What baby monitor do you recommend?

best baby monitor night vision on ... Digital Video Baby Monitor with Color Changing Night Light (LV-TW301
best baby monitor night vision image

J D

We are shopping for a baby monitor for our second child (our first is 6 now so we long ago got rid of her baby things). We plan to "room in" (have baby in our room in a pack n' play) for the first 6 months or so like we did with our daughter, so this monitor will be used primarily during naps and after the baby has passed the most critical SIDS risk phase. With that in mind, which monitor would you suggest and why? TIA!

Answer
I use a motorola video baby monitor and its quite great. It's night vision is pretty good.

What kind of baby monitor did you use?

Q. There seems to be a million different types out now. Ones that just monitor sound, ones with big LCD video screens, ones with handheld LCD screens, night vision, motion detection, etc etc.

Which one did you use?

Answer
i didnt use one

Do i need Phone signal bars for wifi?

baby monitor 3g on Dissertations Sur L'arche De No, Et Sur L'hemine Et La Livre De S ...
baby monitor 3g image

Sergio

I recently got wifi and I connected it to my phone because it loads pages and games slow cause I always have 0-2 phone signal bars which don't help the 3g network with internet so I thought wifi would eliminate that problem

On some apps it works fine but then it randomly says I have no internet connection when I clearly have a full wifi signal bar and I'm literally 8ft away from wifi box. Do I really need my phone signal bars for my internet to work legitly?

My wifi bars are full and my phone signals are low

Answer
No,

The amount of cellular signal strength you have on the phone has absolutely nothing to do with a WiFi connection.

You could use a phone's Internet functions via WiFi with no cellular signal whatsoever.

That being said,

By nature, interference in wireless systems causes problems with smooth, consistent speeds.

Although WiFi is convenient for mobility, wireless interference can cause it's connection speed and quality to vary wildly.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range. As wireless connection quality varies the connection speeds are renegotiated. The connection may start at 150 Mbps and end up at less than 20 Mbps or drop entirely.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

There are two sides to a wireless connection and the problem could be with your phone and not the router. Try moving the phone to a different location. Due to the way that the directional antenna works, being super close is not always better.

Good Luck...

im 36 weeks pregnant and my baby has missed beats :/.... ?

Baby Ashto

Im 36 weeks pregnant and my baby has missed heartbeats audible on the monitor :/ This means that his heart is skipping a beat now and then. The hospital midwife says theres nothing they can do yet but What does this mean? Is it bad? what can it be? any help would be appreciated thank you x
I have had a midwife hear the heartbeat skipping but they cannot tell what it will be when my baby is born :/ what could it be? :/

Answer
That doesn't mean that it is a sign for an unborn baby. I would go to a Dr and let them do an ultrasound on the baby or possibly a 3G ultrasound where they can see more just to make sure the baby does not have any type of heart problem. You would want to know this and be able to prepare for that if baby were to be born with a heart condition more than not, and waiting to see.
Good luck

I have chosen the question : are we too dependent on life simplifying devices? Im not looking for someone to write my paper just I want to know if anyone has any Idea about some things that I should touch on in my paper

thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Taylor,

Yes, I believe we are (too) dependent on life simplifying devices. I've bracketed the word 'too' because I believe there are some devices that add to daily life stresses and yet have a place in our life style.

Take Communications:
I guess the ability to be able to communicate with and actually see the person you are communicating with (Skype) is really a marvelous experience. (My daughter lives in Dublin Ireland and I live in Perth Western Australia, so we connect frequently using Skype).

If we look at 'e-mail', it can be seen as a 'blessing or curse'. A blessing for the speed of sending messages and receiving replies'. A curse for people who work, because in today's business climate where time = profit, many senders expect a prompt reply and this increases the stress and work-load of the recipient.

Home Appliances:
Again, the speed of preparing meals, boiling water, cooking and cleaning all are made possible through the use of modern devices.

The drudgery of laundry compared to a time before the development of 'washing machines' is a boon to those who have to do the laundry.

Devices that help to monitor that a baby is sleeping safely, that help people with 'sleep apnea disorders' offer an early warning in the event of something going wrong.

Similarily, devices that provide an 'early warning' system for the elderly who live alone or who are impaired in some way, provide a measure of early warning and not least, comfort for their families.

In the home: Smoke detectors are essential safety protectors.

Hope this helps.

do you think this is awful?

Q. My girlfreinds parants put a baby monitor in her room, to listen to all her phone calls and skype so on...... she is 14 what do you think of this.
her parants dont know she found it should she tell them

I think that this girl needs to kill her parents. And she should hate them forever and not invite them to the gothic wedding.

