Where to buy at home Fertility Monitoring Sticks in stores? Do ovulation sticks do the same thing?

Naptown Mo

Does anyone know which stores sell the Fertility Monitors? I have already been to Walmart and Kmart and neither had them, only ovulation monitoring kits. If I can't find the fertility sticks, should I just purchase the ovulation monitors? Has anyone used these? I am just curious to see when the best time to try to get pregnant will be because it has been not easyTTC!

Answer
I have been using the clear blue fertility monitor for over a year and I swear by it, and highly recommend it to everyone ttc. It takes all the guess work out of this ttc business, and it helped me to learn everything I needed to know about my cycle. We got our monitor at Walgreen's, it was the only place that sold it, and it is also the only store that sells the tests strips for it in my area. You can also check ebay or amazon, they can sometimes be found on there cheaper, as well as the test strips. You need to purchase the strips in order to use the monitor.

It really is worth it, especially if your ovulation pattern is unpredictable. It will tell you when you are fertile prior to ovulation, as well as when you ovulate, so there is no reading test strip lines, and no guessing at all. It gives you a heads up on when to try, basically. It pretty much puts your mind at ease, as there is no guessing, and you will know you've tried on the right days. They are a bit pricey, so I would recommend looking on ebay or amazon first for a brand new one. You can buy them used, but I have no experience with that, I just hear it is not recommended. Beware the 1st month you use it, you may or may not get a peak reading, as it can take a cycle to become familiar with your hormone levels and cycle. This is very common, but rest assured that many, many women are able to get a peak reading and detect ovulation in the 1st month of use. Out of all the women I know that use it, I was the only one that was not able to get a peak reading my 1st month. So check Walgreen's, or online. I promise you will be very happy with it:)

Good luck to you and lots of baby dust coming your way!!!

30 weeks pregnant and I need something to do?

Dominance

Hi =-) The fall semester at my college has ended, and now I'm finding myself in constant boredom. Seeing as I have 10 more weeks to go, I would really appreciate suggestions on what I could do to prepare for the baby, and to help time fly. I have not began working on the nursery at all, so I really want to get started on that. Any ideas on DIY projects?

Answer
== VISIT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY and check out and read about baby care === shop the craigslist for baby furniture,, changing table,, lamp,, == buy a new mattress for the Baby bed === buy some fabric and make a quilt and curtains to match === Walmart and Kmart are the best places to buy baby bottles and the things that are needed for feeding and care === AND .... YES ... the throw-a-way diapers are the best for the 1st few months or use a diaper service ==== the sooner you do the potty training the better your child will understand being clean and independent ((( this is a fact ))) NOW ... for your projects more follows --- read online about infant seats for your car === decide what you can do to continue the college courses and buy the books so you have a head start towards a top GPA === see if you have a friend that can do the painting for the baby room === look for a baby monitor [[ radio type walkie-talkie @ radio shack or walmart ]]] all the things that you can do now will alleviate the stressful feelings that you have and make the time of delivery much easier ................... perhaps you can find a care giver for the hours that you are back in college and you will be happier going back soon after delivery and you will still have time for your baby ... it is a nice time in your life and I hope that you will a wonderful new MOM ....

What is the problem with my toshiba satellite and what are my options?

I have an older Toshiba Satellite running Vista, I think its like an '07 laptop (if I remember correctly). I want to look through all my pictures and transfer them onto my new HP Windows 8 laptop. I run into the issue that my lap top's monitor will not cut on, however the laptop itself is on (due to the fact that the power light is lit and you can hear the fan working, and the cd tray retracts when I push the button). Now, I have tried to connect the Toshiba to my tv through s video and vga, it didn't work. And now I tried my vga to my HP (I haven't tried usb from computer to computer). Here's the thing, I connect my iphone with the charging cable to my HP and it began to charge, however when I did the same on my Toshiba it would not charge. I am now beginning to think it is a deeper problem than just the monitor. I need to know if my monitor is not working for the same reason my ports are not working, what may have caused this issue, and finally what are my options? I cannot lose these picture because they are of my 3 year old daughter's baby pics and these are the only ones I have.

Also, this laptop has spent about a year turned off collecting dust, even when it is off for a day the battery is completely out of juice so I have to charge it every time I want to attempt to turn it on. I want to know my options from cheapest to more expensive; further, acquiring the pictures so that I can have them on my new computer and printing them is the only thing i care about, getting music and docs that I have is not important but would be nice to have.

