I went for my first ultrasound yesterday and I'm six weeks?

NeedANswer

they didn't hear the heart beat so they are making me come back in a week...is something wrong? they did an internal ultrasound too

Answer
no nothing to worry about it can still happen easily - its heart doesnt start beating until week 5-7 (then you can see it beat on ultrasound) but you cant hear it accurately and prominently until on average 12 weeks with fetal heart monitor...

At weeks 5-7 your baby's heart and circulatory system are taking shape. Your baby's blood vessels will complete a circuit, and his or her heart will begin to beat. Although you won't be able to hear it yet, the motion of your baby's beating heart may be detected with an ultrasound exam - looks like a flicker on the ultrasound screen-but 6 weeks may be to early, may have to wait until the 7th week as all babies develop at slightly different speeds !

At about 12 weeks you can hear it on baby heart monitor (doppler)

If a baby is born 6 weeks early?

Q. If a baby is born 6 weeks early would he be in an incubator? Or what would some complications be? Help please

Answer
Most of the time, babies born 6 wks early start in an open bed with a heater, then to the incubator after they're stable enough and don't have to be messed with as much and then after they're able to maintain their body temperature they're moved to an open crib. My daughter was just born at 34 wks and she was 3 lbs 11 oz at birth and had very few complications. Being that early, they do tend to breathe a little faster and may struggle a little bit, but NICU staff are highly trained to handle those types of situations. All of my kids have been 6 weeks or more early. Usually they're stable enough to come home by their original due date...they just need a little extra attention is all and usually are required to come home on an apnea monitor to keep track of their breathing and heart function. You'll get cpr training and everything you need to take care of a preemie at home before you're allowed to take them home.

Has anyone used a video baby monitor?

Pregnant w

How do they work?
What are the pros and cons?
I am thinking about buying one that you can have two monitors and see two rooms at once and was wondering how many people prefer it.

Answer
Congrats on baby #2!

I couldn't live with out my video monitor!! I have the Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor. The picture is so clear both at night and during the day. I love being able to check on my baby with out waking her. I don't even have to get out of bed unless she really needs me! I think if I only had the audio, I would have been getting up a lot more often to investigate every sound, especially during the first few months. The handheld part has a button on top so you can turn off the video screen if the light bothers you at night. Then if you hear something you feel you need to check on, simply click the button and the video comes back on. I read the reviews for this product. Many people say they could not get a signal. I never had a problem. I also read that they can interfere with wi-fi. My husband is a web developer... he never would have allowed wi-fi interference!

I highly recommend this monitor to all my friends. The only con I can think of is that I have had to change the channel due to static. Seriously, it's a flick of a button and I've had to do it maybe 3 times in 7 months. No biggie! I know you can get an extra camera for this monitor, but I don't need one yet. Here is what one person commented: "We bought a second camera to go with the monitor we already had. I love being able to switch back and forth between my two kids' rooms. Only issue is if the monitor is too close to one camera, you can have interference when trying to check on the other one."

Hope this helps.

Fisher price baby monitors are really good. I had a safety first one given to me as a shower gift and it never worked right, it was always fuzzy. I eventually went out and bought a cheap fisher price one and it works great.

Baby Checklist?

Q. My husband and I have a ton of things prepared for the baby, but I can't help but feel like I'm forgetting/missing items.

What else am I missing?

Crib
Changing station
Dresser
Car seat
Stroller
Play-pen
Play-yard
Clothing
Diaper bags
Bottles
Chew toys
Stuffed animals
Blankets
Bath tub

Answer
baby monitor -- ideally one with two portable receivers, so you can keep one in your bedroom and one somewhere else in the house (and so you can carry the second one around with you depending on your needs)

diapers/wipes -- don't stock up on too many diapers in the newborn size as most babies outgrow those extremely quickly; have some on hand, and some in the next size (size 1). Even so I wouldn't stock up on too many, you may find that one brand fits your baby better depending on how she's/he's built.

baby carrier -- like the baby bjorn. This can be much more pleasant and convenient than a stroller, good for bonding, and can also be helpful at home if you want to carry your baby a lot at home, either due to parenting philosophy, colic, or whatever. (You can get a front carrier, a hip sling, etc.)

you didn't mention clothing -- onesies, socks, and *hats* -- most body heat is lost from the head...even for those of us who have hair!

bottles/formula -- many moms will disagree with me, but I'm a firm believer in having one bottle and one small can of formula on hand even if you're positive you're going to be breastfeeding. I've known just enough moms who had completely unanticipated problems to believe it's worth a few bucks to buy those items if it can even possibly prevent a new parent from freaking out because the baby is starving and won't latch and there's a freak storm preventing you from getting to the store at 4 am.... But that's me.