Is it possible for a phone with a cord to pick up other phone conversations?

baby monitor you can talk into image

Hullo

I know it sounds odd, but I just picked up the phone a second ago to call my friend. There was no dial tone, but I heard another conversation on the other end. I know baby monitors can pick up cell phone conversations, but can a land line? And I get it, this is weird, but thanks if you can answer or have an opinion. xD

Answer
cross talk happens all the time.

if the other caller "over drives" the call by screaming into the phone or if the line is flooded with water, you can get cross talk.

What to do during a dog's seizure and what is the cost of medication?

Mo Money

My 3 year old lab had two seizures in March of this year (really weak, not diagnosed). Yesterday my wife and I noticed he was having one. I rubbed him down and talked to him during the seizure until it went away (3-5 minutes). What else can I do? I know I have to take him to the vet and most likely get him medicated. How much money are we looking at?

Answer
my dog had seizures and all i could do for her is sit and pat her and let her know i was there.

Its very sad to watch it happen to them

I the end the seizures did kill her

I just found this info if its any good

During the Seizure:

- Some dogs are light or sound sensitive during seizure episodes. Try dimming the lights and keeping phones at a distance from the dog.

- Keep old towels or baby diapers handy to catch urine if your dog urinates during seizures.

- Some human epileptics say they have an easier time if the seizure is allowed to run its course. Calling the dog's name to bring them out of the seizure may not be the best thing for your dog. Try it each way and see which is more comfortable for your particular dog's seizure.

- A fan blowing on the dog, or rubbing the feet and belly with cool water may help cool the dog down. Of course, in any case should the dog seem to be overheating due to repeated seizures or not coming out of a seizure -IMMEDIATELY bring the dog to/or contact a vet since overheating can be very dangerous.

- Many dogs are confused and even blind right after a seizure. Keep the dog in a safe area where they cannot fall down stairs or hurt themselves.

- Keep a careful journal of the seizures. As soon as possible write down the exact time the dog started to seizure and the time the seizure ended. A stop watch or watch with a second hand can be helpful. After the seizure is over and you have time - write down all circumstances surrounding the seizure, such as unusual food eaten, activities that happened during the previous day, medications or vaccinations recently given. A detailed journal can be helpful when bringing your dog to a new vet or neurologist.

- Be prepared to transport a dog that cannot stand up and walk, or is even in the middle of a seizure. Hard plastic children's sleds can be used to carry or drag the dog to the car. A heavy blanket folded can also act as a stretcher. If you are alone with a very heavy/large seizing dog, call the vets office for instructions. Depending on where you live you may want to try calling the police for help in getting the dog into the car if no one else is available.

Safety:

- Seizure proofing your home is important since most of us cannot be there to watch our dogs at all times. Seizures may occur when the dog is home alone. Many people crate their dogs while they are not there. An airline type crate (Vari-Kennel or Furrari) minimizes the chances of the feet getting caught up in the wires.

- While crating, or even when leaving the dog home alone, make sure the dog is not wearing a collar (especially with tags) that could get caught while the dog is thrashing. Choking can result.

- Some people make a special room for the epileptic dog, clearing out any objects/furniture that may injure the dog during a seizure. Crating or making a 'doggy room' may be the best idea should you have a 'catapulting dog', that is one that throws itself across the room during seizures.

- Never leave an epileptic dog alone near any water deep enough to drown in. If you need to, investigate getting a doggy lifevest for your dog.

- If you are concerned about your dog seizing while swimming, doggie life vests are available.

- Protection or separation may need to be considered in multiple dog households. A seizing dog can trigger the 'pack' instinct in which an injured animal on the ground is attacked. Monitor your dogs until you know their reactions to the seizing dog.

- Baby gates can be invaluable to block off stairways or confine the dog to a certain room.

- Be careful of leaving windows open should you have a dog that spends time near one. Screen windows can easily fall out of the framing as well as your dog.

- Prop a large piece of styrofoam insulation against a sliding glass door if you are afraid of your dog hitting against it.

- Buy a new or used baby alert monitor to 'hear' your dog if he sleeps in a different part of the home. Just put the receiver part in your bedroom -this may help you sleep better if you are constantly trying to 'listen' to hear if the dog is all right.

- If you really want to know what happens when you are not home, buy a voice activated tape recorder. It only records when significantly loud noise is heard. This will not only let you know if your dog has seized, but if he has been barking all day. Some also videotape their dog during the time they are gone. They then fast forward thru the tape to see if anything unusual has happened during the day.

