Have you ever heard talking through a baby monitor when nobody is in the room?

Esther Bro

I have my neice & nephew with my husband & I due to CPS. They have been through very tramatic experiences: sexual, physical & emotional abuse. I have a baby monitor in one of the bedrooms so I can keep an ear out for things. My niece often struggles in her sleep; crying out "no, don't, please stop" & moaning. Last night her father (who is a good parent) slept over to spend time with the kids. I gave them my sons room; dad slept on the bed my niece and nephew made pillow beds on the floor, they watched a movie & had the door closed. I have the monitor in the next room. Throughout the night I heard muffled sounds, light talking & crying every now & then; but nothing I was worried about I just thought the monitor was picking up the sounds through the wall. But then I heard my nieces voice crying "no daddy please stop don't touch me please daddy no" I. Woke my husband & he went to check on them. I was still listening when he opened the door & everyone was asleep the only noise in the room was the music from the end of the moive. I was so scared I went downstairs to sleep; but before I did I thought maybe it was just the moive & I was just over reacting. So I turned the moive off & turned the monitor back on then asked my husband to let me know if he doesn't hear it anymore. While downstairs maybe after 20 minutes I heard LOUD moaning & screaming, it was the girls voice but it was not her, she was sound asleep. My husband turned the monitor off & we went to sleep. Both of us were terrified & confused. What was that? Why was it her voice? Has anyone ever heard about this happening? And what should I do?

Answer
Monitors can pick up noise from other similar frequency monitors in the neighborhood, once when my daughter was up with a virus my neighbors picked it up on their monitor and thought it was their granddaughter who was spending the night-and they are 3 houses down. They made several trips to her room before they found it was a different baby.
OTOH, my 4 year old will on rare occassions cry ( we all sleep in rooms next to each other and don;t need monitors past the tiny baby phase) at night but be fast asleep. I don't know if its some form of night terror or what, but we usually lay down with him for a while until he seems better. I'd be deeply concerned given the background and let a child who has been abused have her own space, put dad on the couch, at the least.
edit: honestly assuming this is real, I'd not let dad over unsupervised and notify CPS about the development

Do you ever hear other people talking on the baby monitor ?

Answer
Oh my gosh - yes!
There have been many times where I heard my neighbors cordless phone conversations or when my monitor picked up a neighbors baby monitor so I heard just everyday family conversations in their household.
It made me VERY aware of what I was saying in MY house whenever MY baby monitor was on! Who knows what people have heard from MY house!!
