should I have accepted this Ebay return?

Buyer:Hello, I purchased the baby monitor received yesterday. This monitor dose not work and I want a full refund. Please advise me what I should do. Thanks, Mark

Me:Does it work when its plugged in to the wall? Have you checked the channels?

Buyer:It works if you shine a floodlight on the baby and it still is not very clear, very unhappy, Sure dosn't work like discribed or the photo image on display.

Me:I'll see what I can do because I do not have enough money right now to issue a refund. Images in the picture are simulated just as they are on anything with a screen(ex: psp, ipod etc). The thing is, it does work, I do not own one of the cameras so I am not sure of the quality of the screen. The camera clearly does not have infrared which would mean that the camera would require light. It does work as described, but what it sounds like to me is buyers remorse. I gave a description of what is on the box which is "Baby Monitor" and thats what I would think I am sending out because of the manufacturer. The description does state that the camera requires 3 LUX (at F2.8), which is the amount of light needed for good image reproduction.

From the page:
Return policy
Item must be returned within: 3 Days
Refund will be given as: Money Back
Return shipping will be paid by: Buyer
Return policy details: Returns only accepted if the product does not work.

Buyer:I do not have buyerâs remorse⦠I just wanted a monitor that works as described, it definitely dose not. It dose not transmit clear crisp video or even close. I am very disappointed with this product! My neighbor has a different brand and it works great, I was expecting similar.

Me:Would you accept a partial refund of $25 and keeping the item? That is all I can do at the moment because of high ebay seller fees.

Buyer:No thank you I do not want to keep an item that doesn't serve it's purpose. From what you're saying the baby monitor should have a descent picture quality, and it doesn't. Not even in the conditions that you wrote either (3lux). I'm willing to wait a little longer if it takes to receive a refund, and I will pay for the shipping for the items return to you. According to your policy if the item doesn't work then I receive my refund. Point blank the item doesn't work it's defective. Now if you had another brand of baby monitor I would be willing to trade, but it seems as if you don't. So please comply and be descent enough to do as your policy states. Please foward your address.
Thank you.

What do you think????
My policy states that they are accepted if the item does not work.

He said that the item does work but it doesnt meet his expectations.

Answer
I would accept it, wouldn't want to have bad ratings and ruin my reputation as a seller over this one time the person is not happy with the purchase.

Do you use a reuglar baby monitor or a video one?

Mrs Cleave

I bought a video monitor at walmart and it was horrible full of static and it would black out etc. For $100 what can you expect I guess, but do you know where I can get a good one? Price doesnt matter. Have you had any good experiences with them or do you like the old fashioned ones better?

Answer
We bought a video but it broke. I prefer the regular one because you can't see them breathing anyway. Plus you would be looking at them all the time instead of getting your rest.

What items can i buy for a newborn that is coming in February now?

KidKurious

My babys coming in February 2009. I had an idea to buy things like diapers, formula. wet wipes etc. a little every week, so that by the time the baby is born, i will have a stockpile of things so I wouldnt be spending so much later on.

what can i buy now that will last the next few months (little things not a crib or car seat of course) that will last?

Answer
little things 2 buy as u go...girl or boy?

baby kit with thermometer, clippers, hairbrush, comb ,etc--some of these can be bought 2gether or sep

baby monitor
onesies
socks
receiving blankets (would only buy a few if u r having a shower)
baby washclothes/towels
passys
avent formula divider cup 4 when u r out and need 2 feed baby; can be switched 2 a snack cup later
if ff bottles
bottle brushes
drying rack
dr brown's formula pitcher--great 2 keep out bubbles instead of shaking
snuzzler
swaddle me, by kiddopotamus, only 10 bucks at babies r us--easier and baby cant kick out
bibs
couple thicker blankets
diaper bag
a few sleepers with material suited 2 your area--good 4 baby 2 wear at home if cooler, onesies better if it is warmer in your home
crib sheets
waterproof lap pads (gerber is my pref, carters didn't seem as well made)
waterproof mattress protector
if u will be getting a bassinet and/or play yard u can buy wp pads and sheets 4 them
and 4 crib, check out 'the ultimate crib sheet'
bouncy seat/swing--prices vary greatly and u could get them 2nd hand
boppy--good for feeding either way, holding, baby sitting in, tummy time
boppy covers--cotton ones are cheaper and they fit better
changing table pad and covers
bins or baskets to organize things under table
baby hangers, baby hangers with the clips for outfits
clothes hamper
diaper genie2
refills
small infant toys
teether toys
wipewarmer
diaper depot
baby meds--generics are cheaper and just as good--tylenol, mylicon for now
desitin regular, not creamy (more zinc oxide than anything else i can find)
frag/dye free laundry detergent and baby wash
don't buy too much formula in case u need 2 switch :)
play mat with a toy bar, prices vary greatly here too
mirror for baby in car so that u can see them in your rearview
sunshades for car windows
lingerie bag for washing those little baby socks
baby sleep sacks
hand mittens so baby doesn't scratch their face up
hats since it will be cold and babies esp lose a lot of body heat through their head
*not sure where you are, but when you buy up diapers, make sure that wherever you buy them will let you exchange them for a diff size if needed after their return period is up bc it is gonna be a while before you know exactly what size you will need the most of...i bought the huge boxes at babies r us bc per diaper they were the cheapest i could find and i asked and they said it would be ok to exchange and i had too and they let me, walmart will too, but they don't carry the big boxes..by buying the big boxes of swaddlers, i save a ton! i looked at the grocery store and luvs would be more expensive per diaper if i bought them there, i guess bc they didn't have the big boxes, but i have never seen a big box of those anywhere
if you are having a shower you may get most or all of this stuff at your shower, so if you are having one, i would hold off on things that you wouldn't want duplicates of that you can't return....some things, doesn't matter, you will use them eventually, others, not so good...alll i can think of right now...LOL, sorry for the book, but i hope it gives you some ideas, most aren't necessitites, but are really nice to have..good luck