- Keep phone numbers to your vet and all emergency vet hospitals near all phones. 2:00 a.m. in the morning is not he time to decide if your dog is in status and then figure out what to do. Drive by the emergency vet so you know exactly where it is. When traveling, get emergency numbers in advance or immediately find the hospital nearest you when you arrive. Keep the number handy at all times.

- An ID tag on a lost epileptic dog is very important. It's scary enough to think of a lost dog, but a lost dog without medications is even worse. Medical alert tags are available at most pharmacies, pet supply catalogs or from your vet. It can even be engraved and worn with your dog's regular tags.

- Train all your dogs for basic obedience. You may need it someday if you are walking multiple dogs and your epileptic seizures. The situation would be much easier if the other dogs will obey a sit or down stay.

What are you're opinions on the color video baby monitors?

My aunt asked for a new baby minitor in her baby gift registry and I was thinking of getting her the Handheld Color Video Monitor from Target. Its $199.00 and I want it to be worth the money. Is it worth it? Anyone like it/dislike it? Please give me your opinions. I think it is really neat that you can see the baby and everything, but is it too good to be true?

Answer
I disagree with the above answer. We actually have a video monitor for our 6 month old son, and it's great! With regualr monitors, all you hear is the sound. You cant always tel whats going on just by the sound you hear. With the video monitor, you can hear the sound, and see what is going on as well. Sometimes, with just a regualr monitor, you will hear somthing strange, and run in to check it out, and it really be nothing. We had many false alarms becasue sound alone doesnt answer concerns.

The video on the monitor is actually pretty clear. On some, you can actually record on it too, incase you want to use it as a security camera!

Q: What week during pregnancy do doctors start checking your cervix for dilation?

Blessed Wi

Does it change for gestational diabetes?

Answer
Assuming you don't have any signs or risk factors for preterm labor, they usually start checking your cervix around 36 weeks. If you have gestational diabetes, that will probably increase your chances of preterm labor and I'm guessing they're going to monitor you and your baby more closely. You should expect an ultrasound to check your baby's weight, since mothers with diabetes tend you have heavier babies. Each doctor is different and it depends on the mother's individual circumstances.

The transmitter on my baby monitor is going bad. Can you use a different transmitter and receiver so long as they are the same mhz? What if they are two different brands?
Just because its a baby monitor does't mean I'm using it to monitor a baby so if anyone feels the need to preach about me not wanting to buy a new set save it for when some one actually ASKs for your opinion. (not you rich, but I'm sure you've seen the people I'm talking about at yahoo answers).

Answer
Your best bet is to buy a matching pair. They are fairly cheap, but would work better, since they are made for each other to the company specs.. When you are thinking about the safety of a baby, for me, price is not important.!!

What is the best 2 room video baby monitor?

Kristin

I would like to get a baby video monitor but I want it in both kids rooms with only one monitor screen. What is the best one on the market for the cheapest price. Or...is there a video system out that has only one camera that I can order a 2nd camera separate for?

Answer
Hi

Like any other products, baby monitors need to suit your lifestyle and satisfy your requirements, even to the slightest of details. So before you purchase one, try to dwell on a number of factors first. These things will not only serve as your guide, they will also help you pick out the best type or brand for your little one.

Some of the things you need to consider are:

Range
Portability
Levels of Interference
Video Monitoring Options

There are more details at the link in the source box about the Best Baby Monitors and I hope they help

Take care

Where can I find information on what are considered good baby products?

Mamamia121

I am trying to register for my baby. I am so confused. There are 5 different brands of infant/newborn bottles, 15 different brands of baby monitors, 3 brands of infant care products. How do I know which is the best? I am very overwhelmed. Please help.
None of my friends have babies. My sister-in-law has two children but they are 7 and 4. This would be foreign to her.

Answer
Ask friends, family, coworkers, etc. what products they like and dislike and why and that should help you make a choice. Be sure to save receipts and shop at "return" friendly stores just in case you find you don't like a product. Target tends to have nicer things but I find they can be a bit of a pain when returning things sometimes. Wal-Mart has a much more lenient return policy.

If you want to e-mail me questions about products you're unsure of I'd be happy to share my experiences with you. I have a 2-year old and a 6-month old and I think I've tried it all! I went through the confusion with my first and got a lot of things I didn't like or didn't use/need.

Good Luck!

What does it take to open a used bookstore?

J. Kay Swi

I am currently working on a college research paper

What was the total start up cost in order to open a used book store?

How much was the rent for the facility you use, and how much is it currently?

What are all your business expenses including past and present?

What is the monthly charge or payment to create and maintain an online store or website?

Explain the business you run?

What is your competition and how do they differ?

What is the economic, social, and legal documents, information, impact, and conditions to which you have to abide by, adapt to, and work in order for your business to properly function?

