Q. My cousin is only 4days old but due to a family history of deafness in females they are sending her to be checked. All of my aunts on my mums side are deaf and my uncle (the baby's dad) and his wife have been given an appointment for her hearing. (I had one when I was a baby). Anyway I am worried because my aunt said she is showing no signs of hearing yet. I just have a gut feeling that the news is not good.
Anyway my question is is it normal she has shown no signs of hearing yet?
I don't know how I did this but it was posted 3 times! Sorry!

Answer
Most babies show signs of hearing in the womb, actually. This is why they will "jump" or seem to be startled by loud noises after about 20 weeks.
I know, when my baby was born, they did testing on him for his hearing. They taped little "detectors" to his head and were able to monitor his brain activity on a machine when it let out little beeping sounds.
At four days, if she's not showing signs of hearing yet, there may be cause for concern. I hope all goes well though.

When do I hear the babies heartbeat?

Navy wife
I went to an ultrasound appointment today and I am about 6 weeks. Everything looked fine and the Doctor was not concerned with anything. He was actually very pleased with how the baby is progressing since he has been monitoring me every week. I have a history of miscarriages so they have been watching this pregnancy closely. He should that we should be able to hear a heartbeat for my follow-up appointment next week. When should I hear the heartbeat? Will I hear it next week and if not should I worry?
Answer
I was able to hear my baby's heartbeat at 10 weeks...but not everyone can. I know someone who heard their first baby's heartbeat at 8 weeks, but couldn't hear their second till 12 weeks. Don't stress :)