Answer
Turn your Toshiba laptop over ad remove the Hard Drive from the compartment.
It will probably be IDE type so you can get a caddy for it and then connect that HD to your new laptop and copy your data over to your new system.
Once our done getting all your files then FORMAT the "old" HD this will then give you an external storage device that you can use to keep your important files on if you want.

Is it better to connect on demand for directv with powerline ethernet adapter or lynksis adapter?

surferchic

There is a 3rd way connected directly with an ethernet cable but my hd dvr is in a completely different area and running wires around my house seems too complicated

Answer
I would definitely stay away from wireless if you can. The reason is that wireless is susceptible to all sorts of interference that can interrupt your network connection. And when streaming video, these interruptions will result in delays, pauses, and jitter in your video image. Things like cordless phones, microwaves, baby monitors, and neighboring Wi-Fi networks can all degrade the performance of your wireless network, resulting in poor image quality.

I definitely recommend powerline. I'm using some adapters from Plaster Networks that are GREAT! They have some diagnostic tools that allow me to see how fast the powerline network is performing at any point in time, so that I can be sure that I have a good connection. I haven't had any problems with the quality of my video using the powerline network.

I have two iPhones, the old iPhone 3g and the new iPhone 4s. now i wanted to use my old iphone 3g (iOs version updated) as a Home Spy Camera and wanted to watch my kids at home live stream to my new iPhone 4s while im at work. i also got my Home Wifi network. is there any best iphone application out there for this matter? or is it possible to use my Home IP address to use and access it for this concept?

Answer
There are many training videos telling us how to make iphone as home spy camera on line.
Um...I've found two:
1. http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-use-iphone-as-spy-camera-423938/
2. http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-make-iphone-secret-spy-camera-423940/
The second video looks like very easy to access, but I don't know if it is useful for you.

If these two ways are not fit, I suggest you to buy a Baby Monitor or Home Spy Camera. You can visit this online store:
http://www.accessbuy.com/wholesale-Baby-Monitor_120.html
http://www.accessbuy.com/wholesale-IP-Camera_113.html
It's a wholesaler, so its price is very low.

What's the best Wireless IP camera to monitor a baby?

caliducas

Answer
Wireless cameras are getting really cheap. it gets down to how much do you want to spend. Next, what kind of picture (best), do you want a camera that can pan and zoom (probably you don't need that), and sound (might be good). If you spend a little time looking at them you can narrow it down. Avoid the cheapest ones and get a name brand one. for this you need a wifi camera that plugs into 110 electricity (usa standard). I have 3 in my house. If you search carefully, you can even get a camera that you can bring up on your smart phone. If you have a name brand wireless router like dlink, linksys or netgear, try for a wireless camera made by them. that way it will be simple to connect to the router. Newegg has great prices and no taxes.

Answer
I am using Philips Avent. It was less than 100S$. I like it mostly bcz it's handy and cheap:p but the sound quality and quality in general is Awsome. It does eat alot of battery but it also comes with AC power. I could use it for like 15,20 days on battery life. But if you can spare two plugs then ur all good:) if the baby unit is turned off the parent unit makes a loud alaram... So u know that the baby unit has been turned off... It also indicates if the batteries are running out by a blinking red light in both units so u know before hand if u need to change batteries:) I hope it helps. Good luck:)

PS: it's 100 Singapore dollars.

Nutro Brand Deserts-Why have they been discontinued?

ToxLabRat

Does anyone have any information as to why Nutro has discontinued their line of desserts for dogs? I have a Pug who just loves them, especially the pumpkin and carrot cake varieties, and when I went to the store today, I was told they were discontinued. I called Nutro and was told by a customer service rep that they were discontinued, but she would not disclose the reason. If anyone has any info, I would be interested to know. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Unfortunately, it was poor sales results. In many cases, the product went out of date before it was sold.

You could try fresh fruits. Apple slices, baby carrots, etc are all great treats.

Edit: To clarify, Nutro has had a small recall on their cat food because of overadding of an ingredient. Check your facts before you cry recall....
In addition, the recall of 2007, which was TWO YEARS ago, involved many different producers of pet foods. Nutro was not the only company affected by Menu Foods. Please get your facts straight.

Funny how the FDA website has one recall listed for cat food:

May 21, 2009 - Nutro Products Announces Voluntary Recall of Limited Range of Dry Cat Food Products
Right off the FDA website.

And the mob action begins.....

