What is the best SIDS baby monitor?

Miranda

Answer
I use Angel Care Monitor; you can buy the motion sensor one, when no movement is detected (and that includes breathing) for 20 seconds, the monitor will beep. I like it except the fact the one I have comes with sound sensor too, and it catches random neighbors. I would recommend you get just the motion sensor monitor with no sound sensor, and if you want sound, buy sound monitor separately that has at least 4 channels.(otherwise you might end up like us, hearing some random neighbor's baby crying at 3 in the morning......not fun)

Angelcare monitor _ False alarm?

mommyD

Hi! I am a first time (paraniod) mom>
My baby is 5 months old, we have been using the angelcare monitor with the motion sensor from birth. The last two nights the alarm went off a twice (for not picking up movement), this has NEVER happened before, i got such a fright i jumped up and screemed his name on the way to his cot. When i got there he was breathing. Now im not sure if my baby actually stopped breathing or was it a false alarm? Should i take him to the doc? has anyone else experienced this?

he sleeps on his back arms out to the sides

Answer
I have been through 3 Angel monitors for false alarms. It is SO important that the baby is DIRECTLY on top of the pad or else it can go off. Also, the sensitivity level can be turned up and down depending. Mine just beeped this morning twice because my little man scooches himself to the very top of his crib by morning. It's even scarier for us because our baby WILL NOT sleep on his back to having a serious moro reflex that wakes him unless his arms are bound beneath him. I went two months without virtually ANY sleep before I gave into sleeping him on his tummy with the Angel Monitor and a video monitor while sleeping on the floor in his room. In the directional booklet it says that false alarms are common. Mine have gone off over ten times and every times, he's breathing normally and I really don't think he stopped breathing. I feel for you though-- it is THE WORST feeling in the world.
