baby monitor nanny cam image

USMC
i am talking about having a hidden recorder in a building and recording conversations on your property.how legal is doing this?
Answer
It would depend on your jurisdiction.
I would tend to relate it to using a "nanny camera" to monitor a baby sitter. In most jurisdictions the nanny cam recording and a telephone conversation recordings are two different issues.
Double check for your area but, If at least one resident or owner of the building are aware of it you should be fine. If your an employee with no "rights" to the building and your being sneaky you may find yourself in a lot of trouble.

Webcam / nanny cam? I would like to install a web cam that i can use as a nanny cam when i am not in the room
Q. Is there one that can be used even though the PC may be turned off? Preferably, i'd like to monitor the activity via my laptop? Any surveillance gurus out there that can guide in the right direction?
Answer
Do you have a wireless network? I use the Linksys WVC54GC wireless video camera on one of my networks and I'm very happy with it. My only complaint is that it doesn't have night vision like a baby monitor. If you have a wireless network running, by all means use this camera, it's easy to use and you won't need to leave your PC powered up like you said because the camera has its own built-in web server. Plus, you can set up motion detection and only have it record the times when there is motion. You can even have it email you an .AVI video clip of the motion it detected, pretty cool. Should cost you about $110-120 at a BestBuy or CompUSA. If you don't have a wireless network and want to set one up (it's easy) then go with the Linksys WRT54G. If you don't want a WLAN, you have other answers above to review...