Is it possible to get radio interference through the baby monitors?

Jaime

Lately ive been hearing music coming through the baby monitor but when i go into the babys room to inspect the recieving monitor, i hear no music in the room, nor do i hear our neighbors on the other side of with wall. Sometimes i hear country and others i hear piano or some other musical instrament. Can the monitors pick up other radio waves other than their own? Ive been stumped trying to figure this out, it has the hubby spooked cuz when we moved in, our stereo had a habit of turning on in the middle of the night.

Answer
It is unlikely that your baby monitor is picking up music via radio broadcasts directly since the frequencies are typically very different.

However, it is very possible that a neighbor has a baby monitor using the same frequency as yours and you are listening to their music via their baby monitor transmitter (in their baby's room).

Some monitors have an A/B switch on them to change frequencies - if so, try changing both your Transmitter and Receiver units.

i have the Angelcare 401 sound and movement monitor.. i love it! it was about $200 so a little pricey, but i think its come down in price since they brought out the model with the video. i wouldnt waste your money on the video monitors. the movement sensor pads are fantastic so go for one with those, but you dont need the video.

We have the AngelCare monitor, but when it is on, we get terrible static. It may be interference with some Plantronics 900 mghz headseat phones we need for work. Is there a brand that works on a different frequency?

Answer
We use a 5.8ghz cordless phone rather then a baby monitor. It doesn't have the same problems that a baby monitor would since it's on a different frequency. Great reception, only problem is we can't use the telephone while monitoring.

I have 4 bottle babies I would like to monitor while I am at work to see what they are up to and I have an iMac with the iCam inside. Is there a way to set it up so I can view the puppies from my work computer?

Answer
You can download Orb for Mac here:
http://corp.orb.com/download/Orb20Setup.dmg
which will let you stream just about anything from your computer (including a webcam) to a browser, your phone, gaming console, etc.
As long as your work doesn't block it, you can get to the stream by logging into mycast.orb.com and opening the stream with your work computer's video player, like windows media player on windows.
If it is blocked and you have a capable phone, like an iPhone, BlackBerry, etc. you can watch it there.

What is the problem with my toshiba satellite and what are my options?

Heber

I have an older Toshiba Satellite running Vista, I think its like an '07 laptop (if I remember correctly). I want to look through all my pictures and transfer them onto my new HP Windows 8 laptop. I run into the issue that my lap top's monitor will not cut on, however the laptop itself is on (due to the fact that the power light is lit and you can hear the fan working, and the cd tray retracts when I push the button). Now, I have tried to connect the Toshiba to my tv through s video and vga, it didn't work. And now I tried my vga to my HP (I haven't tried usb from computer to computer). Here's the thing, I connect my iphone with the charging cable to my HP and it began to charge, however when I did the same on my Toshiba it would not charge. I am now beginning to think it is a deeper problem than just the monitor. I need to know if my monitor is not working for the same reason my ports are not working, what may have caused this issue, and finally what are my options? I cannot lose these picture because they are of my 3 year old daughter's baby pics and these are the only ones I have.

Also, this laptop has spent about a year turned off collecting dust, even when it is off for a day the battery is completely out of juice so I have to charge it every time I want to attempt to turn it on. I want to know my options from cheapest to more expensive; further, acquiring the pictures so that I can have them on my new computer and printing them is the only thing i care about, getting music and docs that I have is not important but would be nice to have.

Answer
Turn your Toshiba laptop over ad remove the Hard Drive from the compartment.
It will probably be IDE type so you can get a caddy for it and then connect that HD to your new laptop and copy your data over to your new system.
Once our done getting all your files then FORMAT the "old" HD this will then give you an external storage device that you can use to keep your important files on if you want.

What baby monitor do you have? Are you happy with it?

baby monitor reviews on Wirless Security Camera Systems And Baby Monitor Systems | How To Save ...
baby monitor reviews image

Beth

This has been a toughie for me and hubby. The reviews on all baby monitors are very mixed, and neither brand nor price really seem to have anything to do with whether or not people like a monitor. Just wondering what you have and use, and maybe what you've used in the past. What have your experiences been like with those brands?

Answer
We picked up a used 'first years' one at a garage sale...it works fine...but our rooms are so close together at one end of the house, that we wind up just turning it off.

My sister used an 'Angelcare' one...it works fine too...

