daughters, but I slept on my side, and they slept on their sides with their back up against my belly/chest. I would turn them over to nurse and then turn them back when they finished.

How old was your child when you stopped using a baby monitor?

Jenn

My oldest is 25 months (just turned 2) and I still have one in her room. She's my alarm clock. When she wakes up, I get up lol. I wouldn't hear her without the monitor.

Answer
We still have monitors in my kids' rooms with the receivers down in our family room. My son is 3, and my girls (who share a room) are 6 and 7. I know that we don't really need them anymore, but it's hard to hear the kids when we're downstairs. (Our bedroom is just down the hall from their bedrooms, so I don't use a monitor from my room.)

Honestly, I use the monitors mostly during the day so that I can hear if they start to argue and need me to run interference. ;-) It's also nice at night when the kids go to bed and we're still up so that we can hear if they need anything without them having to scream for us. We've talked about getting rid of them before, but the kids kinda use them as (one-way) intercoms now, so we've just left them.

Baby monitor with web connection where the in home monitor will work even if my internet goes down?

Jennifer

I am looking for a reliable video baby monitor that I can view on my computer at work, but that is independent in that it will continue to work as a monitor even if my internet connection goes down.
I already found one , the Sassy Web Watch Video Monitor, so I know they exist. I am looking for more options...

Answer
I think you are a bit in the future. Internet connections have to come from somewhere. Do you know how expensive a camera with its own internet connection would be? My home comcast goes down. My cell phone's 3G goes down. Even if you get a dedicated T1 line to your house it can and will still have down time.

Usually holes in the internet services are less then a minute long. While I realize a lot can happen in 1 minute, I doubt your nanny will be wonderful the whole day then magically know the net is down and start beating your kid.

Is it possible to buy a scanner?

koolaid123

Can you buy a scanner that tunes into frequency's such as the police radios. i've herd that some can pick up cordless phones, cell phones and baby Monitors. that kind of scares me because people can listen into my conversations. i asked this question to get a general idea of just how many people have these out there.

Answer
Most cordless phones and cell phones can not be monitored by scanners, even if the scanner was modified to receive their frequencies. Modern cell phones and cordless phones utilize digital and/or encryption technology which can not be monitored by any scanner available to the common citizen. However, some older cordless phones can be monitored.

Wifi signal keeps dropping.?

baby monitor keeps losing signal on , addicted to love, online, on line, on-line, internet, connection ...
baby monitor keeps losing signal image

Sway

The signal strength is excellent, but i lose the connection every five minutes. i'm using a toshiba satellite a665 laptop, the router is a nexxt nebula. please help.

Answer
Most Wi-Fi wireless home networks transmit their signals in a narrow radio frequency range around 2.4 GHz. Various other electronic devices in a home, such as cordless phones, garage door openers, baby monitors, and microwave ovens, may also use this same frequency range. Any such device can interfere with a wireless home network, slowing down its performance and potentially breaking network connections.

So, all you need to do now is to browse to the address of your router, which is probably set to http://192.168.1.1. Enter in the password that you hopefully remember, and head to the Wireless â> Advanced Wireless Settings tab. Then change the channel. Channels 1, 6, and 11 are the most common channels to choose, and most routers will use one of them as the default channelâbut the general idea is to be as far away from everybody else as you can. So, you can choose channel 9.

Setting this Wi-Fi channel number appropriately provides one way to avoid sources of wireless interference and wireless connections dropping out.

My laptop keeps saying identifying.?

I have no idea what to do tried resetting my router and modem multiple times. My brother uses the laptop the most and it's my moms and she needs it for help with work.
So I tried disconnection rebooting and tried with the ISP(internet service provider and linksys) for hours and they don't even know so I came on here for some help.
So what I need is step by step instructions on what to do i'm lost this is the first time I have ever seen this happen.

Ps. I have a wrt54g2 V1 wireless linksys router it's 2 1/2 years old.

Answer
Your issue can be of multiple causes however a key fact you provided it that the router is 2 1/2 years old. Most home routers last 2-3 years, 5 if your lucky then start to go bad unfortunately. Sounds like the laptop is attempting to obtain the IP information such as the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address but can't quite connect. Either worst case scenario is that the router is going bad or the NIC on the laptop is going bad or the wireless adapter on the lap top is bad which requires troubleshooting.

First is the connection wireless or a wired connection?
I assume wireless since it is a laptop. Double check the hardware in your Device Manager to see if the hardware status is such: "This device is working properly."
If not it is possible the driver may need to be re-installed.
If it working properly then consider the lack of signal strength and quality that can cause this. Obstructions like walls, windows and cabinets, etc can weaken the wireless signals. Also interference like cordless phones, baby monitors, other nearby wireless routers operating at the same frequency such as 2.4Ghz.

How did the cat know what to do?

baby monitor breathing on New Snuza Go Baby Breathing / Movement Monitor - helps prevent ...
baby monitor breathing image

horsegirl

I saw a documentary on miraculous rescues by pets, and one stands out in my mind. The baby was sleeping upstairs in his room, while the parents were downstairs. They had the baby monitor on. When the baby began having trouble breathing, and the noises were too quiet to be heard on the monitor, the cat actually made strange noises over the baby monitor to get the parents' attention.

How did the cat know to use the baby monitor?

Answer
The cat may have been distressed because it sensed that the baby was in trouble. The cat could simply have been reacting to its own distress. I doubt that the cat had any idea that it could be heard over the baby monitor.

What is the best baby monitor?

Molli

We're welcoming a new edition in a few weeks and we have everything ready to go except the baby monitor. We live in a one story home and I would only need the monitor for when the baby's sleeping. All the bedrooms are on the same side of the house but I always take extra precautions. Thanks so much!

Answer
We got an Angelcare movement monitor and I swear by it. I'm a very anxious mom and it helped me get some sleep! Knowing that an alarm would go off if he stopped breathing was the only thing that stopped me from checking in on the baby 10 times a night. ;)

edit: The monitor was suggested by my son's neonatal surgeon, as he was premature...