Swaddler or Sleep Sack -- you don't want to use blankets with little babies for safety reasons, and swaddling is shown to help with sleeping, fussiness, etc. (The best by far, I've found, is the "Miracle Blanket.")

"medical stuff" -- bulb syringe, thermometer, baby nose drops, gas drops, infant tylenol drops (you never want to give it to your newborn without your doctor telling you to, but you want to have it on hand should you need it), baby nail clipper and baby nail files, gentle baby wash for baths, vaseline (if you have a rectal thermometer, and/or to care for a circumcision site if applicable)

washcloths/towels (the hooded ones are great for babies)

gauze and alcohol, or alcohol swabs -- for the umbilical cord stump (your doctor may recommend you let it dry naturally though, so check)

diaper cream of some sort

pacifiers -- the hospital will probably give you some of the "Soothie" variety, which a lot of parents recommend anyway (and they're one piece so nothing can break off and become a choking hazard)

you listed the crib, so I'm assuming that means you also have crib mattress, mattress protector, and sheets.

not necessary immediately, but I really recommend a boppy pillow -- some women like using it to nurse, but more than that it can be a tremendous help with getting an infant to deal with tummy time!

I agree that you'll probably want a swing or bouncy seat, but you don't need it immediately. If you're registering that's a good type of item to register for. (If you buy your own: get a bouncy seat that vibrates if you get a bouncy; if you get a swing get one that can easily be changed from side/side (cradle) swinging to front/back swinging, and preferably with music options and gizmos to look at.)

That's all I can think of right now.

Congratulations, and good luck!

What baby monitor are you using/buying? ?

Q. Like everything else, i'm getting so confused in choosing products for baby (#1) Lol.
Any ideas are great help.
Thanks.

Answer

Home security system vs baby monitor?

rachkw81

We are having Baby #2 in a couple of months and we live in a 2-story home, with our bedroom and main living on a different floor than the children's bedrooms. I want to be able to monitor each of my children in their own rooms by seeing and hearing them at the same time. I am also interested in monitoring them in the playroom. Has anyone found that a home security camera system to be more effective or affordable than a traditional baby monitor? If so, what is it like for you and which system did you use? Geeky dweebs and nerds are especially encouraged to reply with help.

Answer
To be honest, many baby video monitors can offer what you need. You can buy the parent unit and add more cameras as you need to monitor different rooms. I would take a look at the Samsung SEW-3037W. You can view up to 4 rooms at the same time using 4 cameras, via split screen on the parent unit. The night vision quality is good, it works over a large range and you can pan, zoom and tilt with the cameras

Can anyone recommend a good baby video monitor with pan/tilt feature?

Q.

Answer
The Samsung SEW-3037W is a great video monitor with pan/tilt and zoom features. It also comes with night vision, good quality audio and good battery life. You might also want to consider the Levana Astra. This model has really good battery life.

The Motorola MBP36 is also a popular choice, but I think the above mentioned models are better

We are looking for a really good quality baby monitor and we want one that has nightvision (or infrared or whatever it's called) I've sen some that monitor the baby in the dark but most of them have LEDs on the camera. I don't want to shine a flood light on my baby at night. We just want something that works in the dark without a light. Can anybody recommend a good monitor?
Thanks! :o)

I work retail and for the past 3 years I've been recommending this product

* 2.36" color LCD monitor (Large and portable monitor display)
* Features built-in night light and lullabies to soothe baby
* Digital wireless technology means no interference (90% ofbaby monitors uses MHZ wavelenght in order to receive their signal or sound but they will fail because cordless phone, microwave ovens, car remote receivers and or garage door remotes just to name a few uses MHZ an eventually you monitor will stop working because it start getting the signal from the other appliances )
*Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) for privacy (because its digital it can't be picked up by
other digital accesories around your house or neighbors)
* Auto exposure on camera (no blurry shots)
* Maximum Distance: 500' line of sight (you can be 500ft away from baby)
* Automatic night vision activation on camera (nothing to explain here)
* Includes rechargeable battery (awesome feature)

Baby Monitor Question?