They're generally all pretty good...it just depends on whether you want 'bells and whistles' with it or not.

What is the best video baby monitor out there?

Q. I'm looking for a video monitor that can have several different cameras (need it to monitor at least two rooms). I have read reviews on many, many brands and products but they are all so contradictory. Any advice from someone who has one and either loves it or doesn't like it would be very helpful.
Can you be more specific....there are a lot of different Summer Infant video monitors. Why do you like it?

Answer
Summer is the one we have and we love it..

What is wrong with my connection speed and how can i fix it?

baby monitor ethernet on Baby Monitors as Spy Equipment? Dont Laugh, Its True
baby monitor ethernet image

rich

-My internet service provider is optimum.
-I have a wireless router (purchased last year) and a modem (upgraded last year as well).

My actual internet seems to be fine but the problem is downloading, uploading, and playing online games (xbox live). My connection was great up until a week ago, where I began lagging in every online game I played, which was unbearable, and nearly impossible. I use Netflix frequently which seems to be very slow as well, along with downloading any program on my laptop (wont download), uploading videos to youtube (have done it once since the problem occurred but took about 5 hours+ to upload), and I really need to know what can possibly be done to fix this.

I have also tried testing my connection on sites such as speedtest.net and speakeasy.net and came to the conclusion that my ping is at 10ms, download speed is at .81mbps and my upload speed is at .06mbps. im not very tech savyy but im pretty sure that is not very good. any help would be great! thanks!

Answer
Ping is super.

Download and upload speeds suck, big time.

What speed are you paying for?

Optimum is a cable Internet provider, Most cable Internet plans are 10 Mbps+ with offerings in some areas in excess of 300 Mbps.

Unless that is a super budget 768 Kbps plan, You need to try and power cycle your equipment.

Connect a PC or laptop directly to one of the router LAN ports via Ethernet and follow these steps in this specific order.

1. Unplug power cables on the router and modem.

2. Plug in the modem and wait a minute or two to establish a Internet connection.

3. Plug in the router.

4. Reboot your computer to have the router DHCP service assign a new IP address to your computer.

5. You can test your Internet connection speed here: http://speedtest.net

If the Ethernet Internet connection works fine then try the wireless connections.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range. As wireless connection quality varies the connection speeds are renegotiated. The connection may start at 54 Mbps and end up at less than 20 Mbps.

Just because a particular wireless router works good at one location does not guarantee that it will have similar performance in a different location due to variance in the factors listed above.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

As I described above wireless connection quality can vary dramatically, for gaming this can cause lag in online games. Your latency (ping) may be 30 ms and wireless interference could cause it to spike to 200 ms or more. Wireless connections also have more overhead involved in the transfer of data such as the encryption / decryption used for wireless security.

The best solution would be to use a wired (Ethernet) connection between your gaming device and the router.

If it is not feasible to run cables you have other options such as powerline network adapters You plug one in by the router and one in the room where you need access and connect them to the devices with standard Ethernet patch cables. http://isp1.us/reviews/netgear-xavb2101-powerline-adapter/

The network signals are transmitted over your existing home electrical wiring which will not be affected by wireless interference.

In my opinion for a gaming connection I would run Ethernet or use powerline adapters.

However, if you need the wireless mobility there are various other ways to extend a Internet connection to areas with a weak wireless signal.

Devices such as wireless extenders that can expand your wireless range if need be. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YAYM06/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=excharge-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004YAYM06

The wireless range extender receives weak wireless signals and repeats them to extend the signal range to greater distances. Some models include 4 Ethernet ports in addition to the wireless radio.

Good Luck...

How do I use an old router as a wireless adapter?

Nathan

We recently moved, and our desktop PC is in a room that doesn't have any access for the internet, and the closest connections we have are on the other sides of the house. Is there a way i can use an old router as an adapter of sorts on my desktop so i dont have to run a LAN connection all the way across the house or pay for an adapter?

Answer
Depending on the router model, you might be able to configure it as a wireless bridge, http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57529336-285/reuse-an-old-router-to-bridge-devices-to-your-wireless-network/ but for the bother, power consumption, performance, etc. You would be better served with an inexpensive USB WiFi adapter.

It is easy to add WiFi to a desktop. You can get a wireless adapter for your desktop PC, they are very inexpensive. Many are under 10 bucks. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&tag=excharge-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=wireless%20adapter%20for%20desktop&url=search-alias%3Daps&sprefix=wireless%20a%2Caps%2C377 There are two types, the easiest is a USB that just plugs in, the other is a card that involves opening the PC and installing in a card slot.

Unless you specifically need a wireless connection, I would not recommend it especially for a fixed device such as a desktop PC.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

Wireless connection quality also varies and there is overhead involved in the transfer such as the encryption and decryption of the data used for wireless security.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

For serious gaming or video streaming your best bet is a direct Ethernet connection. Ethernet is unaffected by wireless interference and will give you a rock solid, stable network connection.

If it is not feasible to run Ethernet cable your next best option is to use powerline network adapters. I wrote a review here: http://isp1.us/reviews/netgear-xavb2101-powerline-adapter/

Good Luck...