Here are the facts:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Franklin, Tennessee (May 21, 2009) -- Today, Nutro Products announced a voluntary recall of select varieties of NUTRO® NATURAL CHOICE® COMPLETE CARE® Dry Cat Foods and NUTRO® MAX® Cat Dry Foods with âBest If Used By Datesâ between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010. The cat food is being voluntarily recalled in the United States and ten additional countries. This recall is due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium in our finished product resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier.

Two mineral premixes were affected. One premix contained excessive levels of zinc and under-supplemented potassium. The second premix under-supplemented potassium. Both zinc and potassium are essential nutrients for cats and are added as nutritional supplements to NUTRO® dry cat food.

This issue was identified during an audit of our documentation from the supplier. An extensive review confirmed that only these two premixes were affected. This recall does not affect any NUTRO® dog food products, wet dog or cat food, or dog and cat treats.

Affected product was distributed to retail customers in all 50 states, as well as to customers in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Israel. We are working with all of our distributors and retail customers, in both the US and internationally, to ensure that the recalled products are not on store shelves. These products should not be sold or distributed further.

Consumers who have purchased affected product should immediately discontinue feeding the product to their cats, and switch to another product with a balanced nutritional profile. While we have received no consumer complaints related to this issue, cat owners should monitor their cat for symptoms, including a reduction in appetite or refusal of food, weight loss, vomiting or diarrhea. If your cat is experiencing health issues or is pregnant, please contact your veterinarian.

Consumers who have purchased product affected by this voluntary recall should return it to their retailer for a full refund or exchange for another NUTRO® dry cat food product. Cat owners who have questions about the recall should call 1-800-833-5330 between the hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST, or visit www.nutroproducts.com.

Recalled Pet Food

The varieties of NUTRO® NATURAL CHOICE® COMPLETE CARE® Dry Cat Foods and NUTRO® MAX® Cat Dry Foods listed below with âBest If Used By Datesâ between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010 are affected by this voluntary recall.

Nutro Products Recall List â Dry Cat Foods

Edit: Obviously, but no reason to post "facts" that are not. You could really upset people who are feeding a Nutro product, and whether you like it or not has nothing to do with recalls.
BTW, I do not feed my dogs Nutro.

what are the %'s and risks during labor and delivery caused by vonwillebrands desease? is there a percent amount of like 1 out of 10 women with vonwillebrands will die during delivery and stuff. is the risk higher if her family has a history of hemoriaging?

Answer
Hi,
I am a doctor..

von Willebrand Disease (vWD) is an inherited disorder(not infectious, as you have classified!) of a clotting factor that affects platelets; it interferes with the blood's ability to clot. About one percent of Americans have vWD. There are several subtypes of this disorder that have somewhat different risks and require different treatment in pregnancy.

vWD is divided into 3 major categories: (1) partial quantitative deficiency (type I), (2) qualitative deficiency (type II), and (3) total deficiency (type III). Qualitative vWD type II is further divided into 4 variants, ie, IIA, IIB, IIN, and IIM, based on the characteristics of the dysfunctional vWF. These categories correspond to distinct molecular mechanisms, with corresponding clinical features and therapeutic requirements

Most women with vWD experience some improvement in their condition during gestation, since the hormones of pregnancy increase many clotting factors. As for childbirth, the bleeding that occurs after the placenta is expelled is normally controlled by uterine contractions, which squeeze the blood vessels and stop the blood from flowing out of the uterus. This mechanism is fully functional in women with clotting disorders. There are times though that vWD does lead to hemorrhaging at childbirth, either immediately while in the delivery room, or at a later time within the next few weeks. Since there are different types of vWD, which respond to different treatments, your hematologist should advise your obstetrician about what to do if you have excess bleeding at birth. Sometimes in severe vWD, medications are given preventatively during labor. Since vWD is hereditary, it also is important to make sure your pediatrician knows about your condition and assesses your baby after delivery.

During pregnancy, the vWF level increases in most patients with nonâtype III disease. Thus, in patients with functionally normal vWF, labor and delivery usually proceed normally. However, patients with type II disease may experience hemorrhagic problems. In particular, patients with type IIB may experience thrombocytopenia due to the increased plasma levels associated with abnormal vWF. All patients should be monitored for excessive bleeding, particularly during the first week postpartum.

While you need to be aware of potential complications, it's generally considered safe to get pregnant with von Willebrand Disease, and most women do quite well through pregnancy and childbirth. Again, I think you should talk to your OB and your hematologist about your own particular situation.

