this may sound a little creepy but im just wondering of it ever happened to anyone else. I was just in the room with my baby and turned off the base for her monitor so i wouldnt wake my husband but the reciever was still on in the bedroom. I was bringing her into the room with me and i could hear a baby crying over the monitor. could it have picked up another baby from someone elses house? this really freaked me out, especially since my baby wasnt crying.

Very normal. That is why I always turn mine off when we don't need it. I don't want any nosy neighbors listening in to our lives. ESPECIALLY since the baby is still in our room :-)
One time I picked up my neighbor's phone conversation on my monitor while she was on her cordless phone. That was really weird. I couldn't shut it off right away because I was nursing. I did get up right away though and turn it off when she started talking about private stuff - I didn't want to be nosy neighbor :-)
So, don't freak out, just choose a different channel and shut it off when you aren't using it.