What is the demand for products you offer in your location, and how does this make your business successful?

What is a good description for your store, and the design of the facility? What made you choose this design and how do you think it helps you or make you stand out amongst your competitors?

Is there any other vital information that you think is relevant and/or you think I should know?

Answer
I am a former bookstore owner, a former university book buyer, and a former manager for Barnes and Noble and Books a Million.

In March of 2000, I opened a 6,500 sq ft. Book/Gift/Cafe, in a strip mall, in a small southern town, pop 8,500.

The start up cost was 50,000.00 (it was all I had).

Below is an itemized list of monthly expenditures.

Rent: $1,000.00
Utilities: 650.00
Phone: 150.00 (includes internet)
Salaries: 2,800.00
Licenses: 35.00
Advertising: 200.00
Fed Emp Tax: 900.00
St. Emp Tax: 60.00
Sales Tax: 2,400.00

Fed Income tax: NA

Inventory replacement 6,000.00

Gross Income: 31,000.00

The nearest comparable bookstore is 81 miles south. For this reason, I experienced a measure of success. There are factors that influence the money customers have to spend such as: 911, the high cost of gas, shipping charges, the presidential elections, etc.

I sold my business for a profit in 2006.

A business is like a baby. It has to be fed to grow, it has to be monitored continually, and it takes years before you see the success of the many hours of work you have invested.

I would be glad to answer any questions you have..

I'm getting a new laptop, a Dell Inspiron 17, and I won't really be able to afford security software that you pay for. But I've heard that you can get good security software for free online. So what's the best legit security software that you can download for free?

Answer
Consumer Reports's top honors 2009 went to a free three-pack of Avira's AntiVir antivirus program, Microsoft's Windows Defender antispyware software and the Spamfighter antispam program.

Avira AntiVir
Its scans are flexible, allowing the user to fully scan both internal and external hard drives, run a preloaded scan--for rootkits, for example--or customize a scan. The latest version introduces antispyware protections, scanning tech that can crack open "locked" files, improved internal security to prevent AntiVir's files from being maliciously altered, and one-click threat removal--no more baby-sitting. AntiVir is still challenging to fully uninstall. Despite these hang-ups and the nag screen that follows definition file updates, AntiVir offers such effective protection and a well-rounded set of features that as long as the updates keep coming, it'll be our first line of defense.

Windows Defender is software that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software by detecting and removing known spyware from your computer. features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it's detected, minimizes interruptions, and helps you stay productive.

SPAMfighter has partnered up with Microsoft to build the strongest, safest, and most effective anti spam filter on the market. If you use Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail or Thunderbird and you want to get rid of spam, just install SPAMfighter

What is wrong with my connection speed and how can i fix it?

rich

-My internet service provider is optimum.
-I have a wireless router (purchased last year) and a modem (upgraded last year as well).

My actual internet seems to be fine but the problem is downloading, uploading, and playing online games (xbox live). My connection was great up until a week ago, where I began lagging in every online game I played, which was unbearable, and nearly impossible. I use Netflix frequently which seems to be very slow as well, along with downloading any program on my laptop (wont download), uploading videos to youtube (have done it once since the problem occurred but took about 5 hours+ to upload), and I really need to know what can possibly be done to fix this.

I have also tried testing my connection on sites such as speedtest.net and speakeasy.net and came to the conclusion that my ping is at 10ms, download speed is at .81mbps and my upload speed is at .06mbps. im not very tech savyy but im pretty sure that is not very good. any help would be great! thanks!

Answer
Ping is super.

Download and upload speeds suck, big time.

What speed are you paying for?

Optimum is a cable Internet provider, Most cable Internet plans are 10 Mbps+ with offerings in some areas in excess of 300 Mbps.

Unless that is a super budget 768 Kbps plan, You need to try and power cycle your equipment.

Connect a PC or laptop directly to one of the router LAN ports via Ethernet and follow these steps in this specific order.

1. Unplug power cables on the router and modem.

2. Plug in the modem and wait a minute or two to establish a Internet connection.

3. Plug in the router.

4. Reboot your computer to have the router DHCP service assign a new IP address to your computer.

5. You can test your Internet connection speed here: http://speedtest.net

If the Ethernet Internet connection works fine then try the wireless connections.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range. As wireless connection quality varies the connection speeds are renegotiated. The connection may start at 54 Mbps and end up at less than 20 Mbps.

Just because a particular wireless router works good at one location does not guarantee that it will have similar performance in a different location due to variance in the factors listed above.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

As I described above wireless connection quality can vary dramatically, for gaming this can cause lag in online games. Your latency (ping) may be 30 ms and wireless interference could cause it to spike to 200 ms or more. Wireless connections also have more overhead involved in the transfer of data such as the encryption / decryption used for wireless security.