What are the hospital procedures for a pregnant woman from the time she enters to when she leaves the hospital

Q. I need to do a school project on pregnancy and babies. And part of it is to research exactly what has to happen for a woman to properly have her baby and leave the hospital. So anyone know the procedures and paperwork? I don't even have the slightest clue. Thanks

Answer
Hmm, it's been a while but here goes...
I had a planned c-section and here's what I remember...
*Register- fill out a general form about insurance, emeregency contacts, etc, give copy of insurance card and driver license (many hospitals allow you to preregister weeks before so you don't have to mess with all that while you are in labor)
*Fill out medical forms (allergies, medical history, etc) and consent forms for the surgery, anesthesia and other stuff
*Get prepped (monitors hooked up to monitor my vitals and the baby and contractions, get IV put in, get shaved at incision site, do an ultrasound to check baby's position)
*Sit and wait til surgeon is ready
*Go to OR
*Get prepped further (get epidural or spinal block, get urinary catheter inserted, lie down and wait to go numb)
*Drape is put up,Doc checks for numbness, and hubby is brought in
*Belly is cleaned/sterilized and surgery begins (they talk you through it, telling you what they are doing and what to expect to feel/experience....yes you do feel stuff)
*pull out baby and hand off to nurse, who rubs clean and puts on security device and bracelet
*pull uterus out to finish it up/sew it up, put it back in, and sew you up
*Let you see baby, let daddy hold him/her
*send baby off to get cleaned, pricked, diapered, etc
(I don't remember the next 30-45 minutes because I was in such pain I asked them to put me under)
*you get taken on your bed to your room (you are still paralyzed... IV and catheter get removed the next day)
*baby is brought in
*the usual hospital stay stuff... docs checking on you, checking on baby goes on for next few days
*someone comes to talk to you to fill out legal paperwork about birth certificate
*you (or hubby) will need to meet with hospital financial person to arrange payment/payment plan
*sign release papers
*put baby in car seat, get pushed out of hospital in wheelchair to go home

What Should I Get My Sister For Her Baby Shower?

cece101200

My sister is pregnant with her first child, and despite economic times I really wanted to get her something nice and memorable. I was thinking of a video baby monitor with a camera and television screen, so she could actually see what was going on with her child. I was also thinking of getting her one of those digital video cameras to tape some memories of her kid, parents love that.

I think each gift would be nice, but I don't know what would be a good one for me to get. What do you think would be a good gift?

Answer
Something practical would be nice. Honestly, out of the two options you gave I would go with the latter. I basic monitor works just as well (heck, if she lives in tight quarters, she might not even need one. Believe me, a baby will make sure you can hear it cry). Something like a baby swing would be nice, also. Or a bunch of things she will need like diapers, baby wipes, different baby medicines, etc.

What kind of baby monitor do you have?

cricket

Do you like your monitor?
What special features does your monitor have that you find useful?
Are there any bad things about your monitor?
Would you recommend it to a friend?
How many stars out of 5 would you give your monitor?

I'm looking to buy a monitor and would like all the info that I can get to make an informed decision since there are so many different ones out there. Thanks.

Answer
I think mine is a Safety 1st one from Walmart. I received it as a gift from someone before I had my baby and shower. It's nothing special - not the cheapest basic one but not the most expensive either. It's got 2 receivers, and like someone else said it picks up the noise really well. My daughter is 3 1/2, and I still use it when she's in bed and I'm at the other end of the house still up. I have had times where it's had interference, being able to hear other people in other places, but not often enough to be annoying or to stop me from being able to use it. I love it, and would definitely recommend it, I give it a 4 out of 5.

EDIT - this is almost exactly the same one I have, except mine has the light-up nightlight base and 2 receivers. Just to give you an idea...

Best way to track my fitness with iPhone apps?

best baby monitor 1.0 on Nuk Sensitive Breast Pump
best baby monitor 1.0 image

philscalis

I have a degree in exercise science and am going to school for physical therapy now and really want to track my fitness now that I have an iPhone and I know the importance of health. However, after researching apps I'm not sure the best app or app combination to use. I want to get a heart rate monitor (wahoo or polar?) and many of the apps will sync with it. I want to track calories, GPS run mapping capabilities, nutritious intake, and I want to track my strength training regimen (sets, reps, etc). The my fitness pal app seems to do some of these things and you can also tie in other apps or sync them with it. However there are so many other ones and I want to know the best way to do this if anyone can help. So far I have downloaded: my fitness pal, endomondo, fitocracy, sportstracker, runkeeper, real intelligence fitness app, and digifit icardio. If someone can help me out it would be much appreciated. I would try them out but don't want to give my info and make an account for all of these apps if they aren't what I want.

