What Is a good Baby Monitor?

I've been looking on amazon for a baby monitor but it seems like all the reviews i read contradict each other. i was hoping someone could compare the experiences they had with baby monitors and talk about which brands they loved or hated

Answer
Hi Pam,

It depends on your budget and what you want from a baby monitor. Basically there are three ways of monitoring; audio, video, or movement sensing. Generally the cheaper baby monitors are just audio ones, and the more expensive options use video. For under $100, I can recommend the Angelcare Baby Movement and Sound Monitor or for a video monitor, the Levana Jena. For higher end baby monitors, the Samsung SEW-3037W and the Levana Astra are both good choices.

baby monitor scare?

my husband and i recently purchased a new home unlike our old home our 8 month olds room is located on a different floor. So we had to use our baby monitor (which was a gift from my baby shower) for the first time. And at about 7 am this morning I was woken by the voice of a woman trying to calm down a crying baby! Needless to say i took off as fast as I could to my baby's room only to find him fast asleep! I then realized one of my neighbors apparently has the same monitor and mine was picking up there conversation. So the question here is i'm in the market for a new monitor cause I don't want to pick up another baby's cries throughout the night or vis versa any suggestions? Are the one's that have the video attachment worth the extra money? Thanks for the help.
No, the neighbors house is not 2 feet away, we do live in town but houses aren't really close together, besides most up to date baby monitors do have a descent range on them.

Answer
I agree with the other posters about switching channels first before buying another one. We have a video monitor and we love it. It gives me a peace of mind being able to watch him. Sometimes there are just plain weird noises coming from the monitor, and I like being able to switch on the video part of the monitor and watch him instead of having to sneak in his room, risking waking him up or making him upset.

But, it was expensive ($100), and we got it as a gift. If you're strapped for money, you can do without it, but it sure is nice to have if your budget allows for it!