Brenda B

My sister recently bought a baby monitor and I know people have picked up phone conversations in the past with them so how do I do it?

Answer
You cannot really "make it happen" - they pick up phone conversations if they are on the same frequency . . . but it does not happen all that often. If she has a simple monitor, it either will or it won't pick anything up . . . if she has a fancier one there may be different channels that you can try.

Ours only picks up the signal from the nursery or static - we have never had anything else come through.

Would a baby monitor be good for an EVP listener ?

Q.

Answer
Baby monitors have neither the sensitivity nor range requirements for picking up audio that even inexpensive digital recorders have. Add into the mix the potential for static due to normal radio interference and the tendency for EMF fields to exist where a ghost is, and you have a recipe for not being able to pick up anything.

A decent digital recorder that works can be found several places online for under US$50 plus shipping.

Does anyone know a good quality brand baby monitor but not expensive.?

What Is a good Baby Monitor?

I've been looking on amazon for a baby monitor but it seems like all the reviews i read contradict each other. i was hoping someone could compare the experiences they had with baby monitors and talk about which brands they loved or hated

Answer
Hi Pam,

It depends on your budget and what you want from a baby monitor. Basically there are three ways of monitoring; audio, video, or movement sensing. Generally the cheaper baby monitors are just audio ones, and the more expensive options use video. For under $100, I can recommend the Angelcare Baby Movement and Sound Monitor or for a video monitor, the Levana Jena. For higher end baby monitors, the Samsung SEW-3037W and the Levana Astra are both good choices.

baby monitor scare?

my husband and i recently purchased a new home unlike our old home our 8 month olds room is located on a different floor. So we had to use our baby monitor (which was a gift from my baby shower) for the first time. And at about 7 am this morning I was woken by the voice of a woman trying to calm down a crying baby! Needless to say i took off as fast as I could to my baby's room only to find him fast asleep! I then realized one of my neighbors apparently has the same monitor and mine was picking up there conversation. So the question here is i'm in the market for a new monitor cause I don't want to pick up another baby's cries throughout the night or vis versa any suggestions? Are the one's that have the video attachment worth the extra money? Thanks for the help.
No, the neighbors house is not 2 feet away, we do live in town but houses aren't really close together, besides most up to date baby monitors do have a descent range on them.

Answer
I agree with the other posters about switching channels first before buying another one. We have a video monitor and we love it. It gives me a peace of mind being able to watch him. Sometimes there are just plain weird noises coming from the monitor, and I like being able to switch on the video part of the monitor and watch him instead of having to sneak in his room, risking waking him up or making him upset.

But, it was expensive ($100), and we got it as a gift. If you're strapped for money, you can do without it, but it sure is nice to have if your budget allows for it!

What's the best baby monitor? I have trouble with static.?

delouse

We have the AngelCare monitor, but when it is on, we get terrible static. It may be interference with some Plantronics 900 mghz headseat phones we need for work. Is there a brand that works on a different frequency?

Answer
We use a 5.8ghz cordless phone rather then a baby monitor. It doesn't have the same problems that a baby monitor would since it's on a different frequency. Great reception, only problem is we can't use the telephone while monitoring.

Hubby cant hear the baby cry at night? Help suggestion?

Katy

My hubby is good durring the day if i need help but at night he does not wake up to the baby crying. Usualy this isnot a problem but i wanted to get up early to go to the sales tomorow and dont want to drag baby out of bed into the cold to do this. My hubby wont be able to hear him to get up with him. so i have to stay home, any suggestions on solding this problem with him not being able to hear him cry. the monitor is turned all the way up in our bedroom, i dont have a problem hearing him, he is 3 months old and has a good set of lungs, i hear him start to stir and wake up, but hubby cant or wont do this, even when he is crying he cant or wont hear him....HELP please

Answer
There are products made for deaf and hard-of-hearing parents that are baby monitors with vibration or flashing lights that go off when the baby cries. I am deaf, although only 17 and of course not yet a parent, but I know many deaf parents who use products like these and they work very well. I use a vibrating alarm clock to wake up, and my brother (he's hearing) is a really heavy sleeper, and the vibrating alarm clock is the only thing that wakes him up!
Here's a website: http://www.harriscomm.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=38_1140_44_1086
you can also look on google for more products.
This might not help for tomorrow morning, but if your hubby is a really heavy sleeper, this would be a good investment for next time you're in a situation like this. Plus, you won't always have to be the one to get out of bed!
Good luck.