Answer
I track some of the same stuff you do, but not everything and I've tried some of the products you have, but not all. However, here's my take:

1. I use Runkeeper as my basic app. I'm primarily a runner and so are most of my friends. It links easily to facebook if you are interested in that. For me, this is how I communicate with my running community. It has some other basic cardio functions in it as well (elliptical, etc)
2. Runkeeper has a GPS function to be used with the iphone, it's generally accurate within 0.1-0.3 mile. However, when I want to be really accurate, I still default to my garmin which I can still link to my Runkeeper account. (ie, when I'm racing or want to track elevation)
3. Realize also that when you use GPS function on your phone, it will wear down the battery very quickly. I'll use the Runkeeper GPS function if I'm running or cycling an hour or less, but it's not ideal for long distances.
4. Runkeeper and probably most fitness apps will link to a heart rate monitor. However, I'd first ask why you intend to use one? As a PT, myself, I've come to the realization that unless you have a medical condition that warrants it, tracking heart rate is overly burdensome for little pay off. Just used your rate of Rate of Perceived Exertion. Whether you are doing intervals or tempo workouts, it's your exertional effort that's the real issue. Most of the established "guidelines" for heart rate during exercise were established for patients recovering from cardiac events, not necessarily for healthy adult fitness. So, unless you want to get into research about cardiac effort, I'd say don't bother. I suppose you can use it if you want to get a MORE accurate idea of your caloric burn, but I have better options for that (more later). I DIDN"T use one for years, mostly because I take a beta blocker which throws the whole target heart rate out the window anyway. I'm using one now (more on that in a minute) only because I'm pregnant and NEED to make sure my heart rate doesn't go over a certain amount (and I have arguements about that anyway). I use the iphone app with it, but haven't linked it to my RK. It does record it on the wahoo site, but I never go back and look at it. The wahoo site also does GPS and if you get the hardware, you can link it with your bike or a foot pod.
5. If you do want to use a HR monitor, I use the wahoo. My husband and I both have Garmin 910XT's and even though he got the heart rate monitor for it, he's happier with the wahoo. Again, he's not even using it anymore and I am. However, I don't even bother logging my heart rate...I use it only as a warning system. I do think I can link it with RK, but haven't bothered. Once I have the baby, I'll stop using it. Not sure why hubby doesn't like the garmin monitor...I just took his word for it.
6. Now, onto strength. RK doesn't really have a place to log this. I used MapMyRun for awhile which at least gave me an idea of how long I was weight lifting and an approximation of calories. In my opinion, if you are looking for an app that does everything, I'd say be prepared for a really complicated app. I found that the more features it has, the less user friendly it becomes. This is how I felt about MMR. For strength training, I'd consider a separate app. Same thing goes for nutrition. There are probably apps out there designed just for that which are much more user friendly.
7. Back to calorie counting. All the apps give you a basic ESTIMATION of your calories burned based on your weight and work out parameters. Even if you are using a heart rate monitor, again, this is only an ESTIMATE. Unless you are in a lab, all these tools provide estimates only. However, if you really want to know what your body is using and burning, I'd recommend the Body Media System. It's about as accurate as you can get with calorie count without having to be in a lab. The web app also has a nutritional log.

So here's my take in a nutshell:
1. Use a basic app for your cardio. Runkeeper is my personal favorite. Only use the GPS for shorter workouts
2. Use a separate GPS (I've only used garmins) if you want to be really accurate with your distance or if you are doing a long work out and simply sync it to your cardio app (like RK) from the garmin site.
3. Don't bother with a HR monitor unless you have a medical reason to do so
4. Use a separate app for your weight lifting and nutrition.
5. Consider a body media system if you REALLY want an accurate calorie count. It's expensive new, but I got a Core basic system used on ebay for $32. (myself, I'm content using the basic estimates from my cardio app).

Maybe there's an app that does everything, but I find that it gets too complicated....I don't want to spend 30 minutes logging my info.

Does my goldfish have a disease?

Barrett

I've had him for about 3 weeks. Within the last few days, around his gills had turned white, and he has dark patches.

