I have offered my baby water monitor lizard crickets, mealworms, pinky mice, and fish but he won't eat anything but the goldfish. I am 16 and I have had this monitor for about three weeks. I ordered him online without my parents permission. They haven't even noticed his presence. I have been keeping him in a 75 gallon terrarium in my room. He has proper lighting and heat. I don't know whats wrong I have always read that water monitors require insects, fish, and rodents.
To the person that called me a he, I'm a girl.....
Answer
Well well well, if it isn't the same little girl who called me some names because I told her she was doing the wrong thing by thinking she could keep one of the largest lizards in the world hidden in her closet. You don't have to worry about what to feed because I can guarantee you that very soon, you will be getting rid of it because you will either realize that you have no business with it or because your parents make you get rid of it. Honestly, I think you're just joking because no one can be this foolish. Even if you're serious, I think you are lieing about the cage. You showed a photo of the enclosure you planned on keeping it in in one of your previous questions and it was a 10 gallon tank, not a 75 gallon tank. There's no way you acquired a 75 gallon aquarium and are keeping it hidden from your parents. And I doubt that you have any idea of how to care for one anyway. Goldfish are one of the worst things you could possibly feed it. And this lizard will be 3 to 4 feet in a year. How are you going to hide it from your parents then?
If anyone thinks I'm being too harsh to this girl, think about how harsh she is being by trying to hide the second heaviest lizard in the world in her closet. This is not an animal that a child should own, especially in these conditions. Now it's going to die a miserable death because she just had to have one. That's what's harsh.

Savannah Monitor lizard questions?

Bonn
I'm 15 and my mom is thinking about letting me get one. I've studied them and understand it takes Time to tame and money to feed their diets as well, but I have a few questions.
What size of cage is good for a baby to start in? What is a good adult sized cage I can think about getting/building? What is the price for frozen pinky mice and how often will it need to be fed these?
Thanks!!!(: oh and one last question is; does sound irritate them and will a whole room outdoors be best to avoid indoor sounds irritating them?
Answer
Babies can be kept in 40 gallon breeder for a couple months but will need an adult cage at 6' x 4' at least but 8' x 4' is better pinkies are not a good diet as babies feed him large crickets super worms and small roaches as a treat you can give him a boiled egg these are good to use when taming as an adult mice don't make a good diet they can be fed mice about once a week but no more insted start a roach colony they are easy to breed