The best solution would be to use a wired (Ethernet) connection between your gaming device and the router.

If it is not feasible to run cables you have other options such as powerline network adapters You plug one in by the router and one in the room where you need access and connect them to the devices with standard Ethernet patch cables. http://isp1.us/reviews/netgear-xavb2101-powerline-adapter/

The network signals are transmitted over your existing home electrical wiring which will not be affected by wireless interference.

In my opinion for a gaming connection I would run Ethernet or use powerline adapters.

However, if you need the wireless mobility there are various other ways to extend a Internet connection to areas with a weak wireless signal.

Devices such as wireless extenders that can expand your wireless range if need be. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YAYM06/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=excharge-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004YAYM06

The wireless range extender receives weak wireless signals and repeats them to extend the signal range to greater distances. Some models include 4 Ethernet ports in addition to the wireless radio.

Good Luck...

I am worried that we are going to be too controlled & monitored. Having little freedom or rights left. Like computer chips being placed directly in babies as they are born. Is there a way for us to all join together to stop something like this from happening? Maybe a place to hide? I am thinking New Zealand or a tiny island off the southern coast of Spain.. What do you think things will be like in the future?

Answer
2010s - The Rise of the Second Russian empire. A new cold war will be fought between America and an autocratic Russia attempting to build another empire. Poland will become a major ally of the United States in this cold war. The Islamic jihadists will slowly be pushed underground as slowly a more conservative Turkey will impose it's dominance over the Islamic world. China will reach the peak of its financial strength towards the end of this decade or the start of the next one. India will rise at a slower rate than China, but the stability of its government will continue the economic expansion longer. In the United States and Europe privacy rights will be expanded as people become more and more concerned.

2020s -- America and its ally Poland will emerge as the winners in the second cold war against Russia. Turkey will be the de fato leader of the Islamic world and will start to crash with American interests more. China will collapse as the world's new super economic power. Declining birth rates caused by the one child policy will cause China to have way too many old people to support. The mass amounts of corruption and bad loans to internal parties will prove the Chinese system is not superior to the Western World. There will be massive internal China political fights between the wealthy coasts and the poor internal Chinese. China will act in one of two ways to solve this problem: Seal China off from the world or fragment along geopolitical areas. Most likely China of the 2020s will look at a political level a lot like China of the 1920s. India will emerge as the expected economy to over take America. Japan, as the second largest economy in the world, will try to again assume de fato political power over areas of China, but this time by money, not guns. The first solar energy collectors will be placed in orbit and will start to beam their power back to Earth by microwaves. This will start to spell the doom for nations those primary export is oil.

2030 -- Computers will be monitoring us 24/7, but with the primary purpose of watching our health. A computer will notify emergency units of someone having a heart attack before it actually happens. Privacy laws will be very tough; however, it will be easy to monitor anyone. America will be starting another long economic expansion as the World's most powerful economy. Americans will start to worry about the number of Indian imports.

How many SIDS deaths occur within 2 weeks of getting shots? I heard on NPR years ago it is something like 98%?

on our own

There are lots of new shots out there since I first heard this. Does anyone know this study that first reported this figure, and why it hasn't got more attention?

Answer
More than 10 years ago, a manufacturer of an apnea monitor presented their findings at a medical conference. They were basically laughed off the stage because they were neither researchers nor doctors. However, their information indicated that there were many more apnea episodes at specific periods after getting vaccinations. These did not occur with children who did not receive vaccinations. I think they were on to something.

In Japan, they stopped giving any vaccinations to children while they investigated the issue regarding autism. The rate of autism did not go down. However, their rate of SIDS went down. When they reintroduced vaccinations, the recommendation was to delay most vacs until 2 years old. Their SIDS rate remains low. Japan had lower rates in the first place (babies sleep next to mom on floor mats, not in cribs), but for it to be even lower says something.

These are the primary reasons why I recommend delaying vacs until 2 years old with a few exceptions (rotovirus is one). Up to you. It was concerns of parents, not doctors, that demanded a change in the DTaP vaccine as well as removal of thimersol from both pediatric vaccines and Rhogham (and related injections given to pregnant women).

There is a false assumption by doctors that reactions are always immediate. This isn't true. They only look for reactions within the time period of the study. For another example, maternal deaths used to be only counted if they occurred within 4 weeks of birth, when in reality, women continue to die weeks later from birth complications (including blood clots and infections). That is why they are now extending the count to 1 year to give a more realistic view of the number of maternal deaths in the US.