Answer
It's hard to tell. Many Goldfish develop black or white patches naturally as they get older. However, they are big ammonia producers, and ammonia burns can be black. I suggest you get an inexpensive ammonia test kit (Walmart sells them) and monitor the ammonia levels for a while, every couple of days. If the ammonia gets as high as 1.0 or above, it's probably ammonia burns.

you didn't mention what size tank the fish is in. Goldfish will not live long in bowls. Bowls are strictly for baby fish, and even then they may give themselves ammonia poisoning if the water is not filtered or changed often enough. After a month maximum, a goldfish should transferred to at least a 15-20 gallon tank that has been well cycled (use Bio Spira to cycle overnight). One can live its entire life in a tank that size.

I'm in Australia and I'm looking for some second hand items in good condition of course. I would be more than happy to pay reasonable prices for the items or take them off your hands if you no longer need them. Naturally I will pay postage costs. Here are the items I am looking for: (Anything I am requesting must be neutral in colour as I am unsure of the gender of my baby)

Grobags/Sleeping Bags

If you have any other items you think I may be interested in please post details and I will email you if I am interested. Obviously my main goal is to save money but I don't want crap items. I'm sure you understand.

I have seen and read many great reviews for this product, and I want to know if it really works.Sometimes you wonder if the reviews you read are real or not, and I think this would be worth the investment (not that it's much.) I do wonder if this product works as well as it claims to, and any input would be appreciated. Thanks so much!!!

Answer
I do use the Angel care monitors. I used them with my daughter when she was a baby 3 1/2 years ago and I am now using it with my son.

I absolutely love the monitor!! In my opinion they work great!!

It really helped me to sleep at night knowing if my baby stopped breathing for what ever cause it would alarm.

Sometimes when the baby is bigger and starts to roll around a little bit you may get some false alarms because the baby may roll off of the sensor pad. But in my mind I would rather have a false alarm then a real one.

My son has a breathing problem so I am still using it and he is almost a year old. Oh my Gosh he will be a year old next week. Boy the time flys. Since he already has a breathing issue I use it all the time but especially when he gets sick because he ends up getting croup, which is very scary. We almost always have to take him to the hospital for breathing treatments for that.

All I have to say is I love the Angel Care Monitor and I totally recommend it!!!

Does anyone use the Angel Care Sound & Movement monitor? What are your experiences with it?

sweets

The Angel Care monitor is the one with the sensor pad that goes under the crib mattress and detects the baby's breathing. If it doesn't detect breathing for 15 seconds an alarm sounds to alert the parents.

I have a love-hate for this thing cause when my baby was first born, it was the only way I can get any peaceful sleep, without constantly worrying if my baby was still breathing (moms, you know how it is!!).

Now that she's almost 6 months and moves around so much at night, I obviously can't keep the monitor on cause the alarm constantly goes off.

But now I'm finding that I'm having trouble sleeping without it on and the worry about SIDS is creeping back.

Have any of you other parents experienced this and how did you overcome it?

Answer
I personally didn't use this product, but I did do a search for reviews on it for you... so you can read how others view it since no one has answered your question.

From my own personal view as a mother of 2. ..on not being able to hardly sleep at all not knowing if they are breathing, I totally understand...

My oldest daughter had to be on an apnea monitor from 2 months to 4 months, because she had stopped breathing one time... and so that thing that you bought would have been wonderful to have but it must not have been out when she was born (99) ... but anways... I so know what your feeling... when mine were young like that I ALWAYS go up in the night and checked on them.. layed my hand on their chest or back to see if it was going up and down... I also have anxiety so it was always so much worse with me freakin out ya know... it is normal though for an infant to stop breathing for 19 seconds... and usually SIDS will happen before 6 months... I mean that might make you feel better, another thing that I did do was keep the babies in my room until I thought they were old enough and safe enough to sleep without me ... but I do suggest checking her thru periods of the night... and in time mom, you will feel better about it...

Good Luck...

How can I help my mom?

best baby monitor for ipad on Baby monitor Baby Control Video Digital Chicco 61775.1

To be honest she has a very low attention sPan with virtually no interests. I'm not sure what to do to help her. Over the last few weeks I've showed her numerous times how to turn off the baby monitOr and she still doesn't get it! It's frustratings, it's not rocket science, it's just pushing a button as an alarm goes off if the baby is picked up before it is turned off. It's really simple. She
Claims she doesn't know how to use a computer, I've tried teaching her and she still doesnt get it. I signed her up for a computer course which she refuses to attend. I've taught her how to use an iPad...basic, she's doing a little better with that than a computer but still can't grasp the basic concepts. I don't know how to help her. I have a new baby, my dad just passed, I'm working on a degree, endless laundry, housework, will be going back to work soon but she still isn't trying to learn.

