baby monitor battery operated image

ungirl
I am registering for my baby shower and have no idea what I really need. I will register only for the small things. The big things, like a carseat, nursery furniture, etc. I will just buy myself. I mean things like bibs, medicines to have on hand, what kind of monitor, what kind of thermometer is really best, what kind of mattress pads and sheets, and any other little things I wouldn't think of because this is my first baby! Thanks.
Answer
Every mom finds different things work best for her, so as you go along, you will find that you like this, but don't like that.
I have a Braun ear thermometor. It was a little more expensive, but easy to use and quick.
Sheets and matress pads, brand doesn't really matter...just have a few changes on hand because spit (and other things!) happens. Same with your layette. You will need several sleepers, onesies, light blankets...they suggest approximately ten of each.
Get a good, battery operated swing. Another thing I found very helpful (and still do, with a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old) is a CD player for their room and some soft music. My son STILL likes to hear Kenny G and Pachabel when he's going to sleep.
I personally found that I didn't need a monitor. I woke up with every little sound. But if you sleep more deeply than that or if the nursery is far from you, then get a monitor which is AC adaptable as well as can run on a battery. Brand isn't so important, as they are all approximately the same. An NICU nurse told me that the monitors which go under the mattress are, for the most part, a good way to separate parents from their dollars.
Good luck and congratulations!

my cordless phone just cut out while talking?

Doug
I can no longer talk on the phone outside of the house, and lately the phones will just 'cut out' while talking. Phone doesn't go dead, it just 'cuts out'.
Answer
where is the question in all of that?
how old is the phone or batteries?
what frequency is the phone, 5.8ghz, 2.4ghz, 900mhz, 1.9ghz (DECT)?
do you have other wireless devices that operate in the same frequency as your phone, wifi, wireless cameras, wireless intercom, baby monitor, etc?
if the batteries are over 2 years old i would replace them...
if your phone is 900 Mhz or has a channel button on it, i would replace the phone...
if you have a 2.4 ghz phone and wifi, i would change the channel that the wifi operates on, or replace the phone with a 5.8ghz or DECT phone..
i would place the main base in a centralized location depending on where you want the cordless phones to reach.. up as high as possible..