What is the best baby monitor and car seat for newborn?

green thum

Answer
Car Seats:

The ones I would recomend are Britax Companion, Graco Snugride, and Graco Safeseat.

The Britax Companion is Rated #1 on Consumer reports. It is made in London and thus adhears to European standerds (they're a little bit higher then American standerds). The Car Seat can hold a child up to 22lbs or 30 inches long (whichever comes 1st). The actual carrier itself weighs about 10 lbs. The car seat has a rebound bar on it to avoid the cacooning of the child in a car accident.

The Graco Snugride is a very basic design. The carrier weighs 8 lbs and can hold a child up to 22 lbs or 29 inches long.

The Graco Safeseat just came out this year. It weighs 10 lbs but it can hold a child up to 30 lbs or 32 inches long which should get you at least through the first year (the other two will on average get you to about 9 months).

Some people like Evenflo infant car seats but I don't because I feel like the erganomic handle makes it harder to carry as the child get's heavier.

Monitor:

Avoid Fisher Price. They break a lot. I would say the Sony 900mhz 27 channel monitor. You will avoid a lot of interfearance.

Hope this info helps :-)

Wireless multiple IP camera DVR for Baby Monitoring?

Q. I am potentially going to hire a nanny to watch my daugher for about 4-5 hours, 2x per week while my wife works. I want to wire the house with some cameras, but since I only rent, I want to use a wireless IP camera system. Ideally, it would have 4 to 6 cameras with at least one night vision camera, wireless IP connections, viewable anywhere via IP, and the ability to record the data streams to a hard drive. Does anyone have any good ideas of a relatively inexpensive system to put in place?

I've looked at the FOSCAM wireless IP camera (http://www.amazon.com/Foscam-Wireless-Camera-antennas-FI8918W/dp/B004UMN6VE/ref=sr_1_sc_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1326384639&sr=8-3-spell). I could buy 4 cameras, but I don't know how the recording works. I'd rather not have to setup a computer with their software to record the data streams. I'd rather procure an alternate DVR system that records automatically.

Answer
Sure - and one of these hidden cameras wont find it's way into your bedroom. :)

Look - VCR's are sub-standard def and they dont make inexpensive HD tape recorders. And a lot of people want to not only record - but be able to log into the home computer and see what is going on remotely. This means ... a computer.

Try checking out WOOT.COM . I occasionally see a wireless security camera system for a low price. (Look in the Community section for past woots).

Or contact your local spy-shop. They sometimes rent nanny-cams.

Please help! Have troubles finding baby monitor! Any suggestions?

t1nk_58

Okay, i have been searching for weeks for a good baby monitor that has video, operates with a 2.4 ghz or dect so there is minimal interference. Either a portable audio or the video itself is portable. Prefer the camera to be wall mountable but if its necessary we can make do with out. Doesn't have to have anything special like lullabies or night lights or anything. But something with a good range as well and indicator for out of range and battery life would be great. And doesn't cost a couple of hundred dollars???? I would really really really like to find something like this but apparently it doesn't exist? Almost every video monitor i come across has bad reviews somewhere. :( Any help would be great. A name to look up? where to get it? I have been searching Amazon, Walmart, Baby's R' Us, target, etc. Maybe i need to be a little lenient on something? idk. HELP please!

Answer
A cheaper alternative may be one without a video monitor, but with a sensor pad instead. I've got a Tommee Tippee one and it clicks each time baby moves, and will sound an alarm if no movement is detected in 20 seconds. It is reassuring, but not a necessity. You can get by just fine with a standard monitor, you'll go up and check on baby when you hear them anyway.