Answer
Sweetie , you shouldn't be tryin to cope with all this alone go and seek help, your family doctor should help you and give you advice and certainly put you on to someone, your mum might be depressed and needs professional help, you carry on trying to take matters into your own hands and you might go the same way , GET HELP !!! the very best of luck for you i hope she is better soon .

What to do about my iPad not working well..?

Yup Yup

My iPad has been flit hung A LOT - after being on twitter for like 30 minutes it crashes, after being on Safari for 30 minutes it crashes.
Apps aren't downloading - I've been trying to download apps but their not loading fully. And if they are downloading they take about two days.
Picture Crashes - while I'm on safari just saving pictures of Random things I go back to my home screen and click the my photos. It tells me a little thing and says 'syncing photos' and when its done (5 seconds) I look and half of the photos I saved aren't their.
YouTube not loading - Like a week ago YouTube was fine. It worked well, was fast and everything but now it's so slow. It's really ridiculous. I haven't seen a full YouTube video for the longest !

I've been thinking about ways to make it work but I can't figure out anything. My iPad is a 64 GB that's the highest one & I'm positive it's not the memory.

I've had it for about a year. Yes I've dropped it many of times- - but never to the full point it cracks.

I do NOT want to reset my iPad! NOT because of the important files and things I have saved. But because when I reseted my iPod it made a LOT of changes to it.

///// my sisters iPod and my iPod are bothe very slow at YouTube videos and Downloading apps, just as my iPad \\\\\\\\

Please help.

Also I do NOT wanna have to take it to the Apple store. Last time I did (long time ago) they deleted EVERYTHING. Because they had to reset it.

Please give me tips on how to make it more efficient. I've tried my best to keep it in good shape or whatever.

Should I delete all my videos? Will that work? Should I delete all of my apps? Should I stop using it?

Please tell me. Also what do you think is causing all this? Please help. I don't want my iPad to bug out or anything.

Answer
First off it sounds like you are having network/internet connection issues if all your devices are having slow connectivity issues, you need to sort this out first before you can do anything about your iPad. Do each of the following one at a time (in no specific order really) checking your internet connectivity after each...
Restart your modem/router (power off then back on),
Check for bad cables and phone line filters (good to have spares for this)
Remove anything cluttering/covering (especially metal objects that can be shielding the wifi signal) away from the modem/router, also remove (or at least temporarily switch off for testing if they are actually causing interference) cordless phones, baby monitors or any similar wireless devices you may have- these devices can and often do interfere with wifi because they often use the same (2.4 GHz) frequency range (cheap and cheery cordless RF devices are the worst for this).

If no improvement after you've done the above, Check with your ISP about your connection, they will probably go through the kind of stuff I just mentioned, so tell them that you have already done this stuff (if you have done it lol) and they should check through your connection status and help you with checking your modem hardware and config...usually. If your ISP is not giving you reasonable help (or tries to inexplicably bullsh!t you into a more expensive "solution") consider switching providers, your ISP is not exactly going to tell you that they have a crappy service now are they ;-)

With regards to your iPad trouble, the fix is simple and if this doesn't work, either the problem isn't fixable by you (hardware problem basically) or is not an actual iPad problem (eg- connectivity stuff I mentioned above) RESET....SERIOUSLY!!!
"I do NOT want to reset my iPad!"
So...live with it the way it is then, because RESETTING your iPad will usually fix this kind of glitchiness, I've got a couple iPads and an iPod, I've done reset/restores on them all at some point and have never had a problem...ever! So that's your options, either reset the thing and get it working optimally again... or do nothing and just put up with it.
If you backup your iPad in itunes first before you reset it, you can then restore it from that backup after and this will put all your settings, apps etc back the way you had them. Just do it, OKAY!!!

mac os x lion running slow?

probably 10-20 mins into a power-on my macbook pro 13" begins to lag really terribly. i usually starts with video feed like youtube or online movies. the audio will be fine but the video is super choppy; at first it starts out ok then gets worse and worse. although it's not just video feed it's everything; ie typing is lagged webpages lag aps lag, but i think the video feed catalyzes it all. i'm running on 4gbs of RAM so that can't be the problem. i looked at other forums and most advised a clean install but that's this whole ordeal i dont want to get into with putting all my shit on an external hard drive etc etc. is anybody else having this same problem? it's really fucking frustrating and i wanna toe punt a baby when i'm ten minutes into an action movie and you can hear jackie chan punch somebody in the throat but you don't get to see it.

Answer
I only have this issue when running parallels or running something very stressful like a video converter or massive software installation. Go to launchpad and click on utilities. Once there open activity monitor and close any programs you are not using or that are using massive amounts of resources. Also before turning off your mac make sure you have the restart apps button turned off. This will allowed a clean boot with nothing running. Best of luck.

Building a new computer for gaming?

Dispositio

This is an update on my last question. First time building a computer from the ground up and I've settled on these parts. I'm on a budget, and this comes out to around $620 after shipping, which is about what I was looking to spend.

Is there anything wrong with this setup that I missed? I think all these parts will work together, but I need to be sure. Also if any of these parts have a better alternative, let me know. Anything cheaper that will work for my needs will help as well (Looking to play Civ5, WoW, SC2, and Black Ops - preferably on higher settings but lower would be fine).

Also: I will be needing to buy Windows for this system, would you recommend:

Or

Again, first time making a CPU so I don't really know the difference between the two, besides the fact that the Home Premium is more expensive. With home premium it comes out to over $800, which hurts a bit.

Thanks in advance to any answerers.

Answer
I am doing the exact same exercise right now. Look at my posted questions and responses obtained.

We differ on AMD vs Intel as I am going for a i7 960 chip, which is about the same price as the 6 core AMD. But you will see someone yesterday posted to my question on AMD vs Intel, that the 4 core i7 with hyper-threading is like an 8 core AMD. I posed this question today to a knowledgeable friend and her answer was yes ... with a long list of qualifications. So, I feel the Intel choice is better. That said, you aren't making a glaring mistake either.

I like ASUS motherboards but buying a Gigabyte motherboard because ASUS wasn't available where I went, and Gigabyte have a great reputation, and treated me very well in the past. But again, I cannot argue against your choice.

I have just bought the RAM - deciding on 2Gb SIMMs so if one fails, I don't lose the lot. I am aiming for 6Gb in 2Gb steps (as money allows right now). When built it will have 4Gb with 2Gb to follow as the final upgrade.

My video card will be an ATI Radeon ... I cannot recall the model number but it has 1Gb on board memory, and was explained as being either "top of the middle bracket" or "bottom of the top bracket" of video cards. It costs $A or $US 248. I was told it would do everything I would ever ask for and very importantly, supports 3 monitors (which the GeForce board doesn't). I personally think ATI and NVIDEA are superior to GeForce sorry. I know many will disagree, but that is my 1st amendment right (or would be if I lived in the US).

I have more disk than you, but it is only SATA II so yours is superior to mine and if I could afford it, would go to the SATA 6Gb/s too. Apparently it will add cost to the motherboard - have you confirmed they work together?

Why a 24x DVD? Why not faster? And your power supply is a comfortable rating for what you are doing. There is one thing I wonder if you have missed. The CPU (should) come with a fan of some sort, and thermal paste. The case will have at least 1 fan as will the PS. When you have that baby pumping, you need to move air pretty seriously. Because a fan failure can have rapid consequences, I have a third party (my own design actually) temperature sensor sitting inside the case sampling the ambient temperature. It will independently control another fan and audible warning - on top of the existing safeguards. I will also add another fan to that which comes with the case. Also, if you have a front and rear fan, make sure they don't work against each other. Cooling is a big issue with expensive consequences if one fails - especially if you are on the loo and getting a coffee when one spins down. My stand-alone audible alarm also turns on a centrifugal blower which sucks air out in a serious way (powered by a SLA). Noisy? Yep. Worth it? You only need it to work once. Or think of it as your insurance policy.

Another lack was a power board with high energy varisters (MOV's), one of the expensive boards with a very high joule rating and max current in the 150,000A +up range. And unless you are running the SETI search or protein folding program (any of the BOINC family), turn it off at the power board at night. Also, if you already use these power boards around the place for your TV, etc, the more the merrier. They are effectively all in parallel, so each time you add one (not a cheapie), you are adding to the nett current sinking ability, effectively saving the whole house-load of devices connected to these boards. Oddly, ads never mention this and I realised it after buying another one recently.

You are going to have a damned decent box with that lot.

I will be running Win7 64 bit; upgrade edition (it is upgrading my existing machine in all truth). You do not need to buy the expensive edition you refer to - buy the upgrade for $150ish as after all, it is replacing your existing OS. You can definitely make savings there.

We are doing the same thing - just differently. Not a single thing you suggest (other than thOS) would I seriously disagree with.

Last thing, look at my last few questions in my profile. They are asking very similar questions and I have got some very educational answers that may serve you as they are serving me.
